The engine oil is an oil used for lubrication of various internal combustion engines. Recently, the vehicle and engine oil manufacture usually guarantee for oil change over 15000~20000 km mileage, but the most of driver usually change engine oil every 5000 km driving in Korea. In this case, it is possible to cause environmental contamination by used engine oil and increase the cost of driving by frequently oil change. In this study, we investigate the various physical properties such as flash point, pour point, kinematic viscosity, cold cranking simulator, total acid number, and four-ball test for fresh engine oil and used engine oil after vehicle driving (5000 km, 10000 km). The test result showed that the total acid number and wear scar by four-ball test of used engine oil had increased than fresh engine oil, but 2 kind of used oil (5000 km and 10000 km) had similar physical properties.
Background: The purpose of this study was to confirm the effect of bridge exercise combined with vibration on abdominal muscle thickness. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: As study subjects, 24 adults in their 20s were classified into 12 vibration bridge exercise groups and 12 bridge exercise groups. The time was divided into before the experiment, 3 weeks after the experiment, and 6 weeks after the experiment. Two-way repeated ANOVA was used to examine changes in the muscle thickness of the external oblique, internal oblique, and transverse abdominal muscles of the trunk muscles, and the significance level was set at 0.05. If there was an interaction between time and group, post-hoc analysis was performed, and the significance level was set at 0.01. Results: There was a significant difference in the external oblique muscle in the change by period, the interaction between time and group, and the change between groups (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in the external oblique muscle in the change by period, the interaction between time and group, and the change between groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result of this study, bridge exercise combined with vibration had a positive effect on the muscle thickness of the external oblique, internal oblique, and transversus abdominis muscles. It suggests the possibility of using the basic data of vibration exercise and the lumbar stabilization exercise in clinical practice.
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of motor function recovery and change of the heart function factors(ECG & Troponin I) with ischemic stroke patients by different amounts(times) exercise. Methods : Forty-six consecutive chronic hemiparetic patients with cerebral infarct were randomly assigned to two groups: Group 1 (exercise time 60 minutes/day) and Group 2 (exercise time 120 minutes/day). Types of exercise included static bicycle, isokinetic exercise, and standing or gait exercise on a treadmill. Outcome measures included the level of motor recovery (Fugl-Meyer Scale, FMS) and heart function (ECG and Troponin I), and measurements were performed three times: pre-test, 8 weeks and 12 weeks. Results : There was a significantly different change of motor function recovery and ECG between two groups during treatment period. Especially there were significantly change period of pre-test to 8 weeks on ECG and pre-test to 12 weeks on motor function recovery. But Troponin I has no significantly different change between two groups during treatment period. Also there was no significantly different change of motor function recovery and ECG and Troponin I with between two groups during treatment period. Conclusion : The exercise program improved motor function and change ECG without Troponin I in two groups. The result of this study shows that no matter how different amounts of exercise to effect of motor function recovery and heart function test in chronic patients with cerebral infarct.
Purpose: This study examined the influencing factors from the Transtheoretical Model on the stage of change in the self-management behaviors, i.e. regular physical activity and diet, among community-residing adults with hypertension in a rural area. Methods: With a cross-sectional descriptive design, 134 adults who had registered and received a prescription for hypertension medication from a public health center in W city were recruited using convenient sampling. The instrument was an interviewer-administered questionnaire on the stage of change, process of change, self-efficacy, and decisional balance of physical activity and diet. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, 2-sample t-test, ${\chi}^2$ test, and logistic regression. Results: The results revealed significant differences in the process of change, self-efficacy, and decisional balance of physical activity and diet between those who were in the pre-execution stage (precontemplation, contemplation, preparation) and those who were in the execution stage (action and maintenance). Logistic regression showed that consciousness raising and self-efficacy were significant predictors of the execution stage in physical activity, and self-reevaluation, social liberation and self-efficacy were significant predictors in the diet. Conclusion: The relevant processes of change, differentiated according to the stage of change, along with self-efficacy, should be addressed to enhance the execution of self-management behaviors among hypertensive adults residing in the community.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of weight shift training with Hula Hoop on weight shift change and gait in stroke patients. METHODS: Ten stroke patients were enrolled in this study, and randomly divided into 2 groups. The study group underwent weight shift training with Hula Hoop, while the control group received general physical therapy that included weight shift training. All the studies were performed over a period of 4 weeks. Before and after the intervention, plantar pressure and performance in the 10 m walk test (10MWT) were assessed. Wilcoxon signed ranks test was used to compare the change from before to after the intervention in each group. The differences between the study and control groups were analyzed by using the Mann-Whitney test. RESULTS: After 4 weeks of intervention, the change in weight shift and performance in the 10MWT from before to after the experiment showed no statistical significance (p>.05). In addition, the comparison between the groups showed no significance in terms of weight-shift change, and performance in the 10MWT (p>.05). CONCLUSION: Although the difference was not statistically significant, the degree of improvement was similar to that attained with the conventional exercise treatment related to weight- shift training. During the course of the treatment, the patients received feedback through repeated training by themselves. Weight-shift training with Hula Hoop would be effective in improving the walking ability and weight-shifting on the paralyzed side of stroke patients. In the future, the effectiveness of this training would need to be validated.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to offer clinical primary data that it's aims to examine effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on cognitive function and biochemical change of rat with alzheimer's disease(AD) induced by injecting scopolamine. Methods: Subjects were instructed cognitive dysfunction model, rat of Sprague-Dawley system was injected with scopolamine and each experimental group was classified into three; group I (n=16) is non-treatment groups; group II (n=16) is applied with the tacrine; group III (n=16) is applied with the tDCS. The ziggurat task test was conducted to observe behavioral changes and cognitive function ability and 7, 14, 21, 28 days after the model. Acetylcholine Esterase (Ach E) activity was examined for biochemical assessment of which the results are followed. Results: Participants showed as to behavioral change, tacrine application group was the most significantly responded, following tDCS application group. As to biochemical change, same as above, tacrine application group was the most significantly responded, following tDCS application group. Conclusion: From these results, confirm that tDCS application to rat with alzheimer's disease leads to positive effects on behavioral, cognitive function changes, and biochemical changes, lasting for certain period of time. This study, in particular, tDCS, which can change excitability of brain cells non-invasively, could provide basic data that is useful as a new treatment way for the patients with cognitive dysfunction.
