This paper presents a depth boundary sharpening method for improved view synthesis in 3D video. In depth coding, distortion occurs around object boundaries, degrading the quality of synthesized images. In order to encounter this problem, the proposed method estimates an edge map for each frame to filter only the boundary regions. In particular, a window-based filter is employed to choose the most reliable pixel as the replacement considering three factors: frequency, similarity and closeness. The proposed method was implemented as post-processing of the deblocking filter in JMVC 8.3.Compared to the conventional methods, the proposed method generated 0.49 dB PSNR increase and 16.58% bitrate decrease on average. The improved portions were subjectively confirmed as well.
In video coding, motion estimation is a process to estimate the pixel of the current frame from the reference frame, which affects directly the predictive quality and the encoding time. This paper is related to AHHS(Adaptive Hierarchical Hexagon Search) using spatio-temporal motion activity for fast motion estimation. The proposed method defines the spatio-temporal motion activity of the current macroblock using the motion vectors of its spatio-temporally adjacent macroblocks, and then conventional AHS(Adaptive Hexagon Search) is performed if the spatio-temporal motion activity is lower, otherwise, hierarchical hexagon search is performed on a multi-layered hierarchical space constructed by multiple sub-images with low frequency in wavelet transform. In the paper, based on computer simulation results for multiple video sequences with different motion characteristics, the performance of the proposed method was analysed and assessed in terms of the predictive quality and the computational time. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is both suitable for (quasi-) stationary and large motion searches. The proposed method could keep the merit of the adaptive hexagon search capable of fast estimating motion vectors and also adaptively reduce the local minima occurred in the video sequences with higher spatio-temporal motion activity.

To evaluate the performance of the digital radiography(DR) system developed in our group, the modulation transfer function(MTF) was measured and compared with that of an analog X- ray detector, film/screen system. The DR system has an amorphous selenium(a-Se) layer vacuum-evaporated on a TFT flat panel detector. The speed class 400 film/screen (Fuji) system has been being used in the clinical field as analog X-ray detectors. Both the square wave and slit method were used to evaluate their MTF. The square method was applied to both film/screen and the DR system. The slit method, however, was applied to only DR system. The full-width half maximum resolution of film/screen was 357${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$(1.4 lp/mm at 50% spatial frequency), and the resolution of DR was limited to 200${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$(2.5 lp/mm at 30%). These results indicate the measured resolution limitations approximate to the pixel pitch, 139 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of TFT. The MTF of DR is higher than that of film/screen by the factor of 1.785. It is proved that our a-Se based DR system has potential usefulness in the clinical field.
We proposed a digital watermarking method that it is possible to identify the copyright because the watermark is detected in the first print-scan and to protect a forgery because the watermark is not detected in the second print-scan. The proposed algorithm uses LPM and DFT transform for the robustness to the distortion of pixel value and geometrical distortion. This methods could improve watermark detection performance and image quality by selecting maximum sampling radius in LPM transform. After analyzing the characteristics of print-scan process, we inserted the watermark in the experimentally selected frequency bands that survives robustly to the first print-scan and is not detected in the second print-scan, using the characteristic of relatively large distortion in high frequency bands of DFT As the experimental result, the original proof is possible because average similarity degree 5.13 is more than the critical value 4.0 in the first print-scan. And the detection of forgery image is also possible because average similarity degree 2.76 is less than the critical value 4.0 in the second print-scan.

Cross-interferometic synthetic aperture radar (CInSAR) technique from ERS-2 and Envisat images is capable of generating submeter-accuracy digital elevation model (DEM). However, it is very difficult to produce high-quality CInSAR-derived DEM due to the difference in the azimuth and range pixel size between ERS-2 and Envisat images as well as the small height ambiguity of CInSAR interferogram. In this study, we have proposed an efficient method to overcome the problems, produced a high-quality DEM over northern Alaska, and compared the CInSAR-derived DEM with the national elevation dataset (NED) DEM from U.S. Geological Survey. In the proposed method, azimuth common band filtering is applied in the radar raw data processing to mitigate the mis-registation due to the difference in the azimuth and range pixel size, and differential SAR interferogram (DInSAR) is used for reducing the unwrapping error occurred by the high fringe rate of CInSAR interferogram. Using the CInSAR DEM, we have identified and corrected man-made artifacts in the NED DEM. The wave number analysis further confirms that the CInSAR DEM has valid Signal in the high frequency of more than 0.08 radians/m (about 40m) while the NED DEM does not. Our results indicate that the CInSAR DEM is superior to the NED DEM in terms of both height precision and ground resolution.
