This paper presents a real-time hand gesture recognition approach for controlling a computer. We define hand gestures as continuous hand postures and their movements for easy expression of various gestures and propose a Two-layered Bayesian Network (TBN) to recognize those gestures. The proposed method can compensate an incorrectly recognized hand posture and its location via the preceding and following information. In order to vertify the usefulness of the proposed method, we implemented a Virtual Mouse interface, the gesture-based interface of a physical mouse device. In experiments, the proposed method showed a recognition rate of 94.8% and 88.1% for a simple and cluttered background, respectively. This outperforms the previous HMM-based method, which had results of 92.4% and 83.3%, respectively, under the same conditions.

Human being recognizes the physical world by integrating a great variety of sensory inputs, the information acquired by their own action, and their knowledge of the world using hierarchically parallel-distributed mechanism. In this paper, authors propose the sensor fusion system that can recognize multiple 3D objects from 2D projection images and tactile informations. The proposed system focuses on improving recognition performance of 3D objects. Unlike the conventional object recognition system that uses image sensor alone, the proposed method uses tactual sensors in addition to visual sensor. Neural network is used to fuse the two sensory signals. Tactual signals are obtained from the reaction force of the pressure sensors at the fingertips when unknown objects are grasped by four-fingered robot hand. The experiment evaluates the recognition rate and the number of learning iterations of various objects. The merits of the proposed systems are not only the high performance of the learning ability but also the reliability of the system with tactual information for recognizing various objects even though the visual sensory signals get defects. The experimental results show that the proposed system can improve recognition rate and reduce teeming time. These results verify the effectiveness of the proposed sensor fusion system as recognition scheme for 3D objects.

Knowledge of the physical locations of access point of WLAN is becoming increasingly important with the rise of location-based services. In this article, we propose a new AP localization method using neural network approach. Basic theory and properties are derived for precise outdoor AP localization using GPS location information and RSSI. Rules for neural network model are derived and simulation has finally been done to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the proposed method can result in AP localization with very. low error probability.

The continuous increase in the cost of energy production and concerns for environmental sustainability are leading research communities, governments and industries to amass efforts to reduce energy consumption and global $CO_2$ footprint. Players in the information and communication industry are keen on reducing the operational expenditures (OpEx) and maintaining the profitability of cellular networks. Meanwhile, network virtualization has been proposed in this regard as the main enabler for 5G mobile cellular networks. In this paper, we propose a generic framework of slice resource provisioning and customized physical resource allocation for energy-efficiency and quality of service optimization. In resource slicing, we consider user demand and population resources provisioning scheme aiming to satisfy quality of service (QoS). In customized physical resource allocation, we formulate this problem with an integer non-linear programming model, which is solved by a heuristic algorithm based on minimum vertex coverage. The proposed algorithm is compared with the existing approaches, without consideration of slice resource constraints via system-level simulations. From the perspective of infrastructure providers, traffic is scheduled over a limited number of active small-cell base stations (sc-BSs) that significantly reduce the system energy consumption and improve the system's spectral efficiency. From the perspective of virtual network operators and mobile users, the proposed approach can guarantee QoS for mobile users and improve user satisfaction.

