In this paper, we propose a ground area detection technique based on region segmentation in the spherical image. We modified the Watershed planar image segmentation method to segment spherical images. After regions are segmented, the ground area is detected by comparing colors and textures of pixels of the assumed ground region with the pixels of other regions. The ground detection technique for planar images cannot be used for spherical images due to the spherical distortion. Considering the spherical distortion, we designed the ground shape detection algorithm to detect the ground area in the spherical images. Our experimental results show that the proposed technique properly detects ground areas both for the flat ground and the obstacle-filled ground environments.
Micro-hole targets are studied to generate energetic protons from laser-thin foil targets by using 2-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. By using a small hole, the maximum energy of the accelerated proton is increased to 4 times higher than that from a simple planar target. The main proton acceleration mechanism of the hole-targets is the electrostatic field created between the fast electrons accelerated by the laser pulse ponderomotive force combined with the vacuum heating and the target rear surface. But in this case, the proton angular distribution shows double-peak shape, which means poor collimation and low current density. By using a small cone-shaped hole, the maximum proton energy is increased 3 times higher than that from a simple planar target. Furthermore, the angular distribution of the accelerated protons shows good collimation.
In this paper a embedded decoupling capacitor design with gap structure will be discussed. A novel structure is modeling and analization by High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). Proposed capacitor have $2m{\times}2m$ in rectangular shape. The film thickness of copper/dielectric film/substrate is respectively 35um/20um/35um. A dielectric layer of BaTiO3/epoxy has the relative permittivity of 25. Compare of the planar decoupling capacitor, capacitance densities of this structure in the range of $55{\mu}F$/mm2 have been obtained with 50um gap while capacitance densities of planar structure $55{\mu}F$/mm2 in the same size. The frequency dependent behavior of capacitors is numerically extracted over a wide frequency bandwidth 500MHz-7GHz. The decoupling capacitor can work at high frequency band increasing the gap size.

Band-notched ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas using frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) are presented. The proposed antennas utilized the band rejection characteristic of typical FSS unit cells. We loaded the FSS unit cells on the same plane of planar UWB antenna. These antennas are designed to reject the interference from the wireless local area network band, 5.15-5.825 GHz in the UWB band, 3.1-10.6 GHz. The measured peak gains of the proposed antennas are more than 2 dBi at both operation edge and center frequencies, and sufficient to apply for commercial purpose. The antennas are small size and planar shape for the purpose of the small mobile application, and enhanced design freedom by using various existing FSS unit cells.
In this paper, PIFA(Planar Inverted F Antenna) which operates in PCS(Personal Communication System) band is designed and characteristics are investigated. Designed PIFA was installed in three types of handsets, folder, bar, slide, and the performance was evaluated. Head and hand phantom were added to make the most similar environment to real condition of mobile phone use, and influences on antenna performance were analyzed. The simulation results confirm radiation patterns are greatly changed and antenna efficiency is decreased by the effect of human body. Performance variation of the mobile handset antenna was observed as changing the angle between mobile handset and head phantom from $0^{\circ}$ to $2^{\circ},\;4^{\circ}$ to confirm the variation caused by the relative position of mobile handset and head phantom. Directivity was decreased gradually as the antenna goes away from head phantom, and showed the trend of increasing efficiency. But in the case of bar type, where the position of antenna is relatively close to head phantom, that trend didn't show. It was confirmed that the shape of handset has a great effect on the performance.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite have attracted significant attention as a new revolutionary light absorber for photovoltaic device due to its remarkable characteristics such as long charge diffusion lengths (100-1000nm), low recombination rate, and high extinction coefficient. Recently, power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cell is above 20% that is approached to crystalline silicon solar cells. Planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells have simple device structure and can be fabricated low temperature process due to absence of mesoporous scaffold that should be annealed over 500 oC. However, in the planar structure, controlling perovskite film qualities such as crystallinity and coverage is important for high performances. Those controlling methods in one-step deposition have been reported such as adding additive, solvent-engineering, using anti-solvent, for pin-hole free perovskite layer to reduce shunting paths connecting between electron transport layer and hole transport layer. Here, we studied the effect of alkali metal halide to control the fabrication process of perovskite film. During the morphology determination step, alkali metal halides can affect film morphologies by intercalating with PbI2 layer and reducing $CH3NH3PbI3{\cdot}DMF$ intermediate phase resulting in needle shape morphology. As types of alkali metal ions, the diverse grain sizes of film were observed due to different crystallization rate depending on the size of alkali metal ions. The pin-hole free perovskite film was obtained with this method, and the resulting perovskite solar cells showed higher performance as > 10% of power conversion efficiency in large size perovskite solar cell as $5{\times}5cm$. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) are analyzed to prove the mechanism of perovskite film formation with alkali metal halides.
