The residual stresses in molded plastic parts can be divided into the flow induced residual stresses produced in flowing stages and the thermally induced residual stresses produced in cooling state. Reducing residual stresses in the final parts is one of the goals in recent study. The present study focused on comparing the predicted values for thermal residual stresses in freely and constrained quenched plastic plates with and without free volume theory. As a result the final residual stresses showed the opposite pattern in thickness direction. furthermore by applying free volume theory the predicted residual stress at the center showed about 50% of the values without free volume theory for constrained quenched case.
In this work, we have been concerned with developing an intelligent mold design system for plastic injection molding on the AutoCAD. We have concentrated on building a viable environment, including a mold parts database and a menu-driven user interface. This provides a more interactive and interface for selection of optimal mold-base and mold parts in mold design system. This work presents a method which allows the designer to select the mold parts and mold-base directly within an AutoCAD environment. It can also automatically generate detailed 3D drawings of the mold parts and mold-base. The system shows its potential capability for future enhancement. Since the system is independent of the data, it could easily be extended to other mold-bases and mold parts. In addition, it can be linked to the molding analysis system by creating subtracted 3-D models.
Die steel for plastic molding were used as mold material of automobile parts and electronic component industry. The material of this paper has superior to mechanical properties, such as repair weldability, corrosion resistance and high temperature strength, required mold parts for semitransparent. Laser-induced surface hardening technology is widely adopted to improver fatigue life and wear resistance via localized hardening at the surface of mold parts. The objective of this research work is to investigate on the characteristics of surface hardening of the laser process parameters, such as beam travel speed, laser power and defocsued spot position, for the case of die steel for plastic molding. Lens for surface hardening of large area is plano-convex type with elliptical profile to maintain uniform laser irradiation. According to the experimental results, large size of hardened layer at the surface of die steel for plastic molding was achieved, and microstructure of this layer was lath martensite. Optimal surface status and mechanical property of hardened layer could be obtained at 1095Watt, $0.25{\sim}0.3m/min$, 0mm (focal length: 232mm) for laser power, beam travel speed, and focal position. Where, heat input was $0.793{\times}10^{3}J/cm^2$, and width of hardened layer was 27.58mm.

Background: Some parts of a maxillary fracture-for example, the medial and posterior walls-may remain unreduced because they are unapproachable or hard to deal with. This study aimed to investigate the self-healing process of unreduced maxillary membranous parts of fractures through a longitudinal computed tomography (CT) analysis of cases of unilateral facial bone injuries involving the maxillary sinus walls. Methods: Thirty-two patients who had undergone unilateral facial bone reduction surgery involving the maxillary sinus walls without reduction of the medial and posterior walls were analyzed in this retrospective chart review. Preoperative, immediate postoperative, and 3-month postoperative CT scans were analyzed. The maxillary sinus volume was calculated and improvements in bone continuity and alignment were evaluated. Results: The volume of the traumatized maxillary sinuses increased after surgery, and expanded significantly by 3 months postoperatively (p< 0.05). The significant preoperative volume difference between the normal and traumatized sides (p= 0.024) resolved after surgery (p> 0.05), and this resolution was maintained at 3 months postoperatively (p > 0.05). The unreduced parts of the maxillary bone showed improved alignment and continuity (in 75.0% and 90.6% of cases, respectively), and improvements in bone alignment and bone continuity were found to be correlated using the Pearson chi-square test (p= 0.002). Conclusion: Maxillary wall remodeling through self-healing occurred concomitantly with an increase in sinus volume and simultaneous improvements in bone alignment and continuity. Midfacial surgeons should be aware of the natural course of unreduced fractured medial and posterior maxillary walls in complex maxillary fractures.
