Flat-bottomed design philosophy of Y-typed bifurcations in hydropower stations

  • The drainage problem in bifurcations causes pecuniary losses when hydropower stations are undergoing periodic overhaul. A new design philosophy for Y-typed bifurcations that are flat-bottomed is proposed. The bottoms of all pipe sections are located at the same level, making drainage due to gravity possible and shortening the draining time. All fundamental curves were determined, and contrastive analysis with a crescent-rib reinforced bifurcation in an actual project was conducted. Feasibility demonstrations were researched including structural characteristics based on finite element modeling and hydraulic characteristics based on computational fluid dynamics. The new bifurcation provided a well-balanced shape and reasonable stress state. It did not worsen the flow characteristics, and the head loss was considered acceptable. The proposed Y-typed bifurcation was shown to be suitable for pumped storage power stations.

  • The writer has worked out his original philosophy both scientific and religious, which he calls "Knownism" The new thought states; the word "known" in "knownism" means "already well-informed in the providence" about the essence of the things, and the true state of the reality, hence the knownism, as the existence of God is set forth as a premise. The knownism is a philosophy unified reasonably the science and the faith into one, for the humans can perceive and realize the essence and the true state, and authorize the truth transcending the experience by the scientific method. The new thought of the knownism is a bridge-building between the natural science and the religious faith. The idea explains that the life is the process to pursue the essence of the things and the god, and the truth is immanent in the original nature of things and in God′s sphere. This thought is a philorophy of possibility to solve the paradigms-to-be such as thinking, faith experience, and supernatural power, so that it presents a vision in the human life as a profitable religious science philosophy. The knownism is much different from agnosticism, skepticism, empiricism, and agnosticism. The grace of God may be detected differently from the supernatural power. The new dark clouds overspread abruptly the summer sky are not new ones but originally derived frosm worn-out water drops. Thus those are called the old clouds. The Korean word "known"(노운) of which pronunciation is same with the English "known" means the old clouds, hence also the name, Knownism. The root of the new clouds is detectable from the preserved old clouds. The old clouds symbolized in the paper indicate the essence and the principles of the things and the fittest, or the key for the solution of the problem in the epistemology, believing that everything has its own, proper nature, the writer sums up his theory by insisting that the humans have to find out the "old clouds" or the "known" in knownism to live eternally either in this world or in other dimensions, though the human beings are transformed into the other phases of life. The writer proclaims through the ideas for the United Nations to fortify the Confederate System of World Nations in order to ensure the world peace and the future of the humans.

서양 대표사상의 서비스철학성 연구 (A Study on the Service Philosophy of Major Western Ideology)

  • 본 연구는 선행연구들에 이어서 서비스철학 정립을 위해 서양 대표사상의 서비스철학성을 고찰하였다. 선행 연구들을 참조하여 서비스철학의 구조와 운용모델을 종합하여 제시하고, 서양 대표사상의 서비스철학성을 분석하였다. 시대별로 서양 대표사상을 분석하였는데, 고대 지중해 철학, 아테네철학을 서비스구조 관점에서 상세히 분석하고, 근대 사상과 현대사상은 서비스 운용모델 정합성 관점에서 자세히 분석하였다. 서비스의 무형성과 과정성 특징이 서양 대표사상의 세계관과 부합하는지를 분석하고, 서비스의 본질적 특성인 관계성, 쌍방향성, 수평성, 조화성이 서양대표사상에서 공통적으로 강조되고 있는지를 분석하였다. 또한 서비스의 나선형 발전 모델이 서양대표사상에서의 세계 발전 모델과 정합되는지도 고찰하였다. 고대 사상에서 근대사상까지 주류 사상들은 대립물의 변증법적 발전을 강조하고 있어 서비스의 태극형 기본 구조가 서양 사상에서의 세계의 운행구조와 부합되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 고대에서 현대 사상에 이르기까지 순환론과 과정론이 중심사상으로 나타나고 있어 프로세스가 가치를 창출하는 서비스 운용모델과 일관성이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 관계성과 조화성은 대다수의 서양사상가들이 세상의 근본 운행원리로 제시하고 있으며, 쌍방향성과 수평성도 세상의 이상적인 운영모델로 제시되고 있다. 서양 대표사상들을 활용하여 서비스철학을 보다 심화시킬 수 있으며, 인류사회를 이끌어가는 사상으로서 서비스철학이 중심 역할을 할 수 있음이 확인되었다. 향후 신경제사회의 중심사상으로서 서비스철학의 구조와 운용원리를 완성하기 위한 후속 연구들이 필요하다. 미래 경제사회 발전을 견인하는 큰 사상으로서 서비스철학 완성 연구가 필요하다.

