  • The mixed ferrite $V_xFe_{3-x}O_4$(x=0.0, 0.15, 0.5, 1.0) thin films were prepared by sol-gel method. Their crystallographic and magnetic hyperfine properties have been studied using X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and conversion electron $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy(CEMS). The crystal structure is found to be cubic spinel throughout the series($x{\leq}1.0$), and the lattice parameter $a_0$ increases linearly with increasing V content. XRD, XSP and CEMS indicate that $V^{3+}$ substitution for $Fe^{3+}$ in B-site is superior to $V^{2+}$ substitution for $Fe^{2+}$ in B-site. It is noticeable that both quadrupole shift and hyperfine field decreases with increasing V composition, suggesting the change of local symmetry and accompanying line-broadening. The line-broadening on CEMS spectra can be explained by the distribution of magnetic hyperfine fields.

  • From a practical viewpoint, the topic of electrical stability in oxide thin-film transistors (TFTs) has attracted strong interest from researchers. Positive bias stress and constant current stress tests on indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (IGZO)-TFTs have revealed that an IGZO-TFT with a larger Ga portion has stronger stability, which is closely related with the strong binding of O atoms, as determined from an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis.

  • Whiskers of SiC were grown from the mixture of silica and graphite powders by Acheson method(direct heating method). The structrua, morphological and chemical characterizations have been performed by X-ray diffractometer(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), optical microscopy(OM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS). The growth mechanism of SiC whiskers is also discussed.

  • The MgO protective layer of PDP has a strong influence on address delay. The relation, however, is not clearly understood due to the difficulty of analysis which is caused by surface charging. This paper suggests a way to avoid the charging problem and shows the correlation between workfunction measured by UPS and address delay.

  • The effects of plasma treatment on the surfaces of the FR-4 (Flame Resistant-4) and copper substrates are investigated in terms of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), contact angle, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The adhesion strengths of the underfills/FR-4 substrate and underfills/copper substrate are also studied. As experimental results, the plasma treatments of FR-4 and copper substrate surfaces yield several oxygen complexes in hydrophilic surfaces, which can play an important role in increasing the surface polarity, wettability, and adhesion characteristics of the underfills/substrates.

  • Heteroatom phosphorous-doped graphene aerogel (PGA) with high surface area is successfully synthesized via hydrothermal method for high power and energy supercapacitors, including the advantage of three dimensional internetwork and constitutive graphene skeletons. The morphology of PGA was investigated by the scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope. The chemical structure and circumstances were confirmed by Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the phosphorus is successfully incorporated with the graphene sheets. As evidenced by electrochemical measurements, cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge discharge, the hierarchically PGA has an unprecedented high capacitance, which contributes to the excellent high-rate performance of this material for supercapacitor application.

  • Metal oxide nanostructures have been applied to various fields such as energy, catalysts and electronics. We have freely designed one and two-dimensional (1 and 2-D) metal (transition metals and lanthanides) oxide nanostructures, characterized them using various techniques including scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction crystallography, thermogravimetric analysis, FT-IR, UV-visible-NIR absorption, Raman, photoluminescence, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed thermal desorption (reaction) mass spectrometry. In addition, Ag- and Au-doped metal oxides will be discussed in this talk.
