The experiment was conducted to investigate accumulation o( phosphate in tobacco production area. The results are as follows: 1) The content of available P in burley production area was about 200ppm higher than that in flue-cured tobacco production area, the available P content of 20% tobacco fields surveyed was above 1000ppm P. 2) Tobacco fields having 200ppm of available P which were grouped as medium category for phosphate recommendation were more than 90% out of tobacco fields surveyed. 3) Total phosphate content was above 4000ppm in 42.5% burley tobacco fields before transplanting, and 2000~3000ppm in about 40% flue-cured tobacco fields. 4) Phosphate fractions in soil increased in order of Al-P > Fe-P > Ca-p, and their content was about 50% of total phosphate in tobacco fields surveyed. 5) pH value in most of tobacco fields surveyed ranged from 4.5 to 5.0 and, field soils with pH value below 5.5 were 64 %.
In order to observe the phosphate metabolism in chloroplast, the contents of inorganic phosphate and various compounds in chloroplast from spinach leaf tissues were investigated during the reaction in the light and dark in the reaction mixture and the turnover of phosphate in chloroplast was compared with that of whole cell system: 1. The phosphorus of DNA in chloroplast appears to be transferred from inorganic phosphate, while in whole cell system from phosphate pool. 2. $^{32}P-phosphate$ content of acid soluble fraction in chloroplast as well as in whole cell system was more increased in the light than dark during the reaction. It was noted to be caused by the stimulation of sugar phosphate synthesis in the light. 3. It was confirmed that polyphosphate exists in chloroplast as well as whole cell. Acid insoluble polyphosphate content in whole cell system was significantly decreased during the reaction and the similar tendency was also observed in chloroplst. It is, therefore, considered that acid insoluble polyphosphate also play an most important role as a phosphate pool respectively in chloroplast and in cytoplasm. 4. Protein and lipid phosphorus in chloroplast as well as whole cell system were transferred from acid insoluble polyphosphate.

This study was carried out to determine the effects of lime(0, 300 kg/lOa) and phosphate application( 0, 20, 40, 80 kg/lOa) on mineral contents in herbage when 5 pasture species(orchardgrass, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, redtop and ladino clover) were grown in pot of black(B) and very dark brown (VDB) volcanic ash soil of Cheju island, respectively. P content of orchardgrass and perennial ryegrass were higher in VDB than in B (P<0.01), but other grasses were not different between two soil types. Also, Ca and Mg contents of ladino clover were higher in VDB than in B, but other grasses were not different between two soil types. P and K contents were not affected by lime but Ca and Mg contents were increased by lime application in most of the pasture species. P, Ca, Mg and Na contents of all pasture spesies were increased by phosphate application(P< 0.Ol)except for Ca content of tall fescue. K and Fe content were decreased, with increasing phosphate application but Zn content was not changed by phosphate application.

This research was performed to check the transport characteristics of heavy metals in contaminated soil, that is, the influence of humic acid and phosphate on transport characteristics of heavy metals was studied. From the results of column mode experiments about heavy metal behavior, the order time to reach breakthrough and equilibrium was soil + humic acid( 20g ) > soil + humic acid ( 5 g ) > soil without Humic acid addition > soil+humic acid( 50g ). It is because the dissolved organic carbon content increased as the soil organic matter content increased. As the phosphate increased, so did the time to reach breakthrough and equilibrium. The order of time was soil + phosphate( 50 mg ) > soil + phosphate( 20 mg ) > soil . phosphate( 10 mg ) > soil without phosphate addition. It is because the phosphate ion worked as alkalinity donor and the calcium ion co-injected worked as the accelerator of coprecipitation of heavy metals.

The experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of phosphate fertilizer level on growth, crude protein content and nitrogen fixation ability of alfalfa(Medicugo sariva L.) at sowing year. The experimental field was conducted using a randomized block design with three replications according to the phosphate application level (200 and 400kfia) in farm of Kongju National University. Research samples were collected at intervals of 7 days from October 7 to December 9 and nitrogen fixation activity of nodule was measured by using the acetylene reduction method (Hardy et al. 1968). The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. Number of branches, root length and dry matter weight at phosphate fertilizer level of 400kg in sowing year were more increase than those of 200kfia. The number of nodules was not significantly difference between phosphate fertilizer level, because of low temperature to be enough to nodulation of alfalfa. 2. The crude protein content of leaf, stem and root were not significantly affected by the phosphate fertilizer level. but that of leaf was increased at 400kgha on 72 days after sowing. The crude protein content of each part according to growing stages was increased at 44 days and 72 days after sowing. 3. The dry weight of root was not significantly difference between phosphate fertilizer level from 30 days to 51 days after sowing, but that was increased at phosphate fertilizer level of 400kgha from 51 days afier sowing. 4. The amount of ethylene in the samples taken 2 hours and calculated amount of nitrogen fixation were increased at phosphate fertilizer level of 400kfia from 30 days to 65 days after sowing. but there was vice versa from 58 days after sowing.
Plants response to phosphate starvation include the changes of activity of some enzymes, such as phosphatases, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, sucrose-phosphate synthase and nitrate reductase. In this study, to determine the effects of phosphate starvation on the change of activities of acid and alkaline phosphatase, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, sucrose-phosphate synthase, and nitrate reductase were studied in melon seedlings (Cucumis melo L.). The content of the protein and chlorophyll tended to relatively reduced in melon seedlings subjected to phosphate starvation. Acid phosphatase activity in first and second leaves of melon seedlings was relatively higher than that of third and fourth leaves of seedlings in 14 days after phosphate starvation treatment, respectively. Active native-PAGE band patterns of acid phosphatase in melon leaves showed similar to activities of acid phosphatase, whereas alkaline phosphatase activity was different from the change in the activity of acid phosphatase. Inorganic phosphate content in melon seedlings leaves was constant. The changes of Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase and sucrose phosphate synthase activities showed similar patterns in melon seedlings leaves, and between these enzymes activities and phosphate nutrition negatively related. Fructose-1,6- bisphosphatase and sucrose phosphate synthase activities showed significant difference in second and fourth leaves, but nitrate reductase showed significant difference in first and second leaves in 14days after phosphate starvation treatment. We concluded that phosphate nutrition could affect the distribution of phosphate, carbon and nitrogen in melon seedlings.

