Adsorption on goethite of individual component from a solution containing phosphate, sulfate, or copper ion was investigated. Competitive adsorption in the binary and ternary solution systems composed of phosphate, sulfate, and copper ions was also investigated. In competitive adsorption systems with phosphate and sulfate ions, the presence of phosphate ion reduced the adsorption of sulfate ion largely. On the other hand, the presence of sulfate ion caused only a small decrease in phosphate adsorption. This result suggests that phosphate ion is a stronger competitor for adsorption on goethite than sulfate ion, which is consistent with the higher affinity of phosphate for the surface compared to sulfate ion. Compared to the results from single-sorbate systems, adsorption of copper ion in the binary system of sulfate ion and copper ion was found to be enhanced in the presence of sulfate ion. Addition of sulfate ion to the binary system of copper ion and phosphate ion resulted in a small enhancement in copper sorption. This result implies that the presence of sulfate ion promotes adsorption of the ternary complex FeOHCuSO$_4$. The adsorption isotherms could be well described by the Langmuir adsorption equation.
Adsorption of phosphate, sulfate, and copper ion to goethite was investigated. Goethite was prepared in the alkaline solution. In the single adsorbate systems, the final equilibrium plateau reached within 20 min. The adsorption isotherms of the individual ions could be well described by the Langmuir equation. The maximum adsorption capacities (q$\_$max/) were calculated as 0.483 m㏖/g and 0.239 m㏖/g at pH 3 for phosphate and sulfate ion, and 0.117 m㏖/g at pH 6 for copper ion, respectively, In competitive adsorption system with phosphate and sulfate, phosphate ion was a stronger competitor for adsorption on goethite than sulfate ion, which was consistent with higher affinity of phosphate ion for the surface compared to sulfate ion. The existence of sulfate ion enhanced the adsorption of copper ion but the adsorption of sulfate was inhibited when copper ion was present.
We measured phosphate benthic fluxes and conducted phosphate adsorption experiments in order to find out the effects of adsorption on phosphate benthic fluxes in the intertidal sediments of Keunso Bay during summer and winter. Organic carbon contents showed little variation with season at St. S1, but noticeable changes were observed at St. S2, which were three times higher in winter than in summer. The higher organic carbon contents in winter resulted from the bloom of benthic algae in surface sediments. Pore water phosphate concentrations were much higher in summer than in winter. The higher phosphate concentration in summer was probably due to the faster remineralization rate of organic matter in summer. At St. S1, benthic fluxes of phosphate showed a negative value in summer and a positive value in winter. However, St. S2 had a negative benthic flux both in summer and winter. The negative benthic flux was ascribed to the phosphate adsorption on iron oxides in surface sediments. The equilibrium concentrations of phosphate obtained from the adsorption experiment were three times higher at St. S1 than at St. S2. The relatively high adsorption coefficient and low equilibrium concentration indicated that phosphate was strongly adsorbed on the surface sediments of Keunso Bay. The strong adsorption affinity significantly reduced benthic fluxes of phosphate in the intertidal sediments.
This study proposes the recycling of MVS as a value-added product for the removal of phosphate from aqueous solutions. By comparing the phosphate adsorption capacity of each calcined adsorbent at each temperature of MVS, it was determined that the optimal heat treatment temperature of MVS to improve the phosphate adsorption capacity was 800 ℃. MVS-800 suggests an adsorption mechanism through calcium phosphate precipitation. Subsequent kinetic studies with MVS-800 showed that the PFO model was more appropriate than the PSO model. In the equilibrium adsorption experiment, through the analysis of Langmuir and Freundlich models, Langmuir can provide a more appropriate explanation for the phosphate adsorption of MVS-800. This means that the adsorption of phosphate by MVS-800 is uniform over all surfaces and the adsorption consists of a single layer. Thermodynamic analysis of thermally activated MVS-800 shows that phosphate adsorption is an endothermic and involuntary reaction. MVS-800 has the highest phosphate adsorption capacity under low pH conditions. The presence of anions in phosphate adsorption reduces the phosphate adsorption capacity of MVS-800 in the order of CO 3 2-, SO 4 2-, NO 3- and Cl-. Based on experimental data to date, MVS-800 is an environmentally friendly adsorbent for recycling waste resources and is considered to be an adsorbent with high adsorption capacity for removing phosphates from aqueous solutions. This paper combines the advantages of gray predictor and AI fuzzy. The gray predictor can be used to predict whether the bear point exceeds the allowable deviation range, and then perform appropriate control corrections to accelerate the bear point to return to the boundary layer and achieve.

