해수환경중 부식피로균열 발생수명 평가에 관한 연구 (Research for the Evaluation of Corrosion Fatigue Crack Initiation Life)

  • With regard to corrosion fatigue crack initiation life (Nc), it has been treated ambiguously for the member which doesn't have stress concentration area. In this research, in order to clarify the corrosion fatigue crack initiation life (Nc), corrosion fatigue tests were carried out. Reasonable and universal corrosion fatigue crack initiation life (Nc) was defined and corrosion fatigue crack initiation/propagation model was suggested also. As the fatigue crack which emanates from the pit is usually small, accordingly it is treated as a small crack. In addition, the observation of the corrosion fatigue fracture surfaces using SEM was conducted. And the fracture mechanics analysis using an intrinsic crack model was conducted for the treatment of the small crack. Finally, the followings were obtained. When there is no clear stress concentration point which seems to fall into a corrosion fatigue crack initiation life, the significance of the definition and suggestion of the moment of the reasonable and universal corrosion fatigue crack initiation life (Nc), at which the fatigue crack propagation rate becomes faster than the corrosion pit growth rate so that the fatigue crack initiates from the pit and propagates in earnest, has been clarified.

  • Aluminum anode of marine growth prevention system for ship is installed in seachest or sea water strainer. The Al anode is connected to a control panel that feeds a current to the anode. The dissolved ions produced by the anode are transferred in sea water, spreads through the sea water pipe system and creates a protective film in the pipelines. Thereby, corrosion in pipeline system significantly is reduced. In application on condition as a steel ship, the big accident can be caused by the corrosion. Accordingly, in this research, we evaluated influence of applied current and flow velocity on electrochemical characteristics of Al anode for marine growth prevention system (MGPS). Based on the results of the erosion-cavitation experiments, cavitation rate increased greatly until 120 min. of the experimental time and decreased a little at the point of 180 min. where pit grew and merging occurred but showed a tendency of steadily increasing consumption rates. Based on the results of the Tafel analysis, compared to static states, corrosion current densities show a rapidly increasing tendency when flow occurred.

  • The undoped-InSe and Sn-doped InSe single crystals were grown by vertical Bridgman method and their properties were invesigated. These crystals were obtained by lowering the quartz ampoule for growth in the furnace and growth rate at optimum condition is 0.4mm/hr. The orientations and the crystallinites of these crystals were identified by X-ray diffraction(XRD), double crystal rocking curve(DCRC) and etch-pit density(EPD) measurements. From the Raman spectrum at room temperature, TO, LO modes together with their overtones and combinations were observed. Optical properties were investigated by photoluminescence at 12K and direct band gap of these crystals obtained from optical absorption spectrum. Compared with undoped-lnSe, electrical properties of Sn-doped InSe were increased and the electrical conductivity type were n-type. But electrical properties along growth direction of crystals and radial direction of wafer showed nearly uniform distribution.

軟鋼의 高溫 表面渡勞균열 成長擧動에 관한 硏究 (A Study on Propagation Behavior of Surface-Fatigue-Crack in the Mild Steel at Elevated Temperatures)

  • Fatigue tests by axial loading (R=0.1) were carried out to investigate fatigue crack growth properties of small surface cracks in mild steel at room temperature, 250.deg. C and 400.deg. C, by using flat specimens with a small artificial pit. All the data of the fatigue crack growth rate obtained in the present tests are determined as a function of the stress intensity factor range, so that the applicability of liner fracture mechanics to the fatigue crack growth of surface cracks at elevated temperatures is investigated and discussed in comparison with the data of type 304 stainless steel at room temperature and elevated temperature. The obtained results are as follows: 1) Relations of both surface fatigue crack length and its depth to cycle ratio fall within a narrow scatter band in spite of different stress levels. 2) The .DELTA. .sigma. .root. .pi. a-da/dN relation of surface fatigue crack growth at room temperature is independent of the stress level and can be plotted as a straight line at log-log diagram, but the relation at 400.deg. C depends partly on the stress level. 3) Relations of the fatigue crack growth into depth d(2b)/dN and is stress intensity factor range .DELTA. $K_{I}$, accounted for the aspect ratio variation, fall within a narrow scatter band for wide range of the applied stress levels. And .DELTA. $K_{I}$E-d(2b)/dN relations of mild steel at different stress level coincide relatively well with the data of type 304 stainless steel. 4) The value of aspect ratio obtained by a beach mark method and a temper coloring method approaches about 0.9 in common with crack growth and it is independent of stress level and temperatures. 5) The equi-crack length curve is parallel to S-N$_{f}$ curve at elevated temperatures.s.s.s.

