The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of mulberry and persimmon leaf powder with various contents(0.04%, 0.08%) on physico-chemical and sensory properties of emulsified-sausages. There were no differences(P>0.05) in moisture and crude ash contents(%), but crude fat contents(%) of the sausages containing 0.8% persimmon leaf powder showed the highest, compared to other treatments. pH values of all treatments decreased during storage period. Sausages containing mulberry and persimmon leaf powder had more bright and yellow, but less red color than the control. Hardness values of the sausages containing 0.04% mulberry and persimmon leaf powder were higher than those of a control and other treatments. The addition of mulberry leaf powder had better flavor and overall palatability of sausages than persimmon leaf powder. However, no differences in color, flavor, tenderness and overall palatability were observed on 60 days of storage. These results indicated that the addition of mulberry and persimmon leaf powder for the manufactured of emulsified-sausages partially affected physico-chemical and sensory properties. Further research will be performed why the addition of these powders affect the product quality.
In this study we assessed the effects of gamma irradiation ($0.5{\sim}3\;kGy$) on the microbial and physico-chemical characteristics of maesil (Prunus mume) stored for 9 days at $20^{\circ}C$. Total aerobic bacteria, yeasts and molds were significantly decreased with increases in the irradiation dosage. In terms of the Hunter's color value, irradiated samples evidenced a higher b-value, but a lower a-value than the non-irradiated samples. Hardness was reduced with increment in the irradiation dose level. The contents of total sugar, hydrogen donating activity and organic acids were not affected by irradiation. The reducing sugar contents of the irradiated samples were superior to those of the non-irradiated samples. Vitamin C contents were reduced with the progression of storage periods and increases in the dosage level. These results demonstrated that gamma irradiation of 0.5 to 3 kGy affected the microbiological safety of maesil, but did not affect the physico-chemical characteristics(total sugar, hydrogen donating activity and organic acid) but the Hunter's color value, hardness, and vitamin C contents of the maesil deteriorated with gamma irradiation.
A large amount of waste copper slag containing about 35 ~ 45% iron has been generated and discarded every year from pyrometallurgical processes for producing copper from copper concentrate. Thus, recovery of iron from the waste copper slag is of great interest for comprehensive use of mineral resource and reduction of environment problems. In this study, a physico-chemical separation process for upgrading iron from the waste copper slag discharged as an industrial waste has been developed. The process first crushes the waste copper slag below 1 mm (first crushing step), followed by carbon reduction at $1225^{\circ}C$ for 90 min (carbon reduction step). And then, resulting material is again crushed to $-104{\mu}m$ (second crushing step), followed by wet magnetic separation (wet magnetic separation step). Using the developed process, a magnetic product containing more than 66 wt.% iron was obtained from the magnetic separation under a magnetic field strength of 0.2 T for the waste copper slag treated by the reduction reaction. At the same conditions, the percentage recovery of iron was over 72%. The iron rich magnetic product obtained should be used as a iron resource for making pig iron.

This study was conducted to obtain the information about injury caused by continuous cropping of peony (Paeonia lactiflora). Soil physico-chemical properties, characteristics of microbial distribution and diversities in the continuous cropped field with peony were analyzed. As the results, pH and organic matter content were higher in the continuous cropping soil than those in the first cropping soil. Bulk density was decreased but porosity was increased in the continuous cropping soil. As the cultivation period was lengthened in years, the populations of bacteria and actinomyces were gradually decreased, whereas fungal population was increased. It was shown that the metabolic diversity patterns of the microbial communities in the continuous cropping soil differed from that of the first cropping soil. These results indicate that deterioration of soil quality such as physico-chemical properties including a soil depth, bulk density, porosity and soil pH is related with a continuous cultivation periods, and also affect a microbial population, especially fungi.