Various manufacturing technologies, including over-molding and insert-injection molding, are used to produce hybrid plastics and metals. However, there are disadvantages to these technologies, as they require several steps in manufacturing and are limited to what can be reasonably achieved within the complexities of part geometry. This study aims to determine a practical approach for producing metal/plastic hybrid components by combining plastic injection molding and metal die casting to create a new hybrid metal/plastic molding process. The integrated metal/plastic hybrid injection molding process developed in this study uses the proven method of multi-component technology as a basis to combine plastic injection molding with metal die casting into one integrated process. In this study, the electrical conductivity and ampacity were verified to qualify the new process for the production of parts used in electronic devices. The electrical conductivity was measured, contacting both sides of the test sample with constant pressure, and the resistivity was measured using a micro ohmmeter. Also, the specific conductivity was subsequently calculated from the resistivity and contact surface of the conductor path. The ampacity defines the maximum amount of current a conductive path can carry before sustaining immediate or progressive deterioration. The manufactured hybrid multi-components were loaded with increasing currents, while the temperature was recorded with an infrared camera. To compare the measured infrared images, an electro-thermal simulation was conducted using commercial CAE software to predict the maximum temperature of the power loaded parts. Overall, during the injection molding process, it was demonstrated that multifunctional parts can be produced for electric and electronic applications.
Nowadays the amount of plastic products is increasing in modern industry. Plastic materials are continuously developed to satisfy the mechanical, physical, and chemical properties. The increasing application of plastic parts in automobile and aerospace industries is due to the fact that it can reduce the structural weight and can lessen the environmental contamination. Among many manufacturing technologies for plastic parts, the injection molding process is very attractive because of its low cost and short production time. Through various analyses of resin flow and molding process for the conventional gate and cooling mechanism, a new type of mold was designed which had different gate location and cooling systems. Newly designed ball seat has an excellent performances, i.e. diminished weld-line, residual stress density, higher magnitude less crack propagation and smaller dimensional contractions effect.
Since Outerrace is one of the components of driving shaft for power train of automobile and transmits high torque, high strength and high toughness are necessary so forging process is adopted to manufacture such parts. Therefore, in order to improve strength and toughness, heat treatment is accomplished after plastic deformation(forging). Because Each component of driving shaft is mounted to automobile after a series of forging, machining and heat treatment, in order to evaluate mechanical properties of such components in use, plastic deformation and heat treatment must be considered. So, in this paper, tensile tests are performed with tensile specimens which have passed through a series of upsetting, machining and heat treatment to evaluate mechanical properties of such components.
The application range of injection molded parts is expanding by the development of engineering plastics with good mechanical properties. Plastic gears are specially used as automotive parts due to an excellent performance in the characteristics of a strength vs. weight, and the study of injection molding process of plastic gear using Nylon66 is performed in this study. Filling, packing and cooling analyses were done by using the simulation software like Moldflow, and a mold was designed by following the simulation results. Pin-point gates with three points were taken to satisfy the design guides like a full-shot, and lower clamping force and uniform shrinkage. Characteristics of shrinkage of molded gear and temperature difference between cavity and core sides of a mold were shown.
This paper is concerned with the family of parts that generally feature a central hub with radial protrusions. Radial Extrusion is usually used in order to produce complex parts, which is combined with upsetting and/or forward and backward extrusion. Typical parts that fall into this category include cross pieces for universal joints, key-shaft type parts, tube fittings, and differential gears. In this paper, the forming characteristics of radial extrusion combined with forward extrusion is investigated by comparing the punch and mandrel loads. The design factors during radial extrusion combined with forward extrusion are applied to the simulation to see how much those factors have effect on the forming loads. The rigid-plastic FEM is applied to the simulation.
In this paper, we have been concerned with development of plastic mold design system by using Auto CAD. We provides a interface and interaction for mold designer who can select optimal mold base and mold parts within Auto CAD environment. We use the paramatric design method and an essential elements group forms. This program made for using Visual Lisp, DCL and Visual Basic that could easily get a database which is built to mold base and parts within Auto CAD. We provide 6 types mold base and 35 parts database for designer. In addition, it will be lined to mold cost and not only 2-D but also 3-D models