In this study, we have synthesized waterborne polyurethane dispersion(WPU) and analyzed mechanical properties of WPU film and leather coatings in different content of monoammonium phosphate. According to the measured data by DSC, sample WPU-AM3 which included high content of monoammonium phosphate showed the highest Tm at $382^{\circ}C$. All samples had good solvent resistance. In tensile tests, WPU-AM3($2.130kg_f/mm^2$) had the lowest physical properties. Also abrasion resistance properteis and elongation properties were investigated, WPU-AM3 had lowest physical properties with 52.07 mg.loss for abraison and 615 % of elongation.

Steel used for various industrial fields including ammunition is vulnerable to corrosion so surface treatments are required such as plating, painting and chemical conversion coating. Zinc phosphate, used for ammunition manufacturing, is used to stick the stable compound on the surface by chemical conversion of metal. The quality of phosphate coating depends on many factors such as total acidity and iron content. In this study, we studied the influence of total acidity and iron content on coating weight and corrosion resistance of phosphate coating. The surface structure of the coating becomes dense and corrosion resistance is improved with increasing iron content. However, total acidity influences only the thickness and phosphate coating weight. In conclusion, this study suggests the optimal range of total acidity and iron content to manufacture the ammunition.
Yung Nok Lee (Dept. of Biology, Korea University) : Studies on the phosphate metabolism in Chlorella, with special reference to polyphosphate. Kor. J. Microbiol., Vol.2, No.1, p1-11 (1964). 1. Uniformly $^{32}P$-labeled Chlorella cells which were irradiated with Cobalt-60 gamma-rays of about 70, 000 $\gamma$ dose, were further grown in a standard "cold" medium ("hot".rarw."cold"), and some portions of the algae were taken out at the begining of, and at intervals during the culture, and subjected to analyze the contents of $^{32}P$- and total P in various fractions of the cell materials. Results obtained were compared with those of nonirradiated normal cells. 2. Amounts of phosphate in various fractions of the nonirradiated normal Chlorella cells were measured using uniformly $^{32}P$--labeled cells. Analysis of the $^{32}P$--labeled algal cells showed that the highest value in P-content was the fraction of RNA followed by those of lipid, polyphosphate "C" polyphosphate "B", DNA, nucleotidic labile phosphate compounds, polyphosphate "A" and protein. It was observed that content of total polyphosphates in a single Chlorella cell was almost equal to RNA-P content in the cell, and the amount of RNA-P was almost equal to ten times of DNA-P content. 3. When the $^{32}P$--labeled algae which were irradiated with gamma-rays were grown in a normal "cold" medium, phosphate contents in the fraction of DNA, nucleotidic labile phosphate compounds and protein decreased markedly, while the contents of phosphate in the fractions of polyphosphate "C" and potyphosphate "B" increased in comparison with those of unirradiated normal cells. So, it was considered that the pretreatment of above mentioned dose of gamma-ray inhibited DNA and protein synthesis from polyphosphate in Chlorella cells. 4. Proceeding the culture of $^{32}P$--labeled Chlorella in a "cold" standard medium, whose synthetic activity of DNA and protein from polyphosphate was disturded by gamma-ray irradiation, the amounts of $^{32}P$-in the fraction of polyphosphate "C" increased, in contrast with those of polyphosphate "B" fraction. According to these experimental results, it was inferred that polyphosphate "B" could transform into polyphosphate "C" in normal growing Chlorella cells.sults, it was inferred that polyphosphate "B" could transform into polyphosphate "C" in normal growing Chlorella cells.ing Chlorella cells.
Soil $NH_4$-N content became higher in proportion to the increase in the urea application rate, while in livestock faeces compost (LFC) plots, it became lower than in urea plots and had no significant difference statistically among LFC plots. There was a close relationship between phosphate fertilization rate and the increment of soil available phosphate content after experiment resulting y=0.1788x-6.169 ($R^2=0.9425$) when applied fused superphosphate fertilizer, and y=0.0662x-2.689 ($R^2=0.9315$) when applied LFCs by the same amounts of phosphate (x: phosphate application, kg $ha^{-1}$, y: increment in soil available phosphate content, mg $kg^{-1}$. Plant height, number of stems, nutrients uptake by rice and rice yield showed higher levels in N 100, 150% application plots of chemical fertilizers, while every LFC plots exhibited lower values and no significant difference among them. Relative nitrogen fertilization efficiencies of LFCs compared to urea was 12.3% for cattle faeces compost (CaFC), 8.8 for swine faeces compost (SwFC) and 24.6 for chicken faeces compost (ChFC), respectively.