서비스경제철학으로서의 한국고유사상 정합성연구 (A Study on Korean Traditional Philosophy as the Service Economy Philosophy)

  • 본 연구는 서비스경제의 발전을 이끌어갈 기본 철학을 탐구하였다. 한국고유사상이 서비스경제 철학에 부합하며, 한국고유사상의 발현을 통해 서비스문화가 확산되고 서비스경제가 활성화될 수 있음을 제시하였다. 서비스경제는 서비스라는 관계재화가 중심이 되므로, 실체성을 강조하는 서양철학보다 관계성을 강조하는 동양철학이 서비스경제 철학으로서 더 부합한다고 할 수 있다. 음양 또는 천지의 2태극 사상은 서비스경제에서 중심으로 부상된 인간의 역할을 강조하고 있지 않으므로, 인간을 중시하는 새로운 철학이 요구된다. 천지(음양)의 양극 구조 철학을 뛰어넘는 천지인 3태극 구조의 한국 고유 사상이 서비스경제시대, 제4차 산업혁명시대에는 인류사회와 경제의 발전을 견인하는 중심철학이 될 수 있다. 천지인 3재의 본성은 조화성, 수평성, 쌍방향성, 관계성 등의 서비스본질과도 부합하므로 천지인 3태극 사상은 서비스경제시대의 기본 철학이 될 수 있다. 인간이 하늘과 땅의 주관자 및 주도자로서 역할을 하는 사상이 현대 서비스경제에서 경영자와 종업원 및 소비자인 사람이 창조자로서 중심역할을 하는 구조와 부합한다. 따라서, 한국고유사상은 서비스경제를 이끌어갈 사상적 기반으로서 정합되며, 서비스경제를 육성시킬 수 있는 철학적 프레임이 된다.

중 . 고등학교 과학교사와 학생들의 과학의 본성에 대한 인식 조사 (Teachers' and Students' Understanding of the Nature of Science)

  • In the last few years, there has been a significant growth of interest in how the philosophy of science can be related to science education. Adequate understanding of the philosophy and history of science can promote understanding of the nature of science in teacher and student. The 6th curriculum in Korea has also placed emphasis upon understanding of the nature of science. From this point of view, to ensure effective school science education it is necessary to investigate how teachers and students are understanding the nature of science. To do this 45 secondary science teachers and 191 students of 7 schools in Seoul are administered Nott and Wellington's questionaire(1993). This questionaire is consisted of 24 Likert Scale statements and asks questions on 5 subscales of philosophy of science :Relativism-Positivism, Inductivism-Deductivism, Contextualism-Decontextualism, Instrumentalism-Realism, Thinking science education as a Process or a Content. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Teachers' view of the nature of science was relativism, deductivism, decontextualism and instrumentalism. And they thought process is more important than content in science education. 2. There was no difference in teachers' conceptions on the nature of science according to experience and gender. 3. Students' view of the nature of science was relativism, deductivism, decontextualism and instrumentalism. And they thought process is more important than content in science education. 4. There was no difference in students' conceptions on the nature of science according to schools level(middle vs high) and gender. But, female students exhibited higher score than male students on deductivism(p<.05). 5. Teachers' and students' conception of the nature of science was in agreement with each other.

Body-Mind Unity as a Dominant Design Philosophy of Traditional Japanese Tea-House

  • Despite a current fascination with East Asian iconography such as Zen Style among contemporary designers, there is a lack of genuine cross-cultural discourse that could enable us to share essential design experiences. To bring the discussion a deeper level, traditional Japanese tea-house in its design philosophy of body-mind interplay is explored. Tea-house is a superb manifestation to reveal a holistic understanding of the world. Nondualistic realization is generally associated with the dominant tendency of traditional East Asian philosophy, namely the view that the self and environment, and that the mind and the body exist in unity. The essence of tea-house is not in its poetic style or meticulous details, but in its unmistakably monistic approach of creating inseparable form, function and meaning. Tea-house bestows dignity upon restraint, imperfection, discomfort, poverty, and even humility. This concept offers a tremendous insight since it implies that the rational and effective design solution to the greatest degree is not sufficient. Perhaps the most challenging question about tea-house is: How does our experience with human-made 'design' in the broadest sense help both our body and mind attain a full harmony of being? It is the heading which this research inquires.

A Study on the History of Statistics

  • The development of probability and statistics has been treated in the works of scholars for decades. In this paper, researches on the history of statistics are classified into four categories: philosophy of science, mathematical statistics, social science and sociology of science. Four categories are presented and histories classified into categories are reviewed briefly. Considered are works by Ian Hacking (1975, 1990), Lorrain Daston (988), Anders Hald (1990, 1998), Stephen Stigler (1986), Ted Porter (1986) and Donald MacKenzie (1981). These works are classified by the author's main interests. From such a diversity in the study of its history, we can see many faces of statistics and unique features of statistics.

