  • There are increasing needs for welfare in industrial environments in modern society. Industrial health is one of the most important components of industrial welfare, and it includes maintenance and improvement of physical, mental, and social health of the workers, elimination of factors threatening workers, prevention and early intervention of industrial diseases. In this regards the importance of industrial physical therapy is increasingly recognized and the need of physical therapy in industrial field is increasing. The authors surveyed and analyzed the curricula of the departments of physical therapy to promote development of curriculum or program for educating specialized industrial physical therapists. There are 40 institutes opening the department of physical therapy, 4-year courses in 17 and 3-year courses in 23. Only 2 institutes have subjects that are directly related to industrial health. This means that specific educational program for specialized industrial physicaltherapists is not established yet though there are many needs for industrial health and physical therapy in industrial fields. But many topics or knowledge of industrial health or physical therapy are scattered in several subjects. So we suggest the needs of systematic reorganization of specific curriculum that including ergonomics and prevention and treatment of industrial diseases for education of specialized industrial physical therapist.

  • Dentists are known to be highly exposed to the musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). The present study investigated the prevalence of MSD among Korean dentists and association between their MSD and physical workload. In addition, work-related causes of high physical workload were identified and needs of dentists were collected for improvement of dental instrument and environment. Four types of questionnaires including the Nordic questionnaire were used to investigate body troubles, physical workload, causes of physical workload, and improvement priority of dental components. A total of 104 dentists in Seoul were participated in the survey. Neck trouble (82%) was the most prevalent in the participated dentists and shoulder (68%) and low back trouble (56%) followed, while low back trouble was reported to be most common in previous western studies. The body troubles were related to the physical workload of the corresponding body parts, although they were not associated with personal characteristics. Most dentists selected 'to keep direct view inside patient's mouth' and 'no support of the hand with dental instruments' as causes of awkward and strenuous work postures. They wanted design improvement for some components in their operating room such as operating light and arrangement of workplace.

  • The components affecting the extrinsic transconductance (gm_ext) in In0.7Ga0.3As quantum-well (QW) high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) on an InP substrate were investigated. First, comprehensive modeling, which only requires physical parameters, was used to explain both the intrinsic transconductance (gm_int) and the gm_ext of the devices. Two types of In0.7Ga0.3As QW HEMT were fabricated with gate lengths ranging from 10 ㎛ to sub-100 nm. These measured results were correlated with the modeling to describe the device behavior using analytical expressions. To study the effects of the components affecting gm_int, the proposed approach was extended to projection by changing the values of physical parameters, such as series resistances (RS and RD), apparent mobility (𝜇n_app), and saturation velocity (𝜈sat).

  • The dried cinnamon was extracted with water and 70% ethanol and studied for the several extraction conditions of temperature, time, solvent addition ratio and number of extraction on mineral components and physical properties of the extracts. Mineral components significantly increased as the extraction temperature increased. More than 8 hours of extraction showed a little improving while solvent ratio (V/W) up to 60 times (V/W) significantly increased the mineral components, particularly Cu, Zn, Fe, Na in water extracts and Fe, Mn, K in 70% ethanol extracts. Absorbance at 285 mm decreased as the temperature raised up to the range of $60{\sim}80^{\circ}C$. The Hunter a-value was much affected with extraction conditions and L-value and transmittance were changed similarily while pH was little changed.

  • This paper proposes a Ubiquitous Henhouse Monitoring System (UHMS) that can not only monitor henhouse's conditions and raising environments, but also control the henhouse remotely by using sensor network technology. The system consists of three layers. The physical layer connects sensors with facilities. The middleware layer processes and manages data collected from the physical layer. And the application layer provides the user with the user requested services. The system provides a real-time monitoring service, a facility controlling service, an expert service, a consumer safety service, and a mobile message service via interacting with components of each layer. Finally, a henhouse model is defined and the relevant system components and the application GUIs are implemented.

  • It is well known that metal cutting leaves a plastically deformed layer in the machined surface. This residual phenomenon affects in various forms the physical properties of machined components such as the fatigue strength, the dimensional instability, microcracks, and the stress corrosion cracking. These physical properties, so called surface integrity, are very important for designing highly stressed and critically loaded components. Typical plastic strains in the machined surface are very difficult to measure, since they are located within a very short distance from the surface and they change very rapidly. There is an alternative way to determine the residual strain in plastically deformed materials by measuring the grain size after a subsequent recrystallization process. Although, this technique has been successfully applied by several researchers to find the plastic zone around notches and cracks in various materials and welding beads, few works have been reported using the recrystallization method to determine the residual strains in machined surface. Therefore, the purpose of this investigation Is to explore the effectiveness of the recrystallization technique in machining applications, and in particular, to find the effect of cutting parameters, i.e., depth of cut and rake angle on the plastic strains.

  • The possible mechanisms of ginseng saponins on the inhibition of development of morphine tolerance and physical dependence were investigated in the aspects of morphine metabolism by morphine 6-dehydrogenase. Administration of morphine causes a reduction of non-protein sulfhydryl contents in liver, because morphinone is metabolized from morphine by morphine 6-dehydrogenase conjugates with sulfhydryl compounds. However, ginseng saponins inhibited the activity of morphine 6-dehydrogenase which catalized the production of morphinone from morphine. In addition, ginseng' saponins inhibited the reduction of non-protein sulfhydryl levels by Increasing the level of hepatic glutathione. These results suggest that the dual action of the above plays an important role in the inhibition of development of morphine tolerance and physical dependence. On the other hand, it was observed that less polar components of ginseng saponins with parent structures were more active components in vitro.

  • IPNs have interpenetrating motion and phase separation behavior of independent polymers, respectively, and also these are affected by the physical interaction of polymer components. First of all, 2- and 3-component IPNs based on PU are prepared by combination with two or three components of PU, PMMA, PS and epoxy resin. And then the entire physical properties concerning morphological and mechanical behaviors of these IPNs are measured by employing FT-IR, SEM, Rheovibron, and DSC, etc. Compared with pure component, Tg's of IPN are shifted to higher temperature in all IPN kinds, and these are considered in attribution to internal movement of glass transition temperature or partial phenomenon of interpenetration. Rheovibron measurement results in a broader distribution with peaks of tan${\delta}$ or E", and this morphologically represents a medium degree of partially mixed IPNs in confirmation of SEM photographs.