Since the publication of the first bone scintiscans in 1962 three decades have elapsed. The bone scan has made great strides during this period, becoming one of the most commonly used nuclear imaging tests. In spite of the progress, however, the specificity of bone scan has remained relatively low. As the result it is a common practice to seek additional information from radiograph, CT scan and MR image, which is euphemistically termed as "image fusion or co-location." The basic reason is the inapplicability of the classical piecemeal analysis to interpreting planar and SPECT bone scans. Such analysis has its base on the observation of elemental features of morphology, which include the size, shape, contour, location, topography and internal architecture. The physiochemical profile may well also be included. Understandably, however, the miniatured images of the planar bone scan cannot provide these features in acceptable detail and the same holds true even with SPECT Images which are but sliced views of the reconstructed planar scans. Fortunately pinhole scanning has the capacity to portray both the morphological and chemical profiles of bone and joint diseases in greater detail through true magnification. The magnitude of pinhole scan resolution is practically comparable to that of radiography as far as gross anatomy is concerned. Thus, we feel strongly that pinhole scanning is a potential breakthrough of the long-lamented low specificity of bone scan. This presentation will discuss the fun-damentals, advantages and disadvantages and the most recent advances of pinhole scanning. It high-lights the actual clinical applications of pinhole scanning in relation to the diagnosis of infective and inflammatory diseases of bone and joint.
The planar type inductors have a good potential for the application of miniaturized low power DC-DC converters. For those high quality application, the reduction of coil loss and also magnetic films which have good high frequency properties are required. Fabricated inductor was consisted of FeTaN/Ti magnetic film and electroplated Cu coil thickness of 100$\mu\textrm{m}$ and $SiO_2$ as a insulating layer. The inductor was designed double rectangular spiral shape for magnetic field highly confining within the device. The measured value of inductance and resistance were 980 nH and 1.7 $\Omega$ at 1 MHz as operating frequency of device. The Q factor is 3.55 at 1 MHz.
In this paper, we have investigated a fiber type active coupler which utilizes the mode coupling between the side polished single mode optical fiber and the active multimode planar waveguide. The proposed device can be used for not only tunable wavelength filter or optical intensity modulator but also a tool for measuring optical properties of guiding material such as refractive index, birefringence, electro-optic coefficient, and thermo-optic coefficient. We gave designed and optimized a coupler structure using the BPM and fabricated the device using thermo-optic polymer as active planar waveguide overlay. The device showed that insertion loss was less then 0.5 dB, extinction ratio was -13 dB at the resonance wavelength, and the wavelength tunablity due to thermo-optic effect was -1.5 nm/$^{\circ}C$. The active coupler using thermo-optic effect can be used as a wavelength tunable filer, an optical intensity modulator and an optical sensor. pulses that are subsequently compressed by a dispersive optical fiber. Experimental results show that $sech^2$ shape pulses with a pulse width of ~14 ps and a time bandwidth product of ~0.34 are successfully generated at 10 GHz repetition rate. In contrast to other methods, such as higher order soliton compression, this approach does not depend on the optical power and thus shows promise for application to low-power lasers.
In this study, teaching-learning based optimization (TLBO) is improved by incorporating model of multiple teachers, adaptive teaching factor, self-motivated learning, and learning through tutorial. Modified TLBO (MTLBO) is applied for simultaneous topology, shape, and size optimization of space and planar trusses to study its effectiveness. All the benchmark problems are subjected to stress, displacement, and kinematic stability constraints while design variables are discrete and continuous. Analyses of unacceptable and singular topologies are prohibited by seeing element connectivity through Grubler's criterion and the positive definiteness. Performance of MTLBO is compared to TLBO and state-of-the-art algorithms available in literature, such as a genetic algorithm (GA), improved GA, force method and GA, ant colony optimization, adaptive multi-population differential evolution, a firefly algorithm, group search optimization (GSO), improved GSO, and intelligent garbage can decision-making model evolution algorithm. It is observed that MTLBO has performed better or found nearly the same optimum solutions.