The present study investigated a novel calcium hydroxide-coated dairy manure-derived biochar (Ca-BC) for adsorption of phosphate from water and dairy wastewater. The Ca-BC showed much higher adsorption of phosphate than that of dairy manure-derived biochar. The Ca-BC possessed mainly the calcium hydroxide and various functional groups resulting in high reactivity between phosphate and calcium hydroxide in the Ca-BC. The adsorption of phosphate onto Ca-BC followed pseudo-second order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm models indicating chemisorptive interaction occurred on energetically heterogeneous surface of Ca-BC. The maximum adsorption capacity of the Ca-BC was higher than those of iron oxide and zinc oxide-coated biochars, but lower than those of CaO- and MgO-coated biochars. However, the Ca-BC showed high reactivity per surface area for adsorption of phosphate indicating importance of surface functionalization of biochar. On the other hand, the adsorption of phosphate in dairy wastewater on Ca-BC was lower than that in water owing to competition between other anions in wastewater and phosphate. Overall, the Ca-BC would be a low cost and effective adsorbent for recovery of phosphate from water and wastewater.
This study was performed to investigate the removal characteristics of phosphate by adsorption on olivine, which is generated as industrial by-products from quarry. The adsorption of phosphate on olivine was significantly achieved within 1 hour and equilibrated after 3 hours. The adsorption capacity of phosphate was enhanced with decreasing pH. The maximum adsorption capacity was observed to be 0.463 mg/g in the condition of pH 3. The $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ ion amount per adsorbent eluted from olivine was increased with decreasing pH. The precipitation test showed that phosphate in aqueous phase under the condition of pH 3 ~ 9 could be eliminated largely by adsorption on olivine, not precipitation. Freundlich adsorption model were successfully applied to describe the adsorption behavior of phosphate on olivine. The $q_m$ of Langmuir adsorption model were 1.3369 mg/g, 1.0544 mg/g, 1.0288 mg/g at pH 3, 6 and 9, respectively. The $K_F$ of Freundlich adsorption model were 0.4247 mg/g, 0.3399 mg/g, 0.2942 mg/g at pH 3, 6 and 9, respectively. The olivine showed high feasibility as a adsorbent for the removal of $PO_4$-P.
Former studies revealed that sepiolite thermally treated at high temperature have high adsorption capacity for phosphate. However, its micron size (75 ㎛) limits its application to water treatment. In this study, we synthesized sepiolite impregnated polysulfone (PSf) beads to separate it easily from an aqueous solution. PSf beads with different sepiolite ratios were synthesized and their efficiencies were compared. The PSf beads with 30% impregnated sepiolite (30SPL-PSf bead) possessed the optimum sepiolite ratio for phosphate removal. Kinetic, equilibrium, and thermodynamic adsorption experiments were performed using the 30SPL-PSf bead. Equilibrium adsorption was achieved in 24 h, and the pseudo-first-order model was suitable for describing the phosphate adsorption at different reaction times. The Langmuir model was appropriate for describing the phosphate adsorption onto the 30SPL-PSf bead, and the maximum adsorption capacity of the 30SPL-PSf bead obtained from the model was 24.48 mg-PO4/g. Enthalpy and entropy increased during the phosphate adsorption onto the 30SPL-PSf bead, and Gibb's free energy at 35 ℃ was negative. An increase in the solution pH from 3 to 11 induced a decrease in the phosphate adsorption amount from 27.30 mg-PO4/g to 21.54 mg-PO4/g. The competitive anion influenced the phosphate adsorption onto the 30SPL-PSf bead was in the order of NO3- > SO42- > HCO3-. The phosphate breakthrough from the column packed with the 30SPL-PSf bead began after ~2000 min, reaching the influent concentration after ~8000 min. The adsorption amounts per unit mass of 30SPL-PSf and removal efficiency were 0.775 mg-PO4/g and 61.6%, respectively. This study demonstrates the adequate performance of 30SPL-PSf beads as a filter for phosphate removal from aqueous solutions.

