Background : To assess the effect of a pelvic compression belt on the strength of hip flexor in healthy young individuals. Study design: Pre- and post-treatment measurement design on one factor was used. Methods : 30 healthy volunteers (male: 15, female: 15) participated in this study. Dynamometer was used to measure the strength of hip flexor, and measurements were performed before and after the application of the pelvic compression belt at neutral position of hip joint and at 30 cm raised position from floor with straight leg in supine. Results : After the application of the pelvic compression belt, the strengths of hip flexor measured at both positions were significantly increased when compared with before the application (p<.05). However, at neutral position of hip joint and at 30cm raised position from floor, there were significantly different in the changing patterns in the strengths of hip flexor between men and women (p>.05). Conclusion : The findings suggest that the pelvic compression belt is helpful in strengthening hip muscles. With easy application, it is sufficiently feasible for clinical use.
Background: While agility is a critical factor in the performance of sport in the court field, due to the diversity of agility occurrences, it is generally difficult to develop by strength and conditioning training. Previous study reported the correlation with the static balance and agility. However, the correlation between dynamic balance and agility is insufficient. It is necessary to study how static and dynamic balance affect agility respectively, for agility development. Design: Cross sectional correlational study design Methods: Twenty young women participated in the study. Three tests were used : one leg stance(static balance),Y-balance(dynamic balance), side-step(agility). One leg stance measured time, Y-balance measured distance, and side-step measured number of times. Correlation between balance and agility was used by Pearson Correlation. Results: One leg stance and side steps were shown to be not correlated. The Y balance and the side step showed with a moderate positive correlation. Conclusion: Agility is a decisive factor in fast-moving sports performance, which is generally difficult to improve with muscle strength and conditioning training. Since the correlation between dynamic balance and agility was found in this study, the importance of dynamic balance was found to improve agility to promote coordination.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a Health Maintenance Program on physical functions and mental health of the elderly in nursing homes. Method: Sixty elderly(over 65 years old) in a randomized control study participated in a 16-week group-based intervention including functional exercises and health education. The participants were divided into 3 groups(Health Maintenance Program Group, Supportive Music Exercise Group, and Control Group) of 20 elderly each. Data was collected from Dec. 1st, 2005 to Mar, 30th, 2006. Physical function of lower body strength was assessed using a 30-second chair test, flexibility was assessed using a sit-and-reach test, and static balance was assessed by the ability to balance on one leg with open and closed eyes. Depression was assessed using the Korean Form of the Geriatric Depression Scale and self esteem was assessed using Rosenberg's Self Esteem Questionnaire. Data was analyzed by Chi-square test, One-way ANOVA, and Repeated measure two factor analysis. Results: A Health Maintenance Program significantly increased muscle strength, flexibility and static balance, but depression and self-esteem scores were not significantly changed. Conclusion: Findings demonstrated that a Health Maintenance Program was more effective on physical function than mental health of the elderly in nursing homes.

