  • We designed a new meta-heuristic algorithm named Photon Search Algorithm (PSA) in this paper, which is motivated by photon properties in the field of physics. The physical knowledge involved in this paper includes three main concepts: Principle of Constancy of Light Velocity, Uncertainty Principle and Pauli Exclusion Principle. Based on these physical knowledges, we developed mathematical formulations and models of the proposed algorithm. Moreover, in order to confirm the convergence capability of the algorithm proposed, we compared it with 7 unimodal benchmark functions and 23 multimodal benchmark functions. Experimental results indicate that PSA has better global convergence and higher searching efficiency. Although the performance of the algorithm in solving the optimal solution of certain functions is slightly inferior to that of the existing heuristic algorithm, it is better than the existing algorithm in solving most functions. On balance, PSA has relatively better convergence performance than the existing metaheuristic algorithms.

  • We can consider the interconnection structure suing WDM from two different levels, physical and virtual topologies. In the virtual topology, various channels on physical links can be established between transmitters and the receivers of the nodes. It is important to design efficient virtual topologies, because they have a benefit of performance improvement in interconnection networks depending on traffic matrices without changing physical topologies. In this paper we suggest a way to design virtual topologies that minimize average packet delays for given traffic matrices using genetic algorithms.

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the most favorable processing method for soybean Dasik. Factors were kind of sugar (honey, syrup, oligo sugar), amount of sugar (50 g, 60 g, 70 g) and number of kneading (20 times, 30 times, 40 times). Physical characteristics were measured by moisture content, color difference and texture. Moisture content was increased in order of honey, oligo sugar and syrup. Lightness of soybean Dasik was different with amount of sugar. The tendency of L value and b value were dominent by honey. Lightness, redness and yellowness had no difference with the kind of sugar and number of kneading. Hardness was not a significant factor. Springiness was significantly different by the kind and amount of sugar. Cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness was influenced by the kind and amount of sugar, the interaction of kind and amount of sugar.

  • Recent research has shown that deep learning models are vulnerable to adversarial attacks not only in the digital but also in the physical domain. This becomes very critical for applications that have a very high safety concern, such as self-driving cars. In this study, we propose a physical adversarial attack technique for one of the common tasks in self-driving cars, namely segmentation of the urban scene. Our method can create a texture on a wall so that it can be misclassified as a road. The demonstration of the technique on a state-of-the-art cityscape pretrained model shows a fairly high success rate, which should raise awareness of more potential attacks in self-driving cars.

  • Antifouling paints that inhibit the attachment and contamination of marine organisms mainly use TBT compounds, but because of their toxic components, they cause ecosystem disturbance and environmental destruction problems, so It is necessary to research eco-friendly antifouling paints that are easy to maintain and effective antifouling technologies. In this study, physical surface treatment of silane coating and chemical antifouling technology were applied to the metal surface to secure the stability of the surface of the marine structure and inhibit the attachment and growth of marine organisms. Adhesion of marine organisms was evaluated according to the coating conditions through surface evaluation of the charged material for 15 months in the waters of the west coast of Korea. In accordance with ASTM D6990-05, antifouling properties fouling rates (FR) and physical degradation rates(PDR) were evaluated through visual inspection of the evaluation specimens. As a result of evaluating the antifouling performance of the coated surface, it was confirmed that the antifouling performance was maintained at the 50% level even after 15 months in the sample subjected to physical processing and silane coating.

  • A grid computing consists of the physical resources for processing one of the large-scale jobs. However, due to the recent trends of rapid growing data, the grid computing needs a parallel processing method to process the job. In general, each physical resource divides a requested large-scale task. And a processing time of the task varies with an efficiency and a distance of each resource. Even if some resource completes a job, the resource is standing by until every divided job is finished. When every resource finishes a processing, each resource starts a next job. Therefore, this paper proposes a dynamic resource reallocation scheduling model (DDRSM). DDRSM finds a waiting resource and reallocates an unfinished job with an efficiency and a distance of the resource. DDRSM is an efficient method for processing multiple large-scale jobs.

  • This paper describes the results of investigations comparing the relative in vitro responses of different signal processing algorithms for laser Doppler flowmetry(LDF) using self-mixing effect of laser diode(LD). A versatile laser Doppler system is described which enabled complex signal processing to be implemented relatively simply using digital analysis. The flexibility of the system allowed a variety of processing algorithms to be studied by simply characterising the algorithm of interest under software control using a personal computer. Two in-vitro physical models are also presented which was used to maintain reproducible fluid flows Flows of particles were studied in two physical models using a 780nm laser diode source. The results show that frequency weighted algorithms(first and second moments, rate to zero moment) are responsive to particle velocity more than concentration, whereas non-weighted algorithm (zero moment responds to concentration and velocity.

  • This study was performed to find potentialities of the leaves of gingko tree (Gingko biloba L.) as a raw material for particleboard (PB) manufacturing. Various amounts of the leaves were mixed with wasted wood particles to manufacture PB. Physical and mechanical properties, such as density, internal bond (IB) strength, and modulus of rupture (MOR) of manufactured PB were not much different from those of the control board. Formaldehyde emission values decreased with increasing the amount of leaves. Especially, the formaldehyde emission of PB made with 5 percent of leaves was decreased to 1.31 mg/l, which is about 36% lower emission than that of the control. From these results, the leaves of gingko tree may be considered as an additive of lowering formaldehyde emission in a functional PB manufacturing process.

  • This study was to determine the technical feasibility of using wastepaper fibers, obtained through dry processing of wastepaper, as reinforcement in thin cement produces. Dry-processed waste papers have high levels of noncellulosic impurities, and the recycling process also breads and damages the fibers. To produce wastepaper fiber-cement composites, first the influential variables in the slurry-dewatering method of processing the composites were identified in an experimental study based on factorial design. Among the proportioning and processing variables investigated, fiber mass fraction and level of substitution of virgin fibers with recycled ones were found to have statistically significant effects on mechanical and physical properties of composites. Subsequently, response surface analysis techniques were used to devise an experimental program that helped determine the optimum combinations of the selected influential variables based on mechanical and physical properties, and cost.