PURPOSE: This examined the effects of a sling exercise based on music on the cognition, physical performance of patients with dementia. METHODS: Thirty subjects with dementia volunteered to participate in this study. All subjects were allocated randomly to either the experimental group or control group, with 15 subjects in each group. All subjects underwent the exercise program for an average of 60 minutes per day for 16 weeks. The experimental group performed sling exercise based on music, and the control group performed the general exercise program. Assessments were made using the Korean version of mini-mental state examination (MMSE-K), 10 m walk test (10MWT), Tinetti mobility test (TMT), and Katz's Index of Independence in activity daily living (KIIADL) to detect changes in the cognitive level and physical performance before and after the 16-week training period. A paired t-test was conducted to compare the within-group change before and after the intervention. An independent t-test was performed to compare the between-group difference. The statistical significance level was set to α=.05 for all variables. RESULTS: The experimental group showed significant within-group changes in the MMSE-K, 10MWT, TMT, and KIIADL (p<.05). The control group showed a significant change in only the KIIADL (p<.05). A significant difference was observed between the experimental group and the control group regarding the change in MMSE-K and KIIADL after the interventions (p<.05). CONCLUSION: A music-based sling exercise program effectively improves cognition, physical performance, and ADL in patients with dementia. Further studies with a wider range of subjects and scientific equipment will be needed to strengthen the results of this study.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find the effects of the lumbar stabilization exercise and strength exercise on pain, ROM, strength, muscle thickness of low back pain(LBP) patients. Method : The subjects were consisted of twelve patients who had nonspecific LBP. All subjects randomly assigned to lumbar stabilization exercise group(N=6) and strength exercise group(N=6). We measured muscular strength, ROM by using Tergumed-extension, rotation and muscle thickness by using ultrasonography and pain score by using Visual analog scale(VAS). The lumbar stabilization exercise group received TOGU exercise, strength exercise group received Tergumed exercise. The data analyzed by repeated measure of Independent t-test, paired t-test, reliability test. Result : The results were as follows. The result which measured of the change of pain score was a significant decrease. The result which measured of the change of ROM and strength was a significant increase. The result which measured of the change of the Internal abdominal oblique, External abdominal oblique on muscle thickness was a significant increase. Stabilization exercise group and Strength exercise group showed the significant difference in muscle thickness on Transversus abdominis, Multifidus. Stabilization exercise group was more increased in muscle thickness. Conclusion : Therefore, we suggest that stabilization exercise is effective for non-specific low back pain.
Purpose : The study was designed to identify the change of body alignment according to surface during walking with backpack. Methods : Healthy twenty people(10 men & 10 women) participated in this study. The exclusion criteria were orthopedic and neurologic disease. Initial alignment measurements were performed. Results were evaluated by angle and range from earlobe to acromion, acromion to malleolus and earlobe to malleolus in the GPS system. Results : On the hard surface, the distance and angle from malleolus to earlobe increased after walking with backpack which is 20 % of weight(p<.05). In addition the distance from malleolus to acromion and the angle from earlobe to acromion increased(p<.05). On the soft surface, on the other hand, the distance and angle from malleolus to earlobe decreased after walking with backpack which is 20 % of weight(p<.05). There was no relationship between the change of the surface and the body's alignment(p>.05). Conclusion : Consequently, the body alignment was changed by backpack which is 20 % of weight, but body alignment wasn't changed by the surface. So more study need to be surveyed regard of this.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of various bridge exercises on walking ability. Method: The subjects were 30 stroke patients. They were divided into a bridge exercise group on a stable support surface (Group I), a bridge exercise group on an unstable support surface (Group II), and a bridge exercise group combined with whole body vibrations (Group III). 10 subjects were randomly assigned into each group.