This study was intended to investigate the proper shape and size of calcium carbonate for the improvement of paper properties and its end use performance. We loaded calcium carbonate of various shapes and size in the handsheet and measured their physical and optical properties. Results obtained from the study are summarized as follows : 1. Due to different particle shapes and sizes, precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) contributed greater to bulk improvement than ground calcium carbonate (GCC). Scalenohedral form of PCC produced the bulkiest sheet, GCC made the sheet bulkier as average particle size increases. 2. Tensile strength increased as average particle size was increasing. GCC kept tensile strength more effectively than PCC. The effect of particle size on tensile strength was much more pronounced as filler addition level was increasing. 3. Over the average particle size of 6.99$\mu$m, GCC gave much higher burst strength and internal bond than PCC did. In the filler levels of 20% and 30%, GCC by using bigger size fillers showed 50~100% improvement in some cases than PCC at the same filler content. 4. Tear strength increased as average particle size was increasing. At the filler level of 30%, PCC decreased tear greatly. 5. Over the average particle size of 13.56$\mu$m, GCC kept bending stiffness greater than PCC. Due to its shape, Scalenohedral form of PCC showed higher stiffness than others at the same particle size. 6. Cubic and acicular form of PCC improved light scattering coefficient very effectively. Light scattering coefficient of GCC decreased as average particle size increased. 7. Both of particle shape and size of filler were important factor in developing optical properties and bending stiffness. The purpose of this study is to investigate and reveal the effects that the complex exercise training consisting of aerobic exercise and strength training(sit up, push up) that everyone can easily practice regardless of a time and a place in order to manage practically the physical strength of the aged affects the difference on their body composition and the change of physical fitness level. Looking into the change of body composition of an experimental group, the weight of 2.5kg was reduced after applying complex training for 12 weeks and the body fat mass of 2.65kg was reduced. Also, the abdominal fat of 0.13% was decreased and the muscle mass of 1.56kg was increased. For the change factors of physical fitness, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, balance and flexibility excluding agility showed significant improvement after applying complex exercise training. The improvement of health fitness of the aged under this study was significantly effective to improve specified body functions which had been lowered by aging and insufficient physical activities. So, it is regarded that their health fitness is the important factor to improve the activity competence required for daily life and to lead healthy living by the improved activity competence. Henceforth, it needs to study more the complex composition of several sports, exercise intensity and the frequency based on the previous researches and studies. In addition, it needs to develop the complex exercise training in accordance with various characteristics such as a sex of the aged, an age, a physical fitness level, environment, a disease and the program in consideration of the efficacy and safety during training.

This article aims to determine the interrelation among exfoliation strength, the repeated laundry number, the coefficient of friction and the cover factor about the fusible interlining produced by using different amount resin. The practicality of stiffness and warmth of the fusible interling were examined. The results are summarized as follows: 1) As a factor that affecting the exfoliation strength of fusible interlining, the coefficient of friction and the cover factor about the fusible interlining produced by using different amount resin. (2) Regardless of the weight of the resin, the exfoliation strength of fusible interlining declined gradually as the repeated laundry number increased. This tendency arises much more in the case of the filament yarn fabric than in that of the spun yarn fabric. The stability of the exfoliation strength was better, regardless of the increase of the repeated laundry number, when the weight of the weight of the resin was 10 g/$m^2$. (3) The spun yarn fabric, which has more fuzz than the filament yarn fabric, is more suitable for the fabric of fusible interlining. The smaller the cover factor difference between the face cloth and the interlining cloth, the stronger the exfoliation strength. (4) When the stability of the shape is a necessary factor in the consumption of the fusible interlining, a resin weight of 20 g/$m^2$ is the most suitable; however when stiffness and warmth are necessary factors, a resin weight of 10 g/$m^2$ is the most suitable.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of visual and auditory stimulation on the ability to perform exercise. Methods: One hundred twenty subjects were randomly divided into four groups (Green light and Fast tempo music, GF; Green light and Slow tempo music, GS; Red light and Fast tempo music, RF; and Red light and Slow tempo music, RS). One of either two visual stimuli or one of two auditory stimuli were applied to each group. The experiment was conducted randomly twice in two environments: one had visual and auditory stimuli and one had no stimulation. Muscle strength, grip, endurance, quickness, agility, concentration, and balance were measured to determine the ability to perform exercise. Results: Significant differences were found in the muscle strength of the participants who were exposed to the auditory factor and the interaction of visual and auditory factors. In endurance, significant differences were found in all of the factors: visual, auditory, and the interaction of visual and auditory. In quickness, agility, and balance ability there were significant differences in the visual factor. In concentration, there was a significant difference in the auditory factor. Conclusion: Visual stimuli, auditory stimuli, and their interaction influenced the ability to perform exercise. These facts imply that providing the proper environmental stimulation is important to increase the ability to perform during exercise.