  • The ceramic filters were developed using technology similar to that of quartz crystal and electro- mechanical filter. However, the key to this development involved the theoretical analysis of vibration modes and material improvements of piezoelectric ceramics. The primary application of ceramic filters has been for consumer-market use. Accordingly, a major emphasis has involved mass production technology, leading to low-priced devices. A typical ceramic filter includes monolithic resonators and capacitors packaged in unique configurations. Nakazawa developed a double-mode resonator as two acoustically coupled single resonators. And he developed 10.7MHz crystal filters using multi-energy trapping mode of thickness shear vibration. He succeeded in realizing a two-pole band pass filter response without external inductance by splitting a dot electrode to creak coupled symmetric and anti- symmetric vibration modes. Accordingly, the simulation for ceramic (inter were important. So that, this paper were investigated the pass frequency of filter on the electrode length and thickness of ceramic.

  • Currently, increasing attention is being paid to relaxor-based ferroelectric single crystals in photoacoustic images, especially for high-end applications. Among the crystals are (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (PMN-100xPT) single crystals located near their morphotropic phase boundary (x = 0.30-0.35) because of their ultrahigh piezoelectric and electromechanical coupling properties. The alternating current poling (ACP) treatment, rather than the conventional direct current poling treatment, has recently been spotlighted due to its effectiveness in enhancing the piezoelectric properties. So far, it has been suggested that the enhanced piezoelectricity originates from either a domain miniaturization to nanodomains or from an electric-field-induced monoclinic symmetry. In this study, we demonstrate by thermally stimulated depolarization current measurements that the effect of ACP is too complex to be explained using a single mechanism and that the proposed electric-field-induced monoclinic symmetry is unlikely to exist.

  • KLN(K3Li2Nb5O15) has attracted a great deal of attention for their potential usefulness in piezoelectric, electro-optic, nonlinear optic, and pyroelectirc devices. Especially, the KLN single crystal has been studied in the field of optics and electronics. However it is hard to produce good quality single crystals due to the crack propagation during crystal growing. One of the solutions of this problem is prepartion of thin film. But the intensive study has not been conducted so far. In this study, after the KLN thin film were prepared by R.F. magnetron Sputtering method on SiO2/Si substrate, the post-annealing methods of RTA(rapid thermal annealin) and IPA(insitu post annealing) were employed. The deposition condition of KLN thin film was RF power(100 W), Working pressure(100 mtorr). The commonness of both RAT and IPA was that the higher were deposition and post annealing temperature, the higher was the intensity of XRD but the less surface roughness. The difference of post-annealing methods affected XRD phase and surface condition very much. And in IPA process, the influence of O2 had much effect on the formation of KLN phase.

  • Langasite is a promising new piezoelectric material for SAW filter application. Little was known until recently about the methods needed to mechanically polish and chemically polish/etch this material. In this experiment, polishing, slurry chemistry and chemical wet etching for langasite is described. Conventional quartz and LN ($LiNbO_3$) polishing methods did not produce satisfactory polished surfaces, and polishing with a colloidal silica slurries has shown to be most effective. The optimum condition was investigated by changing the slurry chemistry. As the planarization effect is very important in SAW filter applications, the examination of the effective particle number effect and the particle size effect was carried out. Z-cut langasite surface which had been polished with the colloidal silica slurries was etched in a variety of etchants. Conventional quartz etchants destroyed the polished surface. Other etchants formed a thin film on the surfaces. In this experiment, the reaction between langasite and a few etching solution was analysed. And an appropriate selective etchant solution for analyzing the defects was synthesized.

