  • This study was to examine the effects of garment types on thermal insulation using a thermal manikin. cotton polyester wool silk and rayon were selected as outer wears like a blouse a skirt slacks and one-piece for this study Acetate was chosen as a lining. Brief and upper innerwear with long sleeves(cotton) were also chosen as the innerwear. The results were as follows: 1. The thermal insulation of the garment of single layer was in proportion to the covering area of garment in all types of clothing. 2. On adding the innerwear or the lining or both the thermal insulation of the each garment of single layer were showed a different trends by garment types. The thermal manikin insulations of one-piece dress adding the innerwear was higher than those of blouse-skirt suits. The thermal insulation of one-piece dress adding the innerwear and lining was lower than those of blouse-skirt suits. 3. The increasing rates of thermal insulation of multi-layered garments had different value by garment types but garment made of rayon and silk were showed very high increasing rates of thermal insulation. 4. The increasing rates of the thermal insulation of one-piece dress added the lining the innerwear or both except polyester showed the highest value and then blouse-slacks suits' turn came ound Blouse-skirt suits had the lowest the increasing rates of thermal insualition value.

  • This study was to examine the effects of textiles materials and wearing types on the thermal regulation responses of human, Cotton polyester wool silk and rayon were chosen as outerwears and acetate was selected as a lining. Blouse-skirt suits blouse-slacks suits and one-piece dress made of selected textiles were examined by human trials, Tests results were as follows ; 1 When subjects wore vlouse-slacks suits Tmsk was showed the highest value. There was a significant difference on Tmsk(p<0.05) when they wore one-piece dress. The temperature of microclimate inside clothing when subjects wore blouse-slacks suits showed the highest value and one-piece dress and then blouse-skirt suits in order. For blouse-skirt suits clothing without lining showed higher temperature of the back of microclimate inside clothing than clothing with lining except cotton(p<0.1) 2. There were no significant consistency of the increasing rates of thermal insulation of garment at fabric test and human trials among polyesterand silk.

  • In the case of a fire accident on a ship or an offshore plant, the design of the bulkhead penetration piece must be verified via a fire test procedure (FTP), as specified by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC). The purpose of this study is to verify both the numerical analysis results and the design specifications for penetration pieces that could be applied to the A60 class bulkhead division. In this study, the FTP was carried out in accordance with the test procedure prescribed in the MSC regulation. In order to review the fire resistance performance according to the material type, bulkhead penetration pieces for the FTP were made from brass, carbon steel for machine structures (S45C), and austenite stainless steel (SUS316). In addition, spray-type insulation and mechanical fastener-type insulation were applied to investigate the fire resistance performance according to the type of insulation. To verify the heat transfer numerical analysis results for the A60 class bulkhead penetrating piece from this test study, the design specifications of the penetrating piece material and the insulation type applicable to a ship and an offshore plant were identified.

Cotton, polyester, wool, silk and rayon were selected as outer wears like blouses, skirts, slacks, and one-pieces. Acetate was chosen as a lining. Brief and long sleeve upper underwear(cotton) were chosen as the inner wears. The results were as follows; There were no significant differences among the materials in skirts and blouse-skirt suits by the thermal manikin. However blouses, slacks, one-pieces and blouse-slacks suits were showed the effects of materials. Blouse-slacks suits was showed the highest thermal insulation value and one-piece had the lowest thermal insulation value.

  • Polycarbonate (PC) materials having electrical insulation properties, are thermoplastic material and are easily processed, have excellent strength and heat resistance characteristics, and also have transparent and hard characteristics. In this study, we tried to derive the ε-N curve of strain-life, which shows the relationship between the strain characteristics and the life of the material when repeated impact loads are applied to the PC plastic material. As the impact load increased to 3.0kg, 4.0kg, 5.0kg, and 6.0kg, the strain also increased linearly to 0.033, 0.041, 0.046, and 0.055. At 3.0kg of mass impact, the test piece broke with 12000 impact cycles, 8400 times at 3.5kg, 7400 times at 4.0kg, 6600 times at 4.5kg, 4700 times at 5.0kg, 3000 times at 5.5kg, and 1000 times at 6.0kg. The number of fractures exponentially decreased as the load gradually increased. Using these results, an ε-N curve for PC plastic was derived.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine how effectively waste tire recycled material mixed with flame retardant work in combating fire. As discovered in the previous study, waste tire mixed with cement mortar has more insulation capacity. However, this mortar is weak against fire. Therefore flame retardant, with a specific proportional mix, will be added to increase its fire prevention capacity. Tests will be made in accordance with ISO 5657 procedures for measuring fire ignition time, flame and shape variation of test pieces at the Building Material Test Institute. The test piece will be set up with horizontal levels having a constant radiation heat of $1{\sim}5W/cm^2$. Temperature transfers and increases from the surface into the interior. Combustible gases result due to pyrolysis, and regular contact is maintained between the fire source and the center of the test piece for assessment purposes. Ignition has not been occurred without adding retardant meaning that there is almost no possibility of ignition of waste tire particle. This fact can be considered as fire load to appreciate a volume of combustion materials. Flame is not occurred due to heat-absorbing effect by adding non-organic series retardant into waste tire particle. Conclusions have been summarized as follows; 1) Combustion of building material can be decreased by adding retardant to waste tire-mixing mortar. But compressive strength and insulation capacity of the material should be measured later. 2) Firing prevention and ignition are main points of building fire. Reasonable fire engineering assessment of interior material should be made for establishing effective disaster prevention system.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate problems of design, fitness, suitability for movement, and comfort in current Korean military tank driver's clothing through analysis of actual wearing condition by questionnaire and field evaluation and. to provide basic data for developing a improved design of Korean military tank driver's clothing. The survey was done for 477 military tank driver and the field evaluation was also done for evaluation. The overall satisfaction for design of military tank driver's clothing(3.25) was higher than that for the easiness in wearing and taking off(2.76). The military tank drivers evaluated that current coverall type of clothing is more suitable than two-piece type of clothing. The overall satisfaction for fitness of clothing was as a whole low(2.82~3.09), Especially, the satisfaction for fitness of from front and back rise length was the lowest one. In the satisfaction for clothing materials, the satisfaction for the breathability of material was the lowest, followed by clothing insulation and air permeability. The satisfaction for movement was low in bending waist and raising forward and aside. The part which surveyors think most dissatisfactory was also front and back rise length. The frequency in use of pocket was the highest in chest pocket, followed by waist and pants pockets. The satisfaction for opening easiness of hips opening part was very low(2.64).
