  • The zoeal development of the pilumnid crab, Pilumnus minutus De Haan, 1835 consisted of 4 zoeal stages. The duration of the zoeal stages was at least 15 days at $25^{\circ}C$. The morphology of the zoeal stage is described in detail, and comparisons are made with the known larvae of other species of the family pilumnidae. The Pilumnus minutus zoea strongly resembles zoeae of other species of the genus Pilumnus in the mouthpart setation and the carapace spines, but shows some differences in the abodominal lateral knobs. the Pilumnus minutus zoea has some affinities with the Parapilumnus trispinosus zoea by having the abodominal lateral knobs on somites 2, 3, 4 and 5.

  • We obtained four zoeal stages of Harrovia japonica from laboratory-hatched material. They are described, illustrated in detail, and compared with those of other known species in the family Pilumnidae. The general zoeal morphology of H. japonica coincides well with those of other known species of the Eumedoninae (excluding Echinoecus pentagonus) and Pilumnus minutus of the Pilumninae. In order to facilitate the study of planktoncollected material, we provide a key for the identification of seven known zoeae of the Eumedoninae from the IndoPacific.

  • Ovigerous crab of Echinoecus nipponicus of subfamily Eumedoninae in Pilumnidae was collected from Seogwipo, Jejudo and hatched in the laboratory. The first zoeal stage of E. nipponicus is reported for the first time in the world and its digital image of live zoeas is provided. The first zoea of E. nipponicus has yellowish red chromatophores which occurring behind eyes, on dorsal spine and on anterior margin of telson, reddish brown chromatophores on abdominal somites 2-5 ventrally, dorsal, rostral, and lateral spines shorter than carapace length, three aesthetascs and two setae on the antennule, two medial setae on the antennal exopod, lateral processes on the abdominal somites 2, 3, and two lateral spine and one dorsomedial spine on the telson.

  • Two pilumnid species, Echinoecus nipponicus and Zehntneriana amakusae, are described and illustrated from Jejudo Island, southern Korea. These species are recorded for the first time in Korea, and Z. amakusae is the sole representative of the subfamily Rhizopinae of the family Pilumnidae.
