  • A 10-year-old castrated male papillon presented with nasal discharge, coughing and chronic dysphagia. On physical examination, the dog exhibited sneezing, gurgling and movement of the throat with repeated attempts to swallow fluids. A diagnosis of cricopharyngeal achalasia (CPA) was made based on video fluoroscopic demonstration of failure of relaxation of the upper esophageal sphincter. This report describes the diagnosis of CPA in an old dog, which is rarely diagnosed in older animals.

  • Following thesis is about comprehensive treatment of insomnia through stability of the autonomic nervous system. It is widely accepted that most of the relevant symptoms of insomnia can be blamed on successive instability of the autonomic nervous system. In order to treat insomnia effectively, it is essential to maintain stability in the autonomic nervous system. When one is at stable stage of the autonomic nervous system, one maintains steady hormonal discharge. In Oriental Medicine, it is the stage when one has a sound qi-blood circulation. To treat insomnia effectively, one has to obtain both physical and mental relaxation through various ways.

  • Rheological Properties of polypropylenes having different molecular structures (linear polypropylene (PPL) and branched one (PPB)) were studied. Both the extensional flow and oscillatory shear flow properties were checked. Especially, the melt strength of polypropylenes having various shear history were investigated by using in-house-made Rheometer (called SMER). Compared to linear polypropylene, the branched polypropylene shows enhanced melt strength during extensional flow due to the retarded relaxation of molecules. When the slope of melt tension was plotted against take up speed of melt strand, the characteristic peak was observed in case of branched polypropylene, while the linear polypropylene shows only monotonously decreasing pattern. This entanglement was partially disrupted by physical forces such as shear during melt extrusion. However, the melt strength of PPB after multiple extrusion is still higher than PPL, implying the loss of elasticity during multiple extrusion is not so comprehensive. On dynamic experiments, PPB shows typical shear thinning behavior and the tangent delta of PPB is lower than PPL, reflecting high elasticity of PPB.

  • The present study was undertaken to investigate the influence of eupatilin on vascular smooth muscle contractility and to determine the mechanism involved. Denuded aortic rings from male rats were used and isometric contractions were recorded and combined with molecular experiments. Eupatilin more significantly relaxed fluoride-induced vascular contraction than thromboxane $A_2$ or phorbol ester-induced contraction suggesting as a possible anti-hypertensive on the agonist-induced vascular contraction regardless of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis. Furthermore, eupatilin significantly inhibited fluoride-induced increases in pMYPT1 levels. On the other hand, it didn't significantly inhibit phorbol ester-induced increases in pERK1/2 levels suggesting the mechanism involving the primarily inhibition of Rho-kinase activity and the subsequent phosphorylation of MYPT1. This study provides evidence regarding the mechanism underlying the relaxation effect of eupatilin on agonist-induced vascular contraction regardless of endothelial function.

  • Physical properties of PVB [Poly(vinyl butyral)] polymer are strongly correlated with water contents in the polymer. Thus dynamics of PVB containing 10~50(w/w) % of water were studied by $^{13}$ C CP/MAS/DD over the temperature range 293K -348K. From the Peak area, line width, chemical shift, and relaxation times ( $T_{1}$ $T_{1p}$) measured at 9.4 T, it was deduced that water facilitates molecular dynamics of the PVB molecules overall including conformational exchange of the racemic and meso butyaldehyde rings in the PVB. However, the influence of water was not linear to the amount of water in the PVB samples. It is suggested that water up to 30 w/w % of the sample is closely bound to the PVB polymer and water relatively free from the PVB polymer starts to appear when water is added more than 30 w/w %.%.

  • In this study, the properties of Thermally Stimulated Current is measured automatic Data Acquisition System with a A/D Converter set. The A/D Converter set is configured with DIO 8255(Intel), AMD 9513 Timer/Counter and some Programed Controllers. Especially, the numerical method of asymtotic estimation to separate single relaxation curve and physical factors related to charged particles were obtained rapidely and completely. As a result, the data obtained by automatic Acquisition System need to be corrected to average value and the whole control and inspectation system is needed.

  • Molecular motion at the surface of monodisperse polystyrene (PS) films with various chain end groups was studied by scanning probe microscopy. Surface glass transition temperature ($T_{g^s}$) of the PS films was much lower than the corresponding bulk value. And, the magnitude of $T_{g^s}$ was strongly dependent on chain end chemistry. This result can be explained in terms of the chain end concentration at the surface. Time-temperature superposition principle was applied to rheological analysis at the surface. The apparent activation energy of the surface ${\alpha}_{a}$-relaxation process was approximately a half of that for the bulk sample. This result clearly indicates that the cooperativity for the surface segmental motion was reduced in comparison with that in the bulk region.

  • In this paper, evaluation of physical properties was made for dielectric relaxation phenomena by the detection of the surface pressures and displacements current on the monolayer films of fatty acid monomolecular Arachidic Acid, Stearic Acid using compressing velocity. LB(Langmuir-Blodgett) thin films were manufacture by detecting deposition for the accumulation and the current was measured after the electric bias was applied across the manufactured MIM device. The physicochemical properties of the fatty acid monomolecular Arachidic Acid, Stearic Acid films surface structure has been studied by AFM. We give pressure stimulation into organic thin films and then manufacture a device under the accumulation condition that the state surface pressure is gas state, liquid state, solid state. Formation that prevent when gas phase state and liquid phase state measure but could know organic matter that molecules form equal and stable film when molecules were not distributed evenly, and accumulated in solid state only.

  • In this study, soundscape was analyzed through physical measurement and social surveys. The results showed that, soundscape components were related to functional partitions and tourist activities, at the same time influenced by ambient noise. The sound pressure levels showed daily regular changes. Semantic differential analysis showed that the evaluation of the soundscape in urban park was rather complicated. It was still possible to identify major factors including relaxation, spatiality and environment. The results provided theoretical basis for improving urban park soundscape, and called attention to this problem.

  • Linear high-density polyethylene (PE) was controlled to induce strain-hardening behavior by introducing a small amount of second component with an anisotropic structure. In order to form an anisotropic structure in the PE matrix, the polymer was extruded through a twin-screw extruder, and the structure was controlled by varying the extrusion conditions. Depending on conditions, the second component formed a film, thread and droplet structure. If the second component was kept rigid, the morphology evolution could be delayed and the second component could maintain its film or thread structure without further relaxation. In particular, the second component of the thread structure made a physical network and gave rise to remarkable strain hardening behavior under high extension. This study suggests a new method that induces strain hardening behavior by introducing a physically networked second component into the linear polymer melt. This result is anticipated to improve the processibility of linear polymers especially when extensional flow is dominant, and to contribute to our understanding of strain hardening behavior.