Enhanced Piezoelectric Properties of Lead-Free La and Nb Co-Modified Bi0.5(Na0.84K0.16)0.5TiO3-SrTiO3 Ceramics

  • New lead-free piezoelectric ceramics $0.96[\{Bi_{0.5}(Na_{0.84}K_{0.16})_{0.5}\}_{1-x}La_x(Ti_{1-y}Nb_y)O_3]-0.04SrTiO_3$ (BNKT-ST-LN, where $x=y=0.00{\leq}(x=y){\leq}0.015)$ were synthesized using the conventional solid-state reaction method. Their crystal structure, microstructure, and electrical properties were investigated as a function of the La and Nb (LN) content. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the formation of a single-phase perovskite structure for all the LN-modified BNKT-ST ceramics in this study. The temperature dependence of the dielectric curves showed that the maximum dielectric constant temperature ($T_m$) shifted towards lower temperatures and the curves became more diffuse with an increasing LN content. At the optimum composition (LN 0.005), a maximum value of remnant polarization ($33C/cm^2$) with a relatively low coercive field (22 kV/cm) and high piezoelectric constant (215 pC/N) was observed. These results indicate that the LN co-modified BNKT-ST ceramic system is a promising candidate for lead-free piezoelectric materials.

  • Most of conventional ultrasonic transducers are constructed to generate either longitudinal or shear waves, but not both of them. We investigated the mechanism of dual mode transducers that generates both of the longitudinal and shear waves simultaneously with a single PZT element. A piezoelectric ceramic PZT has the hexagonal 6mm crystal symmetry, after poling. We studied the performance of a PZT element as a function of its rotation angle so that its efficiency is optimized to excite the two waves equally strongly. The results are verified by checking the impedance variation of the element with Finite Element Methods, and checking the wave form by pulse-echo test simulation. Validity of the theoretical calculation is verified through experiments.

  • In this paper, the measurement of SAW velocity on piezoelectric ceramic is studied. It can be done by using oscilloscope and pulse generator, and measure the velocity especially when feed-through is appeared. The propagating distance was exactly calculated considering that IDT responses are obtained by convolution theory, therefore the velocity was measured by the above simple method. As the results, the measurement velocity at room temperature was 3480 m/sec for $YZ-LiNbO_3$ single crystal and 2770 m/sec for a family of $PbTiO_3$ceramics with feed-through signal.

  • The structural, piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties of $(1-x)(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ x=0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, and 0.10) ceramics were investigated. A gradual change in the crystal and microstructures with tile increase of $BaTiO_3$ (BT) concentration was observed. The $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ (BNT) samples show unusual properties as ferroelectric relaxer materials. We observed a phase transition in BNT solid solutions with BT having normal ferroelectric phase transition. At room temperature, BNT presents a single phase without the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). In the case of samples doped with $4\~8 mol\%$ BT, rhombohedral-tetragonal MPB was formed and the piezoelectric properties were improved.

Grain Orientation and Electrical Properties of $Sr_2Nb_2O_7$ Ceramics and Thin Films (다결정 및 박막형 $Sr_2Nb_2O_7$의 입자배향과 전기적특성)

  • Polycrystalline $Sr_2Nb_2O_7$ ceramics with very high Curie temperature were sintered using the powder derived by the chemical coprecipitation method (CCP). The phase evolution and grain-orientation of sintered samples were examined by XRD, while sintering behavior, dielectric properties and polarization were studied by SEM and ferroelectric tester. Extremely high degree of grain-orientation was observed along the (0k0) direction, which resulted in anisotropic dielectric properties of the sintered samples, with the dielectric constant values approaching those for single crystal. Thin film fabrication of $Sr_2Nb_2O_7$ in the pyroniobate family was also attempted on $SiO_2$/Si(100), Pt/$SiO_2$/Si(100), Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si(100) and Pt/$ZrO_2/SiO_2/Si_2(100)$ substrates, using metalorganic decomposition (MOD) process. Neodecanoate precursor solution was prepared by mixing strontium neodecanoate with niobium neodecanoate synthesized from niobium ethoxide. It was found that $Sr_2Nb_2O_7$ single phase appeared in XRD patterns the samples annealed above $950^{\circ}C$. The effect of substrate type on film microstructure and dielectric properties was observed.