  • Interest in polymer electrolyte fuel cell is growing to replace fossil fuels. In particular, in order to reduce the cost and volume of the fuel cell, research on a metallic bipolar plate is being actively conducted. In this research, investigated the effects of temperature and chloride concentration on the electrochemical characteristics and damage behavior of 316L stainless steel in an accelerated solution simulating the cathodic operating condition of PEMFC(Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell). As a result of the experiments, the corrosion current density, damage size, and surface roughness increased as the temperature and chloride concentration increased. In particular, the temperature had a significant effect on the stability of the oxide film of 316L stainless steel. In addition, it was described that the growth of the pit was affected by the chloride concentration rather than the temperature. As a result of calculating the corrosion tendency to compare the pitting corrosion rate and the uniform corrosion rate, the uniform corrosion tendency became larger as the temperature increased. And the effects of chloride concentration on corrosion tendency was different according to temperature.

  • Biosynthesis and secretion of anterior pituitary hormones are under the control of specific hypothalamic stimulatory and inhibitory factors. Among them, Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH) is the major stimulator of pituitary somatotrophs activating GH gene expression and secretion. Human GHRH is a polypeptide of 44 amino acids initially isolated from pancreatic tumors, and the gene for the hypothalamic form of GHRH is organized into 5 exons spanning over 10 kilobases (kb) on genomic DNA and encodes a messenger RNA of 700-750 nucleotides. Several neuropeptides classically associated with the hypothalamus have been found in the extrahypothalamic regions, suggesting the existence of novel sources, targets and functions. GHRH-like immunoreactivity has been found in several peripheral sites, including placenta, testis, and ovary, indicating that GHRH may also have regulatory roles in peripheral reproductive organs. Furthermore, higher molecular weight forms of the GHRH transcripts were identified from these organs (1.75 kb in testis; 1.75 and >3 kb in ovary). These tissue-specific expression of GHRH gene suggest the existence of unique regulatory mechanism of GHRH expression and function in these organs. In fact, placenta-specific and testis-specific promoters for GHRH transcripts which are located in about 10 kb upstream region of hypothalamic promoter were reported. The use of unique promoters in extrahypothalamic sites could be refered in a different control of GHRH gene and different functions of the translated products in these tissues. Somatotrophs and lactotrophs have been thought to be derived from a common bipotential progenitor, the somatolactotrophs, which give origins to either phenotypes. Although the precise mechanism responsible for the lactotroph differentiation in the anterior pituitary gland has not been yet clalified, there are several candidators for the generation of lactotrophs. In human, the presence of GHRH peptides with different size from authentic hypothalamic form in the normal anterior pituitary and several types of adenoma were demonstrated. Recently our group found the existence of immunoreactive GHRH and its transcript from the normal rat anterior pituitary (gonadotroph> somatotroph> lactotroph), and the GHRH treatment evoked the increased proliferation rate of anterior pituitary cells in vitro. The transgenic mouse models clearly shown that GHRH or NGF overexpression by anterior pituitary cells induced development of pituitary hyperplasia and adenomas particularly GH-oma and prolactinoma. Taken together, we hypothesize that the pituitary GHRH could serve not only as a modulator of hormone secretion but as a paracrine or autocrine regulator of anterior pituitary cell proliferation and differentiation. Interestingly enough, the expression of Pit-1 homeobox gene (the POU class transcription factor) was confined to somatotrophs, lactotrophs and somatolactotrophs in which GHRH receptors are expressed commonly. Concerning the mechanism of somatolactotroph and lactotroph differentiation in the anterior pituitary, we have focused following two possibilities; (1) changes in the relative levels or interactions of both hypothalamic and intrapituitary factors such as dopamine, VIP, somatostatin, NGF and GHRH; (2) alterations of GHRH-GHRH receptor signaling and Pit-1 activity may be the cause of lactotroph differentiation or pituitary hyperplasia and adenoma formation. Extensive further studies will be necessary to solve these complicated questions.

Floating Zone법에 의한 Mn-Zn Ferrite 단결정성장에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Crystal Growing of Mn-Zn Ferrite Single Crystals by Floating Zone Method)

  • Soft Ferrites 가운데 대표적인 자성재료로써 최근에 개발된 Mn-Zn Ferrite는 높은 초기투자율과 포화자속밀도, 낮은 손실계수를 갖고 있으며 또한, 단결정으로써의 기계적 특성이 우수하며 VTR Head의 소재로 사용되는 중요한 전자부품이다. melt를 수용하는 도가니를 사용치 않아 결정으로의 불순물 침입이 없으며 halogen lamp로부터 방출된 적외선을 열원으로 하여 한 곳에 초점을 이루어 온도구배를 크게 유지하여 결정성장을 이루는 Floating Zone(FZ)법에 의해 Ar 및 $O_2$혼합가스 분위기 하에서 직경 8mm의 Mn-Zn Ferrite 단결정을 육성하였다. 성장 중 용융대에서의 최고온도는 $1650^{\circ}C$ 온도를 유지하였고 결정성장 속도는 10mm/hr, 회전속도는 20 rpm 이었으며 성장방위를 확인하기 위해 Laue 분석 및 XRD, TEM을 이용, 결정의 상등을 분석하였으며 화학적인 etching을 하여 광학현미경을 통해 etch pits 형상을 관찰하였다. 그리고 양질의 결정을 얻기 위해 원료봉 직경에 따른 결정화 속도와 적정한 melt직경과 길이에 대한 상관관계를 찾아내었고 또한 성장계면의 양상에 대해 고찰하였다.

