GMI Magnetic Field Sensor based on Time-coded Principle

  • A GMI magnetic field sensor working based on time-coded principle has been investigated and designed. The laboratory model has been constructed and tested carefully, demonstrating the sensitivity of $3\;{\mu}s/{\mu}T$ in the field range of ${\pm}100\;{\mu}T$. An amorphous thin wire, $100\;{\mu}m$ in diameter ${\times}50\;mm$ in length, was chosen to be sensing element which was fit into a small field modulation coil of 60 mm in length. The sensor is working based on a time-coded principle that, with the magnetic field modulation was chosen in range of hundreds of Hz, the change in time interval of two adjacent GMI peaks relating to external DC magnetic field is proportional to the intensity of the external field to be measured. This mechanism has made a great improvement to the linearity of the sensor.

확률적 모델예측제어를 이용한 물리기반 제어기 지도 학습 프레임워크 (A Supervised Learning Framework for Physics-based Controllers Using Stochastic Model Predictive Control)

  • 본 논문에서는 확률적 모델예측제어(model predictive control) 기법을 이용하여 예제 동작 데이터가 주어지면 물리 기반 시뮬레이션 환경에서 그 동작을 모방할 수 있는 캐릭터 동작 제어기를 빠르게 학습할 수 있는 간편한 지도 학습(supervised learning) 프레임워크를 제안한다. 제안된 프레임워크는 크게 학습 데이터 생성과 오프라인 학습의 두 컴포넌트로 구성된다. 첫번째 컴포넌트는 예제 동작 데이터가 주어지면 확률적 모델예측제어를 통해 그 동작 데이터를 추적하기 위한 최적 제어기를 캐릭터의 현재 상태로부터 시작하여 가까운 미래 상태까지의 시간 윈도우에 대해 주기적으로 업데이트하면서 그 최적 제어기를 통해 캐릭터의 동작을 확률적으로 제어한다. 이러한 주기적인 최적 제어기의 업데이트와 확률적 제어는 주어진 예제 동작 데이터를 모방하는 동안 캐릭터가 가질 수 있는 다양한 상태들을 효과적으로 탐색하게 하여 지도 학습에 유용한 학습 데이터를 수집할 수 있게 해준다. 이렇게 학습 데이터가 수집되면, 오프라인 학습 컴포넌트에서는 그 수집된 데이터를 정규화 시켜서 데이터에 내제된 크기와 단위의 차이를 조정하고 지도 학습을 통해 제어기를 위한 간단한 구조의 인공 신경망을 학습시킨다. 걷기 동작과 달리기 동작에 대한 실험은 본 논문에서 제안한 학습 프레임워크가 물리 기반 캐릭터 동작 제어기를 빠르고 효과적으로 생성할 수 있음을 보여준다.

Design of silicon-on-nothing structure based on multi-physics analysis

  • The formation of silicon-on-nothing (SON) structure during an annealing process from the silicon substrate including the trench structures has been considered as an effective technique to construct the structure that has an empty space under the closed flat surface. Previous studies have demonstrated the mechanism of the formation of SON structure, which is based on the surface diffusion driven by the minimization of their surface energy. Also, it has been fragmentarily shown that the morphology of SON structure can be affected by the initial design of trench (e.g., size, number) and the annealing conditions (e.g., temperature, pressure). Based on the previous studies, here, we report a comprehensive study for the design of the cavity-embedded structure (i.e., SON structure). To do this, a dynamic model has been developed with the phase field approach. The simulation results represent that the morphology of SON structures could be detailedly designed, for example the position and thickness of cavity, the thickness of top and bottom layer, according to the design parameters. This study will give us an advantage in the effective design of SON structures.

Henry gas solubility optimization for control of a nuclear reactor: A case study

  • Meta-heuristic algorithms have found their place in optimization problems. Henry gas solubility optimization (HGSO) is one of the newest population-based algorithms. This algorithm is inspired by Henry's law of physics. To evaluate the performance of a new algorithm, it must be used in various problems. On the other hand, the optimization of the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) gains for load-following of a nuclear power plant (NPP) is a good challenge to assess the performance of HGSO. Accordingly, the power control of a pressurized water reactor (PWR) is targeted, based on the point kinetics model with six groups of delayed-neutron precursors. In any optimization problem based on meta-heuristic algorithms, an efficient objective function is required. Therefore, the integral of the time-weighted square error (ITSE) performance index is utilized as the objective (cost) function of HGSO, which is constrained by a stability criterion in steady-state operations. A Lyapunov approach guarantees this stability. The results show that this method provides superior results compared to an empirically tuned PID controller with the least error. It also achieves good accuracy compared to an established GA-tuned PID controller.

Deformation estimation of truss bridges using two-stage optimization from cameras

  • Structural integrity can be accessed from dynamic deformations of structures. Moreover, dynamic deformations can be acquired from non-contact sensors such as video cameras. Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT) algorithm is one of the commonly used methods for motion tracking. However, averaging throughout the extracted features would induce bias in the measurement. In addition, pixel-wise measurements can be converted to physical units through camera intrinsic. Still, the depth information is unreachable without prior knowledge of the space information. The assigned homogeneous coordinates would then mismatch manually selected feature points, resulting in measurement errors during coordinate transformation. In this study, a two-stage optimization method for video-based measurements is proposed. The manually selected feature points are first optimized by minimizing the errors compared with the homogeneous coordinate. Then, the optimized points are utilized for the KLT algorithm to extract displacements through inverse projection. Two additional criteria are employed to eliminate outliers from KLT, resulting in more reliable displacement responses. The second-stage optimization subsequently fine-tunes the geometry of the selected coordinates. The optimization process also considers the number of interpolation points at different depths of an image to reduce the effect of out-of-plane motions. As a result, the proposed method is numerically investigated by using a truss bridge as a physics-based graphic model (PBGM) to extract high-accuracy displacements from recorded videos under various capturing angles and structural conditions.

