The transition to renewable energy, especially the expansion of photovoltaic (PV) generation, has become a global megatrend that can no longer be reserved. However, since the site for PV is limited, it is necessary to use the land efficiently. As an alternative, the concept of utility scale agricultural PV(UAPV) is a technology that continues farming in the lower part and installs PV in the upper part of farmland to efficiently use the land. Therefore, for UAPV, the growth of crops in the lower part and the optimal operation of PV in the upper part are important. In this, we analyze the characteristics of the upper PV generation system in the UAPV based on the empirical results under various conditions, and propose future research directions of the UAPV.
In this paper, a novel utility connected photovoltaic power generation system with unity power factor and uninterruptable power system facility and its control strategy are proposed. The proposed photovoltaic(PV) system is connected in parallel between utility and load. The PV system provides an uninterruptable voltage to load, a maximum power tracking to solar array, and power factor correction to the utility. The proposed system has the following advantages compared with the conventional utility connected PV system. 1. Harmonic elimination Function 2. Feeding the photovoltaic energy to the utility 3. Providing the uninterruptible power source along battery to the load In case that the photovoltaic array system is on the poor power generation, the battery and capacitor of the PV system are charged by three phase utility source and the inverter in the PV system only provides the reactive current to eliminate the harmonic current exited on the utility. In the normal operation mode, the PV system supplies active power to load and reactive power to utility in order to maintain the unity power factor and to regulate ac load voltage.

The economic feasibility of a photovoltaic (PV) system is greatly influenced by the initial investment cost for system installation. Also, electricity generation by PV system is highly important. The profits competitiveness of PV system will be maximized through intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M). Here, we developed a microconverter which can maximize electricity generation from PV modules by tracking the maximum power point of PV modules, and help efficient O&M. Also, the microconverter mitigates current mismatch caused by shading, hence maximize power generation. The microconverters were installed PV modules and demonstrated through the field tests. Power outputs such as voltage, string current were measured with variuos weather environments and partial shadings. We found that PV modules with the microconvertors shows 12.05% higher power generation compared to the reference PV modules.

Wind power and photovoltaic(PV) generation systems are the fastest growing sources of renewable energy. The nonlinear devices, such as power electronic converter or inverter, of wind power and PV generation systems are the source of harmonics in power systems. The harmonic-related problems can have significant detrimental effects in the power system, such as capacitor heating, data communication interference, rotating equipment heating, transformer heating, relay misoperation and switchgear failure. There is a greater need for harmonic analysis that can properly maintain the power quality. By measuring harmonics of existing wind power and PV generation systems as harmonics modeling, the studies were made to see the harmonic impact of grid-connected wind power and PV generation systems.

Photovoltaic(PV) system is one of power generation systems. Solar light in PV system is like the fuel of the car. The quantity of electricity generation, therefore, is fully dependent on the available quantity of solar light on the system of each site. If a utility can predict the solar power generation on a planned site, it may be possible to set up an appropriate PV system there. It may be also possible to objectively evaluate the performances of existing solar systems. Based on the theories of astronomy and meteorology, in this paper, Perez model is simulated to estimate the available quantity of solar lights on the prevailed photovoltaic systems. Consequently the conditions for optimal power generation of each PV system can be analyzed. And the maximum quantity of power generation of each system can be also estimated by applying assumed efficiency of PV system. Perez model is simulated in this paper, and the result is compared with the data of the same model of Meteonorm. Simulated site is Daejeon, Korea with typical meteorological year(TMY) data of 1991~2010.
In order to increase the power generation efficiency of the photovoltaic system, a new algorithm that can follow the maximum power point of the photovoltaic power generation system having nonlinear output characteristics is proposed. Conventional maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms such as Perturbation and Observation (P&O) and InCond (Increment and Conductance) schemes can not find the global maximum power point at a plurality of pole points in the unmatched state of unbalanced PV modules. However, even if the global maximum power point is found at a plurality of pole points, the global maximum power that can not be the real maximum power by the photovoltaic generation system. In order to solve this problem, a few PV companies propose installing several small PV inverters instead of if big one. However, since this will require additional costs, we herein propose a Multi-MPPT system using individual 3-point MPPT to track true MPPT at a plurality of pole points in the unmatched state of unbalanced PV modules.

During the initial design stage of apartment complex, the photovoltaic(PV) system has been considered as an alternative of renewable energy system and planned to install at the rooftop floor level in general. The electric power generation characteristics can be influenced by the block layout, building orientation and roof top structure because of azimuth angle, tilt angle, and partial shading. This study aims to investigate power generation characteristics of photovoltaic system in apartment buildings by considering the partial shading conditions due to the block layout, building orientation and roof-top structures. For the photovoltaic module arrangement planning in rooftop floor level, shading areas were firstly analyzed due to the adjacent building structure. And the annual and seasonal power generation of PV system were analyzed through the PVsyst simulation results. The results show that shading period at the roof top surface can be increased due to the parapet and water tank. Initial design power capacity can be decreased by considering the daily insolation period and distance between PV modules through the shading simulation. As the number of PV modules decreases, the annual power generation can be decreased. However annual power generation per unit area of PV modules can be increased and performance ratio can be increased above 80%. Also the power generation of PV system can be critically affected by building orientation and the performance ratio can be drastically decreased in east-oriented buildings due to the shading problems caused by adjacent structures at roof top level such as parapet and water tank.

In this paper, based on MATLAB which has characteristic that is simply applied to control algorithm and source modeling, photovoltaic modeling is implemented. Photovoltaic modeling is similarly performed PV array and simulated. Also, in order to output maximum power of PV, MPPT control is simulated. Moreover, simulation of converter is performed by means of PLECS (Piece wise Linear Electrical Simulation) which is easily made schematic of power electronics. Also, we compare simulation results and Sharp PV module and Suntech PV module. Finally, informative simulation of PV generation system is provided.

The output power of photovoltaic(PV) generation system is strongly affected by weather conditions. To make up for the defect of solar energy, energy storages such as battery and electrolyzer are usually integrated with photovoltaic cell. This paper focuses on the way to store energy surplus with battery and electrolyzer and to provide energy with battery. Photovoltaic generation system is modeled with PV cell, DC/DC converter, DC/AC inverter, battery and electrolyzer. The operation algorithm to regulate PV output power with battery and electrolyzer is suggested. The simulation results show that battery and electrolyzer effectively cooperate with each other to compensate the fluctuation of PV generation system.

PV module power is calculated on PV module surface temperature adjustment by irradiation on the summer and autumn in NOCT(Nominal Operating Cell Temperature) conditions. The summer and autumn periods were selected because of large variation in outdoor air temperature and irradiation. This study was performed to understand relationship between PV module surface temperature and photovoltaic power using field measurement. As a results, it was determined that the amount of irradiation was proportional to the amount of photovoltaic power in the field measurement. However, it was also identified that the PV power generation decreased by increased PV module surface temperatures due to irradiation.
