  • This study was introduce to Manual Mobilization of the Extremity Joints of Freddy M. Kaltenborn(1989). Much of Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy is devoted to the evaluation and treatment of joint and related soft tissue disorders and one of the primary treatment methods is mobilization. When examination reveals joint dysfunction, especially decreased range of motion, joint mobilization techniques are often utilized. Kaltenborn's joint mobilization techniques are performed as passive examination or treatment movements by the therapist. There are three basic joint play movements: (1) traction, (2) compression, and (3) translatoric gliding. The purpose of joint mobilization is to restore normal, painless joint function. Mechanically, the goal is to restore joint play and thus normalize roll-gliding which occurs during active movements.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the VMO/VL ratio and onset timing using EMG biofeedback training over a 5-day period. Methods : Twenty-one healthy female college students with no known right knee musculoskeletal dysfunction were recruited this study. Muscle activity was measured by surface electromyography(Myosystem 1400A, Noraxon Inc., U.S.A). Statistical analysis was used two-way repeated ANOVA to know difference between the vastus lateralis and vastus medialis oblique onset timing differences, VMO/VL ratio. Results : Biofeedback training group significantly improved VMO/VL ratio and EMG activity of the vastus medialis oblique after intervention. Conclusion : These result indicate that biofeedback training on the vastus medialis oblique has effect on the VMO/VL ratio. EMG biofeedback can be recommended for the facilitation of VMO muscular recruitment.

Spinal cord dysfunction is often caused by the compression on spinal cord. The purpose of this report was to describe physical examination and the process of disorders on cervical spondylotic myelopathy(CSM). Methods : Three cases with cervical myelopathy were presented with magnetic resonance image(MRI), Nurick's grade and Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA) score. Results : This studies showed a variable clinical course with gradual neurological deterioration in two cases. but one case was improved by operation and a regular aerobic exercise. MRI, Nurick's grade, JOA score are a useful adjunct for CSM evaluation. Conclusion : The state of CSM is variable, which may affect conservative treatments and surgery. It is needed to be a carefull approach and studies for a conservative treatment and management on CSM.

  • A case of a 38 year-old woman with histrionic personality who had chronic epigastric pain, dyspepsia and alternating bowel habit for more than 10 years was presented in detail on its course of two times of admission and follow-up. The diagnosis was thought as psychophy-siological disorder or gastrointestinal motility disorder of undefined etiology rather than hypo-chondriasis or Briquet's syndrome. She was characterized by sustained illness behavior and combined several physical illnesses. i.e. tuberculosis. anemia and hepatic stone. These physical diseases led to a blurring of psychological and physical boundaries regarding symptom formation. The points on consultation from medical part to psychiatric department were discussed and the supposed causal mechanisms in non-organic functional gastrointestinal disturbances were also reviewed. Physical and psychological modalities for the treatment and the abnormal illness behavior were mainly emphasized in this case.

  • Consideration for therapy method and oral motor function character of children with cerebral palsy. Therapists who treat for feeding disorder children owing the regression of oral motor function are necessary to gain knowledge about dysfunction of sensing, perception and cognition with baffling to eat and inhibition of primitive reflex, oral anatomy and function, and motor control (trunk, head, positioning of the upper limbs and the lower limbs and muscle tone). Oral motor function program is a comprehensive rehabilitation program which requires systematized enforcement and collaborated attempts to physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychotherapists. Especially, physical therapists are not accustomed to oral motor program, hoping to provide diffusely and apply new therapy approach method for many areas (bell's palsy, respiratory failure, speech articulation). It will comprise to study owing to holistic approach with clinic.

  • MET is one of the few physical therapy having its own criteria. Mr. Holten approached the Norwegian Health Authority in 1967 to get his MET System recognized as a treatment method of its own. He was granted his approval for his exercise system's specivic criteria connecteed with the treatment method. In MET, the patient exercises himself without manual participation by physiotherapists, however, under continuous supervision.. The apparatus should be designed that functional quality (arthrogenous, circulatory, respiratory, neuromuscular) in question is optimally influenced when the patient carries out exercise in a certain range against a graded resistance. The therapy reassesses the scheme of treatment at least every fifth session and the maximum number of patients being 5 person per hour. The important principles in medical exercise Therapy are stabilization of hyperfunction through the system of autostabilization and mobilization of hypofunction through automobilization. In MET excrcises are adjusted to the patient's reactions. MET equipment is therefore made to meet requirements for treating patients with painful pathological dysfunction in the musculo-skeletal system.

  • A previously healthy 57-year-old woman with dyspnea and wheezing presented to the emergency department a few minutes after exposure to unknown gas from mixing bleach (sodium hypochlorite) and cleaning agent (hydrochloric acid) at work place. Initial physical examination revealed severe wheezing on both whole lung fields, but the chest radiograph was normal. Arterial blood gas analysis showed only moderate hypoxemia. The patient was treated with oxygen, $\beta$adrenergic bronchodilators, antihistamines and corticosteroids, after then symptoms were improved. And the patient discharged against medical advice. We report a rare case of reactive airways dysfuntion syndrome from chlorine gas exposure.
