Periodically shaped pillar-arrays and hole-arrays were fabricated on a Si wafer. Geometric features are similar in a periodic length of 4 ${\mu}m$ and a depth of 2 ${\mu}m$. For the hole-array patterns, positive PR processes were performed. UV exposed PR patterns were removed during a developing process to leave shapes of inversely replicated from a glass photomask. Meanwhile, negative PR processes were taken for the pillar-array patterns. UV exposed PR patterns were remained on a Si substrate having a same feature of patterns of a glass photomask. For an electrical aspect, a pillar structure has a short carrier-collection length resulting in the improved open-circuit voltage of 609 mV from 587 mV of a planar device. An improved performance may be achieved to reduce recombination loss along the patterning surface.

Nonplanar surface geometries of components are frequently encountered in real ultrasonic inspection situations. Use of rigid array transducers can lead to beam defocusing and reduction of defect image quality due to the mismatch between the planar array and the changing surface. When a flexible array is used to fit the complex surface profile, the locations of array elements should be known to compute the delay time necessary for adaptive heam focusing. An alternative method is to employ the time reversal focusing technique that does not require a prior knowledge about the properties and structures of the specimen and the transducer. In this paper, a time reversal method is applied to simulate beam focusing of flexible arrays and imaging of point-like defects contained in specimens with nonplanar surface geometry. Quantitative comparisons are made for the performance of a number of array techniques in terms of the ability to focus and image three point-like reflectors positioned at regular intervals. The sinusoidal profile array studied here exhibits almost the same image quality as the flat, reference case.

This paper describes the design and analysis of five-element planar array antenna of an anti-jamming satellite navigation system. We propose a design of multi-layer patch antenna for Global Positioning System(GPS) $L_1/L_2$ dual bands. The proposed antenna has two ports feeding network with a hybrid chip coupler for a broad bandwidth with Right-Handed Circular Polarization(RHCP). The measurement results show the bore-sight gains of 1.10 dBic($L_1$) and 0.37 dBic($L_2$) for the center element. The bore-sight gains of an edge element are 0.99 dBic($L_1$) and -0.57 dBic($L_2$). At a fixed elevation angle of $30^{\circ}$, antennas show average gains of -2.08 dBic ($L_1$) and -5.33 dBic($L_2$) for the center element, and average gains of -0.40 dBic($L_1$) and -2.09 dBic($L_2$) for the edge elements. The results demonstrate that the proposed array antenna is suitable for anti-jamming applications.

In this paper, we described the design of Ka-band planar active phased array antenna which is applicable for small RADAR for airborne and seeker of guided missile. The antenna consists of about 1000 array radiating elements and is designed to be within 200mm diameter. We optimized the spacing of radiating elements to allow beem steering above ${\pm}55$ degrees of Field of view, and analyzed the performance of antenna. We confirmed that the Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) of the antenna can be 94.22 dBm and receive G/T can be 1.68 dB/k through the designs of RF components and the verification of RF budget. The TX output of TR Module is designed to be over 1.3W for EIRP, and Receive noise figure of TR Module is designed to be less than 5dB for G/T.
In this paper, the error tolerance of each array element to ensure a given specified error level for the array pattern is analyzed using the Genetic Algorithm. In the conventional deterministic method for synthesis of sonar way problems the computational resource required in the simulation grows rapidly as the number of way elements increases. To alleviate this numerical inefficiency, the Monte-Carlo method may be considered as an alternative technique for array syntheses. However, it is difficult to apply the method to the synthesis of array patterns because of its relatively lower accuracy in spite of moderate computational complexity. A new analysis method for estimating error tolerances in sonar arrays is Proposed since the Genetic Algorithm has significant promise to efficiently solve way synthesis problems. Through several numerical tests in linear and planar arrays, it is demonstrated that the proposed method can provide accurate results for error tolerances of sonar arrays.

A dual-band dual-polarized microstrip antenna array for an advanced multi-function radio function concept (AMRFC) radar application operating at S and X-bands is proposed. Two stacked planar arrays with three different thin substrates (RT/Duroid 5880 substrates with $\varepsilon_r$=2.2 and three different thicknesses of 0.253 mm, 0.508 mm and 0.762 mm) are integrated to provide simultaneous operation at S band (3~3.3 GHz) and X band (9~11 GHz). To allow similar scan ranges for both bands, the S-band elements are selected as perforated patches to enable the placement of the X-band elements within them. Square patches are used as the radiating elements for the X-band. Good agreement exists between the simulated and the measured results. The measured impedance bandwidth (VSWR$\leq$2) of the prototype array reaches 9.5 % and 25 % for the S- and X-bands, respectively. The measured isolation between the two orthogonal polarizations for both bands is better than 15 dB. The measured cross-polarization level is ${\leq}-21$ dB for the S-band and ${\leq}-20$ dB for the X-band.

The phased array antenna has an advantage enabling rapid beam aim without the mechanical rotation of the antenna, because it arranges multiple elements in a linear or planer (grid or circular) and electronically controls the phase for each element. The planar array antenna is generally used a grid array and a circular array, and the circular form has the higher resolution comparing to the grid form due to the its structural characteristics. However, a concentric circular array (CCA) or a concentric ring array (CRA) with multiple circular arrays which each has different radius is used in the limited area, because the entire radius should be increased for the circular array with a number of elements. In this paper, we introduce the angle-of-arrival (AOA) estimator for an adaptive beamforming satellite system based on CRA and provide the simulation results for performance evaluation. In addition, simulation results are compared and analyzed to the case for the circular array antenna.

This paper proposes a planar Log-Periodic Dipole Array(LPDA) antenna with light-weight supporting structure for installing on an aircraft. The proposed antenna is designed by applying a planar skeleton supporting structure that has light-weight for an aircraft and is capable of withstanding structural vibration. The material of the planar skeleton supporting structure is a Polyether ether ketone(Peek) which has excellent characteristics on strength and temperature. The proposed antenna is fabricated by attaching the radiating elements of the LPDA on both sides of the supporting structure. The changed input impedance due to the dielectric material of the supporting structure was compensated for by controlling the distance and length of several radiating elements. The 10-dB return loss bandwidths of the designed planar LPDA antenna with light-weight supporting structure are obtained as 0.4~3.1 GHz(7.3:1) in the simulation and 0.41~3.5 GHz(8.2:1) in the measurement. The average gains in 0.5~3 GHz band are 6.77 dBi in the simulation and 6.55 dBi in the measurement. Therefore, we confirm that the designed antenna is appropriate to be installed on an aircraft due to its light-weight structure and wideband directional radiation characteristics.

In this paper, we present the performance and the experimental results of the adaptive beamformer in the radar system with the planar active array. The study of the adaptive beamformer has already been performed in several literatures, but it is difficult to find the results or examples those are implemented in the actual radar system. Here we employ the adaptive beamformer to the practical radar system with subarray architecture. The performance of beamformer will be demonstrated by modeling and simulation and finally the far-field experimental results.

In this paper, the authors present a new design for a dual-band metamaterial(MTM) absorber that utilizes resonant-magnetic inclusion of a split-ring resonator(SRR). The proposed MTM unit cell is constructed by two open complementary split-ring resonators(OCSRRs) and an SRR arrangement. To avoid the need for metallic back plate a planar array of SRRs for resonant-magnetic inclusion is placed facing toward the incident wave propagation direction. Each unit cell is printed on the two sides of a FR-4 substrate. A prototype absorber was fabricated with a planar array of $39{\times}39$ unit cells, and measured. The proposed backplane-less absorber can be used for microwave applications.