Latest technological innovation in the development of compact lower power radios has led to the explosion of Internet of Things. With Wi-Fi, Zigbee and other physical layer protocols offering short coverage area there was a need for a RF protocol that had a larger coverage area with low power consumption. LoRa offers Long Range with lower power consumption. LoRa offers point to point and point to multipoint connections. with Single hop communication in place the need for routing protocols are eliminated. LoRa Wide Area Network stack can accommodate thousands of nodes under a single LoRa gateway with a single hop communication between the end nodes and LoRaWAN gateway. This paper takes an experimental approach to analyze the basic physical layer parameters of LoRa and the practical coverage offered by a LoRaWAN under highly dense urban conditions with variable topography. The insights gained from the practical deployment of the LoRaWAN network, and the subsequent performance analysis is used to design a novel public utility monitoring platform. The second half of the papers is designing a robust platform to integrate both existing wired sensor water meters, current and future generation wireless water meters. The Common Automated Metering Platform is designed to integrate both wired sensors and wireless (LoRaWAN and Wi-Fi) supported water meters. This integrated platform reduces the number of nodes under each LoRaWAN gateway and thus improves the scalability of the network. This architecture is currently designed to accommodate one utility application but can be modified to integrate multi-utility applications.
The present study proposed a methodology to analyze the networking efficiency of arterial road networks. The methodology was motivated to design three-dimensional networks and to analyze the networking ability quantitatively, which is a novel approach compared to existing methods depending on the two-dimensional network definition and the qualitative analysis for improving arterial road networks. The method considered the interdependence between high-level freeways and low-level highways, the ITS-based information for traffic and road conditions, and the physical networking. These three factors were quantified by a networking index (NI), and the networking efficiency was measured by a networking rate (NR). The present study proved that the networking efficiency (NR) was influenced by travel information sharing (i.e., ITS) and physical factors. This supports the fact that the integrated improvements of physical and ITS factors are necessary for an arterial road. The proposed method was applied for an actual arterial road network. It was found that the nation-wide NR was higher than that for the metropolitan area, which might be due to the difficulty in switching between high- and low-level networks and the lack of ITS functions in the metropolitan area.
The development of wireless sensor networks (WSN) can be motivated by several types of applications. However, these applications demand an energy-efficient WSN that can prolong the network lifetime and can provide high throughput, low latency and delay. Designing wireless sensor networks with the capability of prolonging network lifetime catch the attention of many researchers in wireless system and network field. Contrasts with Mobile Ad Hoc Network system, Wireless Sensor Networks designs focused more on survivability of each node in the network instead of maximizing data throughput or minimizing end-to-end delay. In this paper, we will study part of data link layer in Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, called medium access control (MAC) layer. Since the MAC development of energy aware MAC Protocol for wireless sensor layer controls the physical radio part, it has a large impact on the overall energy consumption and the lifetime of a node. This paper proposes a analytical approach that tries to reduce idle energy consumption, and shows the increasement of network end-to-end arrival rate due to efficiency in energy consumption from time slot management.
In the cloud computing environment, servers and applications can be set up within minutes, and recovery in case of fail ures has also become easier. Particularly, using virtual servers in the cloud is not only convenient but also cost-effective compared to the traditional approach of setting up physical servers just for temporary services. However, most of the und erlying networks and security systems that serve as the foundation for such servers and applications are primarily hardwa re-based, posing challenges when it comes to implementing cloud virtualization. Even within the cloud, there is a growing need for virtualization-based security and protection measures for elements like networks and security infrastructure. This paper discusses research on enhancing the security of cloud networks using network virtualization technology. I configured a secure network by leveraging virtualization technology, creating virtual servers and networks to provide various security benefits. Link virtualization and router virtualization were implemented to enhance security, utilizing the capabilities of virt ualization technology. The application of virtual firewall functionality to the configured network allowed for the isolation of the network. It is expected that based on these results, there will be a contribution towards overcoming security vulnerabil ities in the virtualized environment and proposing a management strategy for establishing a secure network.

Recently, wireless networks are becoming an important infrastructure for the critical large-scale applications such as cyber-physical systems and next generation industrial automations. However, the fundamental performance uncertainty of wireless networks may incur the serious instability problem of the overall systems. This paper proposes the proactive network optimizer to guarantee the application demands without any real-time link monitoring information of the networks. In particularly, the proposed proactive optimizer is the cross-layer approach to jointly optimize the routing path and traffic distribution in order to guarantee the performance demand within a maximum k number of link faults. Through the simulations, the proposed proactive network optimizer provides better robustness than the traditional existing reactive networks. Furthermore, the proactive network does not expose to the major weakness of the reactive networks such as the performance degradation due to the erroneous link monitoring information and the network reconfiguration cost.
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices, using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions. WSNs face the critical challenge of sustaining long-term operation on limited battery energy. Coverage maintenance has been proposed as a promising approach to prolong network lifetime. Mobile sensors equipped with communication devices can be leveraged to overcome the coverage problem. In this paper, we propose a stepwise movement scheme using perimeter coverage property for the coverage maintenance problem. In our scheme, each sensor monitors neighboring dead nodes, determines vulnerable node (i.e. dead node which makes uncovered area), computes the center of uncovered area HC, and makes a coordinated stepwise movement to compensate the uncovered area. In our experimental results, our scheme shows at least 50 % decrease in the total moving distance which determines the energy efficiency of mobile sensor.
