In continuous speech recognition system, it is possible to implement the system which can handle unlimited number of words by using limited number of phonetic units such as phonemes. Dividing continuous speech into the string of tems of phonemes prior to recognition process can lower the complexity of the system. But because of the coarticulations between neiboring phonemes, it is very difficult ot extract exactly their boundaries. In this paper, we propose the algorithm ot extract short terms which can represent each phonemes instead of extracting their boundaries. The short terms of lower spectral change and higher spectral chang eare detcted. Then phoneme changes are detected using distance measure with this lower spectral change terms, and hgher spectral change terms are regarded as transition terms or short phoneme terms. Finally lower spectral change terms and the mid-term of higher spectral change terms are regarded s the represent each phonemes. The cepstral coefficients and weighted cepstral distance are used for speech feature and measuring the distance because of less computational complexity, and the speech data used in this experimetn was recoreded at silent and ordinary in-dorr environment. Through the experimental results, the proposed algorithm showed higher performance with less computational complexity comparing with the conventional segmetnation algorithms and it can be applied usefully in phoneme-based continuous speech recognition.
In this paper, we propose a use of confidence vector as an intermediate input feature for multi-stage based speech recognition architecture to improve recognition accuracy. A multi-stage speech recognition structure is introduced as a method to reduce the computational complexity of the decoding procedure and then accomplish faster speech recognition. Conventional multi-stage speech recognition is usually composed of three stages, acoustic search, lexical search, and acoustic re-scoring. In this paper, we focus on improving the accuracy of the lexical decoding by introducing a confidence vector as an input feature instead of phoneme which was used typically. We take experimental results on 220K Korean Point-of-Interest (POI) domain and the experimental results show that the proposed method contributes on improving accuracy.
There are many of games using smart devices. Voice recognition is can be useful way for input. In the game, voice have to be quickly recognized, at the same time it have to be manipulated promptly as well. In this study, we developed the optimized real-time phoneme recognition using max flow matching that it can be efficiently used in the game field. Firstly, voice wavelength is transformed to FFT, secondly, transformed value is made by a graph in Z plane, thirdly, data is extracted in specific area, and then data is saved in database. After all the value is recognized using weighted bipartite max flow matching. This way would be useful method in game or robot field when researchers hope to recognize the fast voice recognition.
Utterance verification is used in variable vocabulary word recognition to reject the word that does not belong to in-vocabulary word or does not belong to correctly recognized word. Utterance verification is an important technology to design a user-friendly speech recognition system. We propose a new utterance verification algorithm for no-training utterance verification system based on the minimum verification error. First, using PBW (Phonetically Balanced Words) DB (445 words), we create no-training anti-phoneme models which include many PLUs(Phoneme Like Units), so anti-phoneme models have the minimum verification error. Then, for OOV (Out-Of-Vocabulary) rejection, the phoneme-based confidence measure which uses the likelihood between phoneme model (null hypothesis) and anti-phoneme model (alternative hypothesis) is normalized by null hypothesis, so the phoneme-based confidence measure tends to be more robust to OOV rejection. And, the word-based confidence measure which uses the phoneme-based confidence measure has been shown to provide improved detection of near-misses in speech recognition as well as better discrimination between in-vocabularys and OOVs. Using our proposed anti-model and confidence measure, we achieve significant performance improvement; CA (Correctly Accept for In-Vocabulary) is about 89%, and CR (Correctly Reject for OOV) is about 90%, improving about 15-21% in ERR (Error Reduction Rate).
In this paper we used Support Vector Machines(SVMs) recently proposed as the loaming method, one of Artificial Neural Network, to divide continuous speech into phonemes, an initial, medial, and final sound, and then, performed continuous speech recognition from it. Decision boundary of phoneme is determined by algorithm with maximum frequency in a short interval. Recognition process is performed by Continuous Hidden Markov Model(CHMM), and we compared it with another phoneme divided by eye-measurement. From experiment we confirmed that the method, SVMs, we proposed is more effective in an initial sound than Gaussian Mixture Models(GMMs).
In order to cluster the Input pattern neatly, some neural network modified from Kohonen's self organizing feature map is introduced and Korean phoneme recognition experiments are performed using the modified self organizing feature map(MSOFM) and the auditory model.
This paper presented a adaptation approach based on maximum model distance (MMD) method. This method shares the same framework as they are used for training speech recognizers with abundant training data. The MMD method could adapt to all the models with or without adaptation data. If large amount of adaptation data is available, these methods could gradually approximate the speaker-dependent ones. The approach is evaluated through the phoneme recognition task on the TIMIT corpus. On the speaker adaptation experiments, up to 65.55% phoneme error reduction is achieved. The MMD could reduce phoneme error by 16.91% even when ...

The phoneme segmentation is a very difficult problem in speech sound processing because it has found out segmental algorithm in many kinds of allophone and coarticulation's trees. Thus system configuration for the speech recognition and voice retrieval processing has a complex system structure. To solve it, we discuss a possibility of new segmental algorithm, which is called the minus a thirds one or plus in tripartitioning(삼분손익) of twelve temporament(12 율려), first proposed by Prof. T. S. Han. It is close to oriental and western musical theory. He also has suggested a 3 consonant and 3 vowel phonemes in Hunminjungum(훈민정음) invented by the King Sejong in the 15th century. In this paper, we suggest to newly name it as ortho-phonic phoneme(OPP/정음소), which carries the meaning of 'the absoluteness and independency'. OPP also is acceptable to any other languages, for example IPA. Lastly we know that this algorithm is constantly applicable to the global language and is very useful to construct a voice recognition and retrieval structuring engineering.

This research describes a neural network-based phoneme segmenter for recognizing spontaneous speech. The input of the phoneme segmenter for spontaneous speech is 16th order mel-scaled FFT, normalized frame energy, ratio of energy among 0~3[KHz] band and more than 3[KHz] band. All the features are differences of two consecutive 10 [msec] frame. The main body of the segmenter is single-hidden layer MLP(Multi-Layer Perceptron) with 72 inputs, 20 hidden nodes, and one output node. The segmentation accuracy is 78% with 7.8% insertion.
