  • Electric arc furnace steelmaking dust has various physicochemical properties as volatile components generated in the melting process of steel scraps in an electric arc furnace, which is captured in oxide form as fine powder by reacting with oxygen in the air. In order to efficiently recycle these electric arc furnace dust, a kinetic basic experiment and a pilot production test were carried out in parallel. As a result, it was found that the electric arc furnace dust contain a large amount of Cl and alkali components, thus it was expected that the compounds have a great adverse effect on the actual operation for the recycling. It was confirmed that the volatilization behavior was progressing actively at $1100^{\circ}C$ and the electric arc furnace dust was melted at $1250^{\circ}C$. These results are the same as a result of pilot test for the formation behavior of zinc oxide and reduced iron. These results should be useful as basic data for designing the recycling plant of the electric arc furnace dust and establishing the operating conditions.

  • The objective of this project is to conduct an underwater survey. The primary goal is to develop a device that can achieve the desired output under test conditions. For this reason, certain practical considerations must be taken into account, and the implementation is then developed to be carried out to obtain stable performance with the available hardware based on that experiment. The experiment was performed via BlueROV2 (Remotely Operated Vehicle) using RaspberryPi and softwares such as QGC (QGroundControl) and ArduPilot. This paper explains the work, the results with the collected data and how we implemented the work is presented in the end. The intention of this experiment is to connect two PCs using RaspberryPi with MAVLink communication using a Commercial-Off-The-Shelf device.

  • Background: The present study used magnetoencephalography (MEG) to investigate the neural substrates for modified version of Treisman's visual search task. Methods: Two volunteers who gave informed consent participated MEG experiment. One was 27- year old male and another was 24-year-old female. All were right handed. Experiment were performed using a 306-channel biomagnetometer (Neuromag LTD). There were three task conditions in this experiment. The first was searching an open circle among seven closed circles (open condition). The second was searching a closed circle among seven uni-directionally open circles (closed condition). And the third was searching a closed circle among seven eight-directionally open circles (random (closed) condition). In one run, participants performed one task condition so there were three runs in one session of experiment. During one session, 128 trials were performed during every three runs. One participant underwent one session of experiment. The participant pressed button when they found targets. Magnetic source localization images were generated using software programs that allowed for interactive identification of a common set of fiduciary points in the MRI and MEG coordinate frames. Results: In each participant we can found activations of anterior cingulate, primary visual and association cortices, posterior parietal cortex and brain areas in the vicinity of thalamus. Conclusions: we could find activations corresponding to anterior and posterior visual attention systems.

  • In recent years, Chinese government established 4 pilot zones at Shandong, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian. The national marine development pilot zones policy is formed in order to promote development of Chinese marine economy, as if Chinese government selected 4 special economic zones as the policy experiment areas for economic structural reform at the beginning stage of reform and opening-up. This article utilizes the policy-making theory of Incrementalism Model and aims at searching for the essence, historical formation process, implementation state, implications of 4 Chinese marine economic development pilot zones policy. Moreover, the prospect of their future development is analyzed. The marine pilot zone policy has the following features: new development model with advanced industries and sciences & technology, highly civil participation, plural policy goals. These research results would be able to contribute not only to getting better understanding of China's marine industry policy, but also to drawing lessons for the construction of Korea's marine economic special zone in the viewpoint of policy transfer.

  • Typically, closed production system units are subject to an accumulation of fine suspended solids and dissolved organics (Weeks et at., 1992). Foam fractionation process is believed to be most effective in marine application for solids removal. In present experiment, the performance of foam fractionator for removal of solids, protein, and other dissolved materials was evaluated at different foam overflow heights and air flow rates in a pilot-scale recirculating aquaculture system for culture of Korean rockfish. • The main object of this paper is to develop a leave-one-out(LOO) bound of all pairwise comparison error correcting output codes (APC-ECOC). To avoid using classifiers whose corresponding target values are 0 in APC-ECOC and requiring pilot estimates we developed a bound based on mean misclassification probability(MMP). It can be used to tune kernel hyperparameters. Our empirical experiment using kernel mean squared estimate(KMSE) as the binary classifier indicates that the bound leads to good estimates of kernel hyperparameters.

  • A small wastewater collection system for rural area was reviewed and the small diameter gravity (SDG) was thought to be the most appropriate. The pilot-scale field experiment was performed for 15 months and the result is presented. The wastewater used for experiment was the effluent of septic tank in Kon-Kuk University, and components are similar to normal domestic wastewater. The SDG experimental system included 2" PVC pipe and reverse-sloped lower section is included. No clogging problem by solids was experienced at the points where flow direction changed. The pipe-breaking by freezing was experienced during the cold weather, thus proper protection may be required where severe weather is expected.

  • This study carried out zeta potential measurements of the Microcystis sp. under various solutions condition and investigated the characteristics of Microcystis sp. through the size control of microbubbles to eliminate algae that causes problems in aquatic ecosystems and human activities. DAF process was adopted and several coagulants were used to remove the Microcystis sp. CCD Camera was used to measure and analyze the size of microbubble, and fluorescent microscope was used to observe the particle, algae species and community. Zeta potential behavior of the algae was analyzed by using ELS-Z. Lab-scale and pilot-scale experiments were conducted to test flotation process. Polyaluminium chloride(PAC) coagulant was used, and the removal efficiency of the algae was assessed through Chlorophyll-a analysis. In the Lab-scale experiment, 2.2 ppm, 11 ppm, 22 ppm, and 44 ppm of polyaluminium chloride was injected to coagulate the algae. The coagulated algae was floated by the microbubble. The microbubbles in the experiments were generated at a air pressure of 450 ~ 550 kPa. The microbubble size was controlled in $36{\mu}m$, $100{\mu}m$, and $200{\mu}m$, respectively by using different diffuser. The results of lab-scale experiments on flotation plant indicated that the average removal rate was about 90% or above for 11 ppm, 22 ppm, and 44 ppm of polyaluminium chloride. On the other hand, in the pilot-scale experiment, the removal efficiency was in the range of 85% to 95% in all dose ranges of polyalumium chloride and aluminium sulfate coagulants.

  • According to a NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies report, temperatures have risen by approximately 1℃ so far, based on temperatures recorded in 1880. The 2003 heatwave in Europe affected approximately 35,000 people across Europe. In this study, a cooling fog, which is used in smart cities, was designed to efficiently reduce the temperature during a heatwave and its pilot test results were interpreted. A model experiment of the cooling fog was conducted using a chamber, in which nano mist spray instruments and spray nozzles were installed. The designed cooling fog chamber model showed a temperature reduction of up to 13.8℃ for artificial pavement and up to 8.0℃ for green surfaces. However, this model was limited by constant wind speed in the experiment. Moreover, if the cooling fog is used when the wind speed is more than 3m/s in the active green zone, the temperature reduction felt by humans is expected to be even greater. As a second study, the effect of cooling fog on temperature reduction was analyzed by installing a pilot test inside the Land Housing Institute (LHI). The data gathered in this research can be useful for the study of heat reduction techniques in urban areas.
