Human sensibility is assessed by measuring and analyzing various physiological signals in an objective way, or by analyzing adjectives chosen by the subjects in a subjective way. The present study aims at developing an integrated human sensibility assessment system that measures changes in a person's objective and subjective sensibility in real-time and analyzes them in an integrative way. The present system is composed of a real-time subjective sensibility assessment system, an automatic subjective sensibility assessment system and a real-time physiological signal measurement and analysis system for sensibility assessment, which are separated from one another. It can be utilized individually, or can be combined as a synthetic sensibility assessment system for comprehensive sensibility assessment.
We are exposed to the various external stimuli input from the environment, which cause emotional changes based on the characteristics of the stimuli. Unfortunately, there are noquantitative results on relationship between human sensibility and the characteristics of physiological signals. The objective of this study was to quantify EEG signals evoked by visual stimulation based on the assumption that the analysis of the variability on the characteristics of the EEG waveform may provide the significant information regarding changes in psychological states of the subject. Seven university students were participated in this study. The experiment was devised with eleven experimental conditions, which are control and ten different types of visual stimulation based on IAPS(International Affective Picture Systems). Seven subjects were used to obtain EEGs while introducing visual stimulation. Wavelet transformation was employed to analyze the EEG signals. Most Positive and negative emotional response were pairely compared. The results showed that the reconstructed signals at the decomposition level revealed the different energy value on the EEG signals. Also, general patterns of EEG signals in rest state compare with negative and positive stimulus were found. This study could be extended to estabish an algorithm which distinguishes psychophysiological states of the subjects exposed to the visual stimulation.
Voice is one of the most efficient communication media and it includes several kinds of factors about speaker, context emotion and so on. Human emotion is expressed in the speech, the gesture, the physiological phenomena(the breath, the beating of the pulse, etc). In this paper, the method to have cognizance of emotion from anyone's voice signals is presented and simulated by using neuro-fuzzy model.
There have been many questionnaires, catecholeamins analysis and bio-signal analysis to analyze human stress condition through out the years, and especially researches in bio-signal analysis have been actively increasing. The purpose of our research is Quantitative analysis of stress with synthesis of bio-signals. The stress status was estimated using the bio-signals and fuzzy theory which combines these signals and physiological knowledge. Stress was estimated by a 'coin-stacking' experiment with two type-relax and stress status. To do the experiment EMG, respiration, periphery temperature, heart rate and skin conductances were used to evaluate human stress stages. The system was tested to 10 healthy persons and achieved a template of a stress progress and stress variations were classified to 4 steps by continuous or rising status of stress progress.

The results showed that the reconstructed signals at the decomposition level revealed the different energy value on the EEG signals. Also, general patterns of EEG signals in rest state compare with positive and negative stimulus were found. This study could be extended to establish an algorithm which distinguishes psychophysiological states of the subjects exposed to the visual stimulation.
We have developed a device for recording biological data by inserting three electrodes and a needle with an angular velocity sensor into the moth for the purpose of measuring the electromyogram of the flapping and the corresponding lift force. With this measurement, it is possible to evaluate the moth-physiological function of moths, and the amount of pesticides that insects are exposed to (currently LD50-based standards), especially the amount of chronic low-concentration exposure, can be reduced the dose. We measured and recorded 2-channel electromyography (EMG) and angular velocity corresponding to pitch angle (pitch-like angle) associated with wing flapping for 100 sweet potato hawkmoths (50 females and 50 males) with the animals suspended and constrained in air. Overall, the angular velocity and amplitude of EMG signals demonstrated high correlation, with a correlation coefficient of R = 0.792. In contrast, the results of analysis performed on the peak-to-peak (PP) EMG intervals, which correspond to the RR intervals of ECG signals, indicated a correlation between ΔF fluctuation and angular velocity of R = 0.379. Thus, the accuracy of the regression curve was relatively poor. Using a DC amplification circuit without capacitive coupling as the EMG amplification circuit, we confirmed that the baseline changes at the gear change point of wing flapping. The following formula gives the lift provided by the wing: angular velocity × thoracic weight - air resistance - (eddy resistance due to turbulence). In future studies, we plan to attach a micro radio transmitter to the moths to gather data on potential energy, kinetic energy, and displacement during free flight for analysis. Such physiological functional evaluations of moths may alleviate damage to insect health due to repeated exposure to multiple agrochemicals and may lead to significant changes in the toxicity standards, which are currently based on LD50 values.
We are exposed to the various external stimuli input from the environment, which cause emotional changes based on the characteristics of the stimuli. Unfortunately there are no quantitative results on relationship between human sensibility and the characteristics of physiological signals. The objective of this study was to quantify EEG signals evoked by auditory stimulation based on the assumption that the analysis of the variability on the characteristics of the EEG waveform may provide the significant information regarding changes in psychological states of the subject. The experiment was devised with seven experimental conditions, which are control and six different types of auditory stimulation. Six subjects were used to obtain EEGs while introducing auditory stimulation. Wavelet transformation was employed to analyze the EEG signals. The results showed that the reconstructed signals at the decomposition level revealed the different energy value on the EEG signal. Also, general patterns of EEG signals in rest state compare with negative and positive stimulus were found. This study could be extended to establish an algorithm which distinguishes psychophysiological states of the subjects exposed to the auditory stimulation.
Nowadays, one of the most common diseases is chronic mental fatigue syndrome. This can be caused by many factors, such as busy life, heavy workload, high population density, and adverse technological impact. Most office workers and students who are sitting all day long while being exposed to this kind of environments are likely to be involved in the mental illness. Therefore, to prevent the illness, it has been highly required to design a device that enables mental fatigue to be monitored continuously without human intervention. This paper proposes a linear regression method to reliably estimating the level of human mental fatigue using wearable physiological sensors, with an estimation error of 0.852. Also, this paper presents an Android application that is able to check mental health conditions in daily life.

We investigated the physiological patterns of cybersickness in a Virtual Reality(VR). Subject were exposed to the VR for 9.5 min, and required to detect specific virtual objects. Sixteen electrophysiological signals were recorded before, during, and after the virtual navigation. five questionnaires on the VR experience were acquired form 61 healthy subjects. During the virtual navigation, subjects with the high cybersickness susceptibility showed significant physiological changes, which included increased gastric tachyarrhythmia, eyeblink frequency, and EEG delta wave and decreased EEG beta wave. These results suggest that cybersickness may induce or accompany the changes in central nervous system and autonomic nervous system. Also, these results suggest that there may be increased sympathetic activation in autonomic drive for cybersickness.
In this study was proposed that a new estimating method for investigation of contractile state changes which generated from continuous isometric contraction of skeletal muscle. The physiological changes(EMG, ECG) and the psychological changes by CNS(central nervous system) were measured by experiments, while the muscle of subjects contracted continuously with isometric contraction in constant load. The psychological changes were represented as three-step-change named 'fatigue', 'pain' and 'sick(greatly pain)' from oral test, and the method which compared physiological change with psychological change on basis of these three steps was developed. The result of analyzing the physiological signals, EMG and ECG signal changes were observed at the vicinity of judging point in time of psychological changes. Namely, it is supposed that contractile states have three kind of states pattern (stable, fatigue, pain) instead of two states (stable, fatigue).