This study explored the feasibility of calcium-rich food waste, Mactra veneriformis shells (MVS), as an adsorbent for phosphate removal, and its removal efficiency was enhanced by the thermal activation process. The CaCO3 in MVS was converted to CaO by thermal activation (>800 ℃), which is more favorable for adsorbing phosphate. Thermal activation did not noticeably influence the specific surface area of MVS. The MVS thermally activated at 800 ℃ (MVS-800), showed the highest phosphate adsorption capacity, was used for further adsorption experiments, including kinetics, equilibrium isotherms, and thermodynamic adsorption. The effects of environmental factors, including pH, competing anions, and adsorbent dosage, were also studied. Phosphate adsorption by MVS-800 reached equilibrium within 48h, and the kinetic adsorption data were well explained by the pseudo-first-order model. The Langmuir model was a better fit for phosphate adsorption by MVS-800 than the Freundlich model, and the maximum adsorption capacity of MVS-800 obtained via the Langmuir model was 188.86 mg/g. Phosphate adsorption is an endothermic and involuntary process. As the pH increased, the phosphate adsorption decreased, and a sharp decrease was observed between pH 7 and 9. The presence of anions had a negative impact on phosphate removal, and their impact followed the decreasing order CO32- > SO42- > NO3- > Cl-. The increase in adsorbent dosage increased phosphate removal percentage, and 6.67 g/L of MVS-800 dose achieved 99.9% of phosphate removal. It can be concluded that the thermally treated MVS-800 can be used as an effective adsorbent for removing phosphate.
The hydroxyapatite(HAp) for the present study was prepared with the wastewater sludge from semiconductor fabrication process and it was crystallized in an electric furnace for 30 min at 90$0^{\circ}C$. The adsorption characteristics of HAp for phosphate ion in aqueous solution has been investigated. The adsorbed ratio of phosphate ion for HAp were investigated according to the reaction time, amount of HAp, concentration of standard solution, pH of solution, and influence of concomitant ions. The amount of adsorbed phosphate ion decreased with the increase of pH due to the mutual electrostatic repulsion between adsorbed phosphate ions and competitive adsorption between phosphate ion and OH- ion in aqueous solution. The maxium amount of the adsorption equilibrium for phosphate ion was about 24 mg/g of HAp. The HAp would likely to be a possible adsorbent for the removal of phosphate ion in the waste water.
This research was performed to evaluate the efficacy of phosphate removal from wastewater by surface-modified wood powder and to clarify the removal mechanisms. In this work, Pinus rigida which is abundant in Korea and has little economic value was used in preparation of the wood powder as a sorbent material. The experiments were carried out in 2 phases, isothermal adsorption test and column test. The results of adsorption test fitted well both the Langmuir and Freundlich isothermal equations. Adsorption capacity was highest with the bark powder followed by the mixed powder(50% bark powder and 50% woody powder) and woody powder. Phosphate removal efficiency was as high as 98% at initial phosphate concentration of 50mg/L. Specific surface area of the powder increased following the experiment and phosphate removal was speculated to occur through adsorption mechanism. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDXA) revealed that the phosphate adsorbed onto the surface of the powder was in the form of strengite($FePO_{4}$).