This study was purpose to compare image quality of Indirect digital radiography (IDR) system by using the International electro-technical commission standard(IEC 62220-1) which were applied to IEC in medical imaging. To evaluation the analysis of Modulation transfer function(MTF) measurements edge device each angle by using edge method. In this study, Aero (Konica, Japan) which is Indirect flat panel detector(FPD) was used, the size of image receptor matrix $1994{\times}2430$ which performed 12bit processing and pixel pitch is $175{\mu}m$. In IEC standard method were applied to each angle were compared. The results of shown as LSF at $2.0^{\circ}$ and $3.0^{\circ}$ angeles. Shape is constant and shows smooth shape. The amount of data seemed reasonable and 2.19 cycles/mm and 2.01 cycles/mm at a spatial frequency of $2.0^{\circ}$ and $3.0^{\circ}$ at an MTF value of 0.1. At an MTF value of 0.5, the spatial frequencies were $2.0^{\circ}$ and 1.11 cycles/mm and 0.93 cycles/mm at an angle of $3.0^{\circ}$. This study were to evaluate MTF by setting the each $2{\sim}3^{\circ}$ each angle and to suggest the quantitative methods of measuring by using IEC.
Recently, research using unstructured data such as images and videos has been actively conducted in various fields. Edge detection is one of the most useful image enhancement techniques to improve the quality of the image process. However, it is very difficult to perform edge detection in noise images because the edges and noise having high frequency components. This paper uses a linear model and standard deviation as an effective edge detection method for noise images. The edge is detected by the difference between the standard deviation of the pixels included in the pixel block and the standard deviation of the residual obtained by fitting the linear model. The results of edge detection are compared with the results of the Sobel edge detector. In the original image, the Sobel edge detection result and the proposed edge detection result are similar. Proposed method was confirmed that the edge with reduced noise was detected in the various levels of noise images.
Tc-99m-MIBI (Sestamibi) myocardial SPECT along with TI-201 tomographic Imaging has demonstrated wide application and high image quality sufficient for the diagnosis of myocardial perfusion defect, which consequently reflects regional myocardial blood flow. The qualitative values of myocardial SPECT with Tc-99m-MIBI as well ds the quantitative cases depend in some degree on the reconstruction techniques of multiple projections. Filtered backprojection (FBP) Is the common standard method for reconstruction rather than the complicated and time-consuming arithmetic methods. In FBP it is known that the distribution of radioactivity in reconstructed transverse slices varies with the selected litter parameters such as cutoff frequencies and order (Butterworth case) The cutoff frequencies used in clinicAl practice partially remove and decrease the true radioactive distribution and alter the pixel counts, which lead to underestimation of true counts in specific myocardial regions. In this study, we have investigated the effect of cutoff frequencies of reconstruction filter on the artifactually induced perfusion defects, which are often demonstrated near inferior and/or inferoseptal cardiac walls due to the intense hepatic uptake of Tc-99m-MIBI. A computerized method for Identifying the relative degree of artifactual perfusion defect and for comparing those degrees along with the relative amount of hepatic uptake to myocardium was developed and patient images were studied to observe the quantitative degree of underestimation of myocardial perfusion, and to propose some reasonable threshold of cutoff frequency in the diagnosis of perfusion defect quantitatively. We concluded that from the quantitative viewpoint cutoff frequencies may be used as high as possible with the sacrifice of homogeneity of image quality, and those frequencies lower than the common 0.3 Wyquist frequency would reveal severe degradation of radioactive distribution near inferior and/or inferoseptal myocardium when applying Butterworth or low pass filter.
In current HEVC, prediction pixels are finally calculated by linear-function interpolation on two reference pixels. It is hard to expect good performance on the case of occurring large difference between two reference pixels. This paper decides more accurate prediction pixel values than current HEVC using linear function. While existing prediction process only uses two reference pixels, proposed method uses DCT-IF. DCT-IF analyses frequency characteristics of more than two reference pixels in frequency domain. And proposed method calculates prediction value adaptively by using linear-function, DCT-IF and cubic-function to decide more accurate interpolation value than to only use linear function. Cubic-function has a steep slope than linear-function. So, using cubic-function is utilized on edge in prediction unit. The complexity of encoder and decoder in HM6.0 has increased 3% and 1%, respectively. BD-rate has decreased 0.4% in luma signal Y, 0.3% in chroma signal U and 0.3% in chroma signal V in average. Through this experiment, proposed adaptive intra prediction method using DCT-IF and cubic-function shows increased performance than HM6.0.