홍콩의 채석장 식생복원공법에 관한 분석 (Analysis on the Quarry Restoration Methods in Hong Kong)

  • The agency which is responsible for work related to the restoration of vegetation on the quarry in Hong Kong is the Geotechnical Engineering Office of Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD). CEDD's environmental management system was certified as ISO 14001 : 2004 in 2006 and diverse instructions and technical documents about the restoration of the quarry were published and used for the performance of work and the implementation of the project. The restoration of the quarry is being carried out to respond to short-term and long-term goals. The general instructions for the restoration of vegetation says that a plant, when selected, should be self-sustainable with minimum maintenance required, have a high growth and survival rate, be tall enough to cover the rock slope faces, and preferably produce colourful flowers. These instructions prescribe the vegetation introduction technology, planting seasons, structural material of the vegetation works, maintenance and management, tree nursery operation, means of water supply, etc. This report introduced the outline of work on restoring vegetation carried out at Anderson Road, Shek O, Lam Tei, Turret Hill, Lamma, all large-sized quarries. In addition, it additzed Anderson Road's master plan. It is hoped that the Hong Kong examples so introduced are referred to in terms of institutional and technical considerations related to the nation's project for restoring quarries.

우리나라 중부지방 돈사의 구조 및 환경실태조사 (Field Survey of Structural and Environmental Characteristics of Pig Houses in the Central Provinces in Korea)

  • The structural and environmental characteristics of typical pig houses in different growth phases were surveyed and analyzed. Based on the data for thirty six selected farms in four provinces, Gyonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Choongnam, and Chonbook, in Central Korea, the goal is to eventually establish standard pig houses of sow and litter, nursery pigs, and growing-finishing pigs. The survey included farm scale, production specialization, structural dimensions of the houses and their ventilation systems, cooling and heating systems, and floor and pit systems related to manure collection. The survey showed 90∼99% of growing-finishing curtain installation rate was lower by 10∼20%. The sidewall curtain system, although popular, is not well insulated which leads to excessive heating costs in winter. Regarding flooring and manure collection system of the house, there was quite a lot variability among provinces, with 30∼80% of the houses installing scraper systems with concrete-slat floors in comparison with 30∼60% using a slurry system. Gangwon-do and Choongbook Chungwoo-goon are the predominant regions that installed a scraper system. A general trend toward enlargement and enclosure of pig houses for all growth phases was gaining popularity in most regions in recent years. A steady shift to three site production from a lumped system was also observed to prevent a disease transfer. The structural design of a standard pig house with its environmental control systems including ventilation and heating/cooling system was suggested for further validation study. In-depth analysis of the survey data is presented in the Results and Discussing section.

화학적 습식 에칭을 통한 AlN와 GaN의 결함 및 표면 특성 분석 (Investigation of defects and surface polarity in AlN and GaN using wet chemical etching technique)

  • 화학적 습식 에칭을 통해 AlN와 GaN의 결함 및 표면 특성을 분석했다. 화학적 습식 에칭은 단결정의 결함을 선택적으로 에칭하기 때문에 결정의 품질을 평가하는 좋은 방법으로 주목 받고 있다. AlN와 GaN의 단결정은 NaOH/KOH 용융액을 이용하여 에칭을 했으며, 에칭 후 표면 특성을 알아보기 위해 주사전자현미경(SEM)과 원자힘 현미경(AFM)을 촬영했다. 에치 핏의 깊이를 측정하여 표면에 따른 에칭 속도를 계산했다. 그 결과 AlN와 GaN 표면에는 두 개의 다른 형태에 에치 핏이 형성 되었다. (0001)면의 metal-face(Al, Ga)는 육각 추를 뒤집어 놓은 형태를 갖는 반면 N-face는 육각형 형태의 소구 모양(hillock structure)을 하고 있었다. 에칭 속도는 N-face가 metal-face(Al, Ga)보다 각 각 약 109배(AlN)와 5배 정도 빨랐다. 에칭이 진행되는 동안 에치 핏은 일정한 크기로 증가하다 서로 이웃한 에치 핏들과 합쳐지는 것으로 보여졌다. 또한 AlN와 GaN의 에칭 공정을 화학적 메커니즘을 통해 알아 보았는데, 수산화 이온($OH^-$)과 질소의 dangling bond에 영향을 받아 metal-face(Al, Ga)와 N-face가 선택적으로 에칭되는 것으로 추론되었다.