2015 개정 과학과 교육과정에 기초한 예비 물리교사를 위한 현대물리 개념 진단지 개발 및 타당화 연구 (A Study on Developing and Validating the Modern Physics Conceptual Diagnostic Survey for Pre-Service Physics Teachers based on the 2015 Revised National Science Curriculum)

  • 본 연구는 2015 개정 과학과 교육과정에 제시된 성취기준에 기초하여 현대물리 개념지식에 대한 예비 물리교사의 이해를 진단할 수 있는 개념 진단지를 개발하고 타당도와 신뢰도를 확인하였다. Messick(1995)의 분류에 따른 5가지 타당도 중 검사내용에 기초한 타당도는 일련의 전문가 내용타당도 검사로 진행하여 확인한 후 24문항의 설문용 현대물리 개념 진단지를 구성하였다. 국내 15개 사범대학의 467명의 예비 물리교사에게 개발된 현대물리 개념 진단지를 적용하여 문항의 신뢰도와 Messick(1995)의 나머지 4가지 타당도를 확인하였다. 실제에 기초한 타당도는 Rasch 모형이 적용된 통계분석방법으로 문항적합도(MNSQ)를 확인한 결과, 23문항이 적합한 수준으로 나타났다. 이중 오타가 발생한 문항을 제외한 22문항에 대하여 내적구조에 기초한 타당도 분석을 하여 개발된 현대물리 개념 진단지의 일차원성을 확인하였다. 일반화에 기초한 타당도 확인 결과에 따르면 개발된 개념 진단지가 집단특성에 대해 독립적이라고 판단된다. 양자역학 수강 여부에 따른 검사점수의 t-검증 결과, 유의미한 차이가 나타났으며, 이를 외적준거에 기초한 타당도 확인으로 활용하였다. Cronbach alpha 및 Rasch 모형 분석에서의 피험자 신뢰도와 문항신뢰도 값은 검사자료가 적합한 수준의 신뢰도를 갖는다는 보여주었다. 또한 고전검사이론에 의한 문항분석 결과, 양호한 문항난이도를 보여주었으며 문항변별도는 두 문항이 준거값을 벗어났으나 다른 나머지 문항들은 양호한 값을 보여주었다. 양류상관계수는 한 문항을 제외한 나머지에 대해서 양호한 값을 나타내었다. KR-20과 Ferguson's delta 값 역시 검사지가 양호하다는 것을 보여주었다. 마지막으로 문항반응 이론에 의한 문항난이도(추정치)를 Rasch 모형 분석으로 추정하였으며, 이 값들은 피험자 집단 특성에 영향을 받지 않을 것으로 판단된다.

  • The redundant manipulator extends the application fields of classical nonredundant manipulators. In this paper, we propose Premultiplier Model that describes the static behavior of redundant manipulator. This model provides insight and intuition about algebra and physics related to redundant manipulators. Active operational space stiffness control of redundant manipulators is proved to be always unstable and we propose a technique, based on our methodology, to make stiffness control stable.

Three Dimensional Target Volume Reconstruction from Multiple Projection Images

  • The aim of this study is to reconstruct the 3D target volume from multiple projection images. It was assumed that we were already aware of the target position exactly, and all processes were performed in Target Coordinates whose origin was the center of the target. We used six projections: two projections were used to make a Reconstruction Box and four projections were for image acquisition. Reconstruction Box was made up of voxels of 3D matrix. Projection images were transformed into 3D volume in this virtual box using geometrical based back-projection method. Algorithm was applied to an ellipsoid model and horse-shoe shaped model. Projection images were created using C program language by geometrical method and reconstruction was also accomplished using C program language and Matlab(The Mathwork Inc., USA). For ellipsoid model, reconstructed volume was slightly overestimated but target shape and position was proved to be correct. For horse-shoe shaped model, reconstructed volume was somewhat different from original target model but there was a considerable improvement in target volume determination.

  • 공모양의 단단한 종양안에서 수동조준된 약물의 전달에 관한 모델이론이 적절한 경계조건과 초기조건하에서 픽의 확산법칙으로부터 유도된다. 종양안의 농도는 초기값이 일정하면 시간과 지름의 함수로 나타난다. 생각실험(사고실험)으로부터 예측되는 바와 같이, 농도는 시간이 경과함에 따라 평형값에 접근한다. 시간에 따른 농도의 변화는 조직안의 약물의 확산계수, 종양의 크기, 주입된 약물의 양, 경계면에서의 농도의 물매(gradient)에 의해 결정된다.

Cell Cycle Regulation in the Budding Yeast

  • Cell cycle is regulated cooperatively by several genes. The dynamic regulatory mechanism of protein interaction network of cell cycle will be presented taking the budding yeast as a sample system. Based on the mathematical model developed by Chen et at. (MBC, 11,369), at first, the dynamic role of the feedback loops is investigated. Secondly, using a bifurcation diagram, dynamic analysis of the cell cycle regulation is illustrated. The bifurcation diagram is a kind of ‘dynamic road map’ with stable and unstable solutions. On the map, a stable solution denotes a ‘road’ attracting the state and an unstable solution ‘a repelling road’ The ‘START’ transition, the initiation of the cell cycle, occurs at the point where the dynamic road changes from a fixed point to an oscillatory solution. The 'FINISH' transition, the completion of a cell cycle, is returning back to the initial state. The bifurcation analysis for the mutants could be used uncovering the role of proteins in the cell cycle regulation network.