대순사상의 역학적 조명 - 종지(宗旨)를 중심으로 - (Daesoon Thought Explained Through the Philosophy of the Book of Change)

  • The Four Tenets of Daesoon thought are the Creative conjunction of the virtues of Eum and Yang, the Harmonious union of divine beings and human beings, the Resolution of grievances for the mutual beneficence of all life and the Realization of the Dao in the world. This article compares the concepts of the "Creative conjunction of the virtues of Eum and Yang", the "Harmonious union of divine beings and human beings" and the "Resolution of grievances for the mutual beneficence of all life" with "EumYangDaeDaeRon", "ShinMyonKiDeok", the Theory of Mutual Giving Life / Mutual Destruction (SangSaeng/SangGeukRon) of the Book of Changes and analyzes their common and different points. The conclusion is that Daesoon thought and the philosophy of the Book of Changes share common fundamental standpoints. However, the Daesoon thought defines the world of SeonCheon (the state before the Heaven and Earth have been created) as Mutual Giving Life (SangSaeng), and the world of HuCheon (the state after the Heaven and Earth have been created) as Mutual Destruction (SangGeuk). According to Daesoon thought the Mutual Destruction (SangGeuk) is seen as negative, while according to the philosophy of the Book of Changes the Theory of Mutual Giving Live/Mutual Destruction (SangSaeng/SangGeukRon) is viewed as a positive relationship of EumYangDaeDae. This is a point of difference between the Daesoon thought and the philosophy of the Book of Changes. According to EumYangDaeDae relationship theory the contradictory "other" is viewed not as an enemy, but as a necessary element that assures one's existence. When Buddhism and Christianity first came to existence, they did not belong to a main stream. Later, through continuous theorization and systematization they became generally accepted religions. The case of Confucianism was not much different. During Song dynasty in China Buddhism has contributed to the systematization and establishment of Neo-Confucianism; in the middle of 20th century the Confucian scholars of Hong Kong and Taiwan interpreted and defined Confucianism a new in the light of Western philosophy. Thus the "Modern Neo-Confucianism" came to existence. That's why the history of Confucianism is also called "the history of advancing and developing a concept". From this point of view the critical acceptance of some elements of Confucian, Buddhist, Taoist etc. traditions, as well as modern philosophy, by Daesoon, in order to achieve the systematization of Daesoon thought, is a very important process. As a part of this process, this essay explains the Daesoon thought from the point of view of the Book of Changes, which may be said to present the original East-Asian view of the world. Daesoon's emphasis of human dignity, the equality of sexes, the critics the hierarchical society etc. are rather "modern" and should be examined from the point of view of social science. Besides, leaving the boundaries of "modern philosophy", the concepts of "Harmonious union of divine beings and human beings", viewing the universe as one organism etc. should be approached from the point of view of Post-Modernism.

신경제사회 중심사상으로서의 서비스철학 연구 (A Study on Service Philosophy for New Economy and Society)

  • 본 연구는 신경제사회 중심사상으로서 서비스철학 정립을 위해 수행되었다. 서비스경제시대를 이끌어갈 사상적 기반인 서비스철학은 우주와 인간의 본질원리를 반영하면서, 신경제사회를 발전시킬 수 있는 사상이어야 한다. 선행 연구들인 인류대표사상의 서비스철학성 연구와 신경제사회 및 서비스본질 연구를 토대로 서비스철학을 도출하였다. 좋은 사상은 우주의 원리와 부합해야하고 또 인류 대표사상의 정수와 부합해야 하므로, 우주의 근본원리와 인류 대표 사상의 핵심을 도출하여 반영하였다. 또한 중심사상은 신경제사회의 변화를 미래지향적으로 반영해야 하므로, 서비스의 본질과 신경제사회의 변화를 분석하였다. 현대물리학의 거시적 우주론과 미시적 양자론의 사회적 사상적 의의를 분석하였다. 동양과 서양 대표 사상들의 흐름을 분석하고, 서비스가 중심인 현대사회 관점에서 이들 사상의 시사점을 도출하였다. 제4차 산업혁명시대인 현대경제사회는 과학기술의 급속한 발전으로 인간의 역할이 크게 변화하고 있다. 산업과 일자리의 구조변화가 촉진되는 현 시대 상황을 분석하여 반영하였다. 현대물리학의 상보성원리가 고대 태극 사상과 부합하고 있으며, 현대 서양 사상이 동양 고대 사상과 상관성이 높은 것은 인류가 삶을 지속하려는 의지가 우주와 인간의 본질에 근거하고 있기 때문으로 분석되었다. 우주와 인간의 본질원리에 기반하여 서비스철학 구조를 정립하고, 서비스철학의 인간관과 역사관, 사회관, 경제관, 경영관을 도출하였다. 도출된 서비스철학의 구조를 제시하고, 향후 심화 연구를 위한 토론을 수행하였다. 서비스철학에 기반한 신경영학 정립 연구 등 각론 주제로 연구를 심화할 필요가 있다.