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to examine the effects of motion taping on the effects of lumbar stabilization exercise. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 24 normal males with no problem in their nervous systems or musculoskeletal systems. The subjects were randomly assigned to a control group of 12 subjects and an experimental group of 12 subjects. The control group was applied with lumbar stabilization exercise while the experimental group was applied with lumbar stabilization exercise after being attached with tapes. The intervention period was four weeks in total and the subject underwent the exercises three times per week. The exercise time per session was set to one hour in principle consisting of warm-up exercise and cool-down exercise for 10 minutes each and main exercise for 40 minutes. Lumbar muscle strength was measured as a factor to examine the effects of lumbar stabilization exercises. RESULTS: The control group showed an increase in lumbar muscle strength from $111{\pm}6.30kg$ to $113{\pm}6.23kg$ and the experimental group showed an increase in lumbar muscle strength from $108{\pm}6.46kg$ to $116{\pm}5.21kg$. The increases shown by both groups were statistically significant and the experimental group that was applied with motion taping showed a larger increase in lumbar muscle strength compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Lumbar stabilization exercise is considered to be good for lumbar stability and muscle strengthening and lumbar stabilization exercise applied with motion taping is considered to show larger effects for muscle strengthening and the improvement of lumbar functions.

The above gauges were and its result found that the radish, potato, carrot and cucumber can influence to muscle strength was not true. 2. When the physical constitution is distinguished by the O-Ring Test method, Taeyangin's rate appeared as average 21% although it was insisted that there will be only 0.03-0.1%. This means that the physical constitution but it appears accidently according to the examinee's emotion about the material such as vegetable etc. as favor or unfavor. 3. It was found that the result of O-Ring Test is the same at any time and at any place was not true. there is no reemergence character. 4. The import of O-Ring Test mehtod to the physical discrimination disregarded that the mental factor influences absolutely to the physical heath in the ideological physi cal constitution medical science. 5. 'O-Ring Test method is a objective judgement method.' is wrong judgement. As you see on the above result, Bi-Digital O-Ring Test set the changeable voluntary muscle as the standard of the judgument, that was first mistake logically, second in spite of leass influence of mental influence by the examiner and examinee than the vegetable discrimination influence, the test disregarded the influence. Third, only grasp of some material on hand can influence to the voluntary muscle was a wrong theory disregarding the physiology. Finally the misunderstaning his subjective view as an objective view in spite of examiner and examinee's strong influence. Therefore such kind of physical descrimination method must be sublated.
Background: In Taekwondo athletes, ankle sprain is the most common risk factor for injury. Repeated ankle injuries lead to weakness and imbalance of the ankle muscles, resulting in chronic ankle instability (CAI). Both the ankle and toe muscles contribute to the inversion and eversion of the foot at the subtalar joint. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the ankle and toe joint positions when measuring ankle invertor and evertor strength. Objects: This study aimed to compare the muscle strength and ratio differences of the ankle invertor and evertor muscles in both the toe and ankle positions between the CAI and uninjured sides in Taekwondo athletes. Methods: Fifteen Taekwondo athletes participated in this study. The isometric strengths of both the ankle invertor and evertor were determined in different ankle and toe positions (dorsiflexion with toe extension, dorsiflexion with toe flexion, plantarflexion with toe extension, and plantarflexion with toe flexion). Paired t-tests were used to determine the differences between the ankle invertor and evertor in strength and ratio according to toe and ankle positions between the ankle CAI side and the uninjured side. Results: The results demonstrated that ankle evertor strength significantly decreased in all ankle and toe positions on the CAI side (p < 0.05). In addition, significant differences were observed in the ratios of the ankle invertor and evertor strengths in the dorsiflexion with toe flexion, plantarflexion with toe extension, and plantarflexion with toe flexion positions (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that athletes, trainers, and clinicians should consider ankle and toe positions when measuring invertor and evertor strength and develop ankle rehabilitation protocols for Taekwondo athletes with CAI.