Soft marine clay deposits pose several foundation problems. Generally, lime stabilization is used worldwide for solidifying of soft marine clay deposits. In this paper, a series of laboratory tests were conducted to verify clay-lime reaction. A clay was collected from Pusan, which was mixed with various quantities of quick lime and slaked lime. Various compounds produced by clay-lime reaction were identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. The physico-chemical properties of the clay were also investigated. Compounds such as calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), calcium aluminate hydrate (CAH), calcium aluminate (CA), hillebrandite, and gehlenite were identified. It is likely that such compounds were mainly produced by pozzolanic reaction. Based on the change of physico-chemical properties obtained by the reaction, the water content was considerably decreased when lime was added to the clay. In addition, unconfined strength was increased. In the other hand, quick lime was more effective than slaked lime in decreasing and increasing of the water content and unconfined strength, respectively. Fewer cracks were produced when the clay was mixed with quick lime. It is suggested that these beneficial changes produced by the mixing of the clay and lime depend on the properties of compounds obtained by chemical reaction.
Water quality demonstrates physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water. The quality of surface and groundwater is currently an important concern with population growth and industrialization. Over exploitation of water resources due to demand is causing the deterioration of surface water and ground water. Periodic water quality testing must be carried out to protect our water resources. The present research analyses the spatial variation of surface water and groundwater in and around the lakes of Hyderabad. Twenty-Seven lakes and their neighboring bore water samples are obtained for water quality monitoring. Samples are evaluated for specific physico-chemical parameters such as pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cl, SO4, Na, K, Ca, Mg, and Total Hardness (TH). The spatial variation of water quality parameters for the 27 lakes and groundwater were analysed. Correlation and multiple regression analysis were carried out to determine comparative study of lake and ground water. The study found that most of the lakes were polluted and this had an impact on surrounding ground water.
Generation and physico-chemical characteristics of municipal solid wastes are very important for sanitary management. However, that has not been investigated so far especially in chunchon. And so, we tried to examine many things in detail. It was resulted that density was $90{\sim}94kg/m^3$ in school and office zone and $290{\sim}298kg/m^3$ in apartment and market place. The compositional weight fraction was food, 40~54%, paper, 14~18%, vinyl and prastic, 14~20% in house zone and market place and paper, 42~70% in school and office zone. Moisture was estimated to be 54~57% in independent house zone, apartment and market place and 11~23% in school and office zone. And three composition was water content, 44.1%, incineration particle, 11.2%, volatile parts, 44.7% in respectively. That is because of seasonal effects and regional chracteristics. In the results of chemical composition and caloric value analysis, carbon(C) was 80% in vinyl and plastic and oxygen(O) was 54.4% in paper.
The smectite-rich clays were found locally in Paleozoic calcareous sedimentary rocks in the Samcheok area. Their occurrences were investigated in detail, and the physico-chemical properties of the clays were also determined by X-ray diffraction, chemical analysis, thermal analysis and cation exchanging experiment. The smectite clays occur as the fissure filling dyke developed in calcareous sedimentary rock and as alteration products of intrusive rhyolite. Most of clays occur at the contact between the sedimentary rock and the rhyolite, and the alteration zone was observed only in rhyolite body close to the contact. Judging from their occurrences, it is believed that the smectite-rich clays in this area were formed by the hydrothemal alteration. The smectite clays from the area are mainly composed of Ca-montmorillonite, and associated with small quantities of quartz, opal-CT and feldspar. The montmorillonites from this area are lower in Fe content, and higher in exchangeable Ca ion, compared to those of bentonite from the Yangnam-Yeongil area.
The influences of various operating parameters on physico-chemical techniques were evaluated to remediate petroleum-contaminated sandy soil including S/L ratio, kinetic, and effect of soil particle size. The simple extraction using tap water removed only 20.6% of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH), and addition of NaOH enhanced the removal of TPH to approximately 30%. To meet the regulation levels, a surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate, was added, and the removal of TPH increased to 4 times. Probably, the carbonate minerals affected chemical aging and soprtion of petroleum, which inhibited the extraction of TPH. The soil with smaller particle size contained more TPH, and the removal of TPH was obstructed with smaller particle size. However, NaOH addition increased the removal of TPH in the smaller particles. The physico-chemical properties of soil influenced greatly the removal of petroleum even in sandy soil.

LB71350 is an HIV protease inhibitor with poor aqueous solubility and extensive first pass effect. The purpose of the present study was to test the feasibility of solid dosage form of LB71350 with improved bioavailability utilizing solid dispersion. Three different compositions with varying ratio of (LB71350: Gelucire 44/14: Tween 20) were studied. Capsule filling of these solid dispersion compositions was tested using a semi-automatic capsule filling system. Oral bioavailability in dog was tested. Chemical and physical stability at 4, 25 and $40^{\circ}C$ was monitored by HPLC assay, dissolution test, powder XRD and microscopy. The capsule filling system yielded uniform products of drug loading up to 10%. Oral bioavailability in dog was improved compared to the aqueous suspension of crystalline LB71350. Capsules were chemically stable for up to 6 months at $40^{\circ}C$. However, there were temperature and composition dependent physical changes. Decrease in dissolution rates after storage at $40^{\circ}C$ was due to the polymorphic change. In conclusion, manufacturing process, bioavailability, and physico-chemical stability have been considered to propose a solid dispersion capsule formulation for the HIV protease inhibitor with poor physico-chemical properties. A new less soluble crystalline form identified during the physical stability test warrants further study.
