This paper is concerned with the experiments on the active vibration control of a plate with piezoceramic sensors and actuators. The natural frequencies of the composite plate featured by a piezo-film sensor and piezo-ceramic actuator are calculated by using the modal analysis method. Modal coordinates are introduced to obtain the state equations of the structural system. Six natural frequencies were considered in the modelling, because robust control theory which has inherent robustness to structured uncertainty is adopted to suppress the transients vibrations of a glass fiber reinforced(GFR) composite beam. A robust controller satisfying the nominal performance and robust performance is designed using robust theory based on the structured singular value. Simulations were carried out with the designed controller and effectiveness of the robust control strategy was verified by results.
This paper presents the active control of a flexible cantilever beam vibration. The cantilever beam was excitied by a steady-state harmonic and white noise point force and the control was performed by one piezo ceramic actuator bonded to the surface of the beam. An adaptive controller based on filtered-x LMS algorithm was used and the controller was defined by minimizing the square of the response of error sensor. In the experiment, gap sensor was used as an error sensor while the sinusoidal or white noise was applied as a disturbance. In the case of sinusoidal input, more than 20 dB of vibration reduction was achieved over all range of the natural frequencies and it takes 5 seconds to control the vibration at first natural frequency and 1 second at other natural frequencies. In the case of white noise input, 7 dB of vibration reduction was achieved at the first natural frequency and good control performance was achieved in the considered whole frequency range. Results indicate that the vibration of a flexible cantilever beam could be controlled effectively when the piezo ceramic actuator was used with filtered-x LMS algorithm.
The objective of this study is to increase lift and decrease drag of an airfoil at high angles of attack by delaying flow separation with piezo-ceramic actuators. The airfoil used is NACA 0012 and its chord length is 0.3m. An experiment is performed at the freestream velocity of 15m/s at which the Reynolds number based on the chord length is $2{\times}10^5$. Seven rectangular actuators are attached to the airfoil surface and move up and down based on the electric signal. Drag and lift are measured using an in-house two-dimensional force-balance and the surface pressures are also measured. At the attack angle of $16^{\circ}$, the separation point is delayed downstream due to momentum addition induced by the movement of the actuators. Lift is increased by 10%, drag is reduced by 37%, and the efficiency is increased up to 170%. The flow fields with and without control are visualized using the smoke-wire and tuft techniques.
A fuzzy logic controller design technique is proposed to apply for the control of flexible system under irregular disturbance. The fuzzy rules of $\ulcorner$Mode Selecting Fuzzy Controller$\lrcorner$ are constructed using displacement, velocity information and modal characteristics of the system. The frequency information of flexible system is picked up from $\ulcorner$Mode Selecting Unit$\lrcorner$ based on Fast-Fourier transform algorithm. Experiment is conducted to verify the proposed theoretical approach, Piezo ceramic and laser accelerometer are used as actuator and sensor in the experiments respectively
This paper is to identify the position of random disturbance on flexible dynamic system, and the position of the piezo ceramic actuator 0 minimize tip response. Correlation of the output signals from each parts on flexible system is used to identify the position of random disturbance. Except the correlation with an output signal from the position of random disturbance, other correlations have time delay. This is a base idea to identify the position on this study.
The beam rotating actuator has been developed. It can be utilized to improve the data transfer rate for the optical disk systems, Newly developed laser beam rotating actuator is applied to put multi-beam spots on more than one track on the optical disk simultaneously. The beam rotating actuator is made of piezoelectric ceramic bimorph as the form of cantilever, Piezoelectric actuators with high resolution, high stiffness and fast frequency response are widely assembled in micropositioning applications. Therefore, the actuator has above 50Hz natural frequency. Beam array is rotated using the dove prism in the end of beamrotator. The dynamic equation of beam rotating actuator is derived theoretically. The actuator is designed on the ground of this analysis. The performance of the beam rotating actuator is verified as the dynamics frequency performance is measured using the dynamic analyzer and sensor.
This paper presents the fatigue characteristics of LIPCA (LIghtweight Piezo-Composite Actuator) device system. The LIPCA device system is composed of a piezoelectric ceramic layer and fiber reinforced lightweight composite layers. Typically a PZT ceramic layer is sandwiched by a top fiber layer with low CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) and base layers with high CTE. The advantages of the LIPCA design are weight reduction by using the lightweight fiber reinforced plastic layers without compromising the generation of high force and large displacement and design flexibility by selecting the fiber direction and the size of prepreg layers. To predict the degradation of actuation performance of LIPCA due to fatigue, the cyclic electric loading tests using PZT specimens were performed and the strain for a given excitation voltage was measured during the test. The results from the PZT fatigue test were implemented into CLPT (Classical Laminated Plate Theory) model to predict the degradation of LIPCA's actuation displacement. The fatigue characteristic of PZT was measured using a test system composed of a supporting jig, a high voltage power supplier, data acquisition board, PC, and evaluated.
This paper presents the multi-channel active vibration control of a flexible plate of the acoustically loaded enclosure. The flexible plate was excited acoustically with sinusoidal and white noise input. The control was performed by two piezo ceramic actuators and two accelerometers. The experimental results were compared with the single channel control results. In the case of white noise input, 20 dB of vibration reduction was achieved below 300Hz frequency range. The experimental results demonstrate that multi-channel filtered-x LMS algorithm is effective than single-channel filtered-x LMS algorithm in active vibration control of plate.
In this study, vibration control of the enclosed plate which is typical two dimensional structure are performed by using intelligent control method and piezo ceramic as an actuator attached at the plate. The characteristics of the plate with piezo ceramic are examined to identify the natural frequencies. Then, the plate is controlled under the sinusoidal excitation by acoustic source and the reduction level of vibration is examined via frequency response and time sequence. The control result shows the effect of the intelligent control method as a control scheme compared with that of the previous filtered-X LMS algorithm.

The anisotropy and shape of distributed piezopolymer actuator have advantages over isotropic piezo ceramic materials, since these features of PVDF can be utilized as another design variable in control application. This study is interested in the reduction of sound transmission through elastic plate into interior space by using the PVDF actuator. The plate-cavity system is adopted as a test problem. The vibration of composite plate and the sound fields through plate are analyzed by using the coupled finite element and boundary element method. Some numerical simulations are performed on sound transmission through elastic plates. To investigate the effects of anisotropy and shape of distributed piezopolymer actuator, various kinds of distributed PVDF actuators are applied in sound control simulation for isotropic and anisotropic plates. The PVDF actuators applied are different from each other in their shapes and laminate angles. The results of control simulation show that the control effectiveness of distributed PYDF actuator can be enhanced by using the coupling between shape of actuator and vibration modes of structure and the anisotropy of piezoelectric properties of PVDF.
