The purpose of this study was to investigate the attraction distance range of pheromone traps used in the control of stink bugs, which are a problem in persimmon orchards, and the effects of sticky traps in increasing the efficiency of pheromone traps. Labeled individuals were released and then recaptured on pheromone and sticky traps. Riptortus clavatus was attracted to pheromone traps up to 60 m away. The capture rates of R. clavatus on sticky traps were 35%, 27%, 34%, 2.9%, and 0.6% after 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks To improve clarity, II have added this information from the details shown in the figures. Please check whether you agree.of exposure of the traps to the environment, respectively. Besides, when both pheromone and sticky traps were used at the same time following the release-recapture method, the capture rate of R. clavatus was 12 times higher than that by using pheromone traps only.
The seasonal occurrence trends of the brown-winged green bug, Plautia stali, and the brown malmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, were monitored in sweet persimmon orchards in southern region of Korea using light traps (in 2000 and 2001), and aggregation pheromone traps (methyl (E, E, Z)-2 ,4, 6-decatrienoate)) of P. stali (in 2001). Light trap data showed that H. halys started to occur from the end of June, and reached its peak in early or mid August, while P. stali was mostly attracted to the traps from mid July to late August without any distinct attraction peak. Both species did not occur after September in the persimmon orchards studied. The attraction patterns of both species to aggregation pheromone traps were different from those observed in light traps. Both species were attracted to the pheromone traps from mid May to late August. The peak occurrence of H. halys could not be detected due to low catches. However, the period of peak attraction for P. stali was from late June to late August depending on the geographical locations. The aggregation pheromone traps of P. stali attracted more number of P stali than H. hails, but the light traps showed a reverse pattern. In both species, more females were attracted to the aggregation pheromone traps than males. The difference of attraction patterns between 2 types of traps was discussed in relation to content of soluble tannin in persimmon fruits.

Attractiveness of different amounts of methyl (E,E,Z)-2,4,6-decatrienoate, the aggregation pheromone of brown-winged stink bug, Plautia stali (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), was tested using different kinds of dispensers. A lure filled with hexane was used as a control treatment. There were no differences in the attractiveness of the pheromone to P. stali and Halyomorpha halys among dispensers (polyethylene-vial, rubber septum, and polyethylene tube). Traps baited with 7, 20, 40, 50, and 60 mg of pheromone were tested for their attractiveness. For females, the 40 mg trap attracted highest number of P. stali, even though there were no significant differences among pheromone amounts. For males, the 40 and 50 mg traps attracted significantly more bugs than the 7, 20, and 60 mg traps and the control traps. Based on these results, the pheromone dispenser impregnated with 40 mg of pheromone will be practical in monitoring P. stali in the field.
Studies were conducted to control Spodoptera exigua in Allium fistulosum field using synthetic sex pheromone trap. Heavily, medium and lightly damagd fields at early transplanting time showed no differences in control effects after 8 weeks of establishment of pheromone traps in Allium fistulosum fields. Number of damaged leaves in each treated field was 0.2-3 individuals per 60 hills comparing with 33.2 individuals at non-treated field. Also, the numbers uf male adults attracted to pheromone traps were 1.8-5.0 individuals at the big inning of installation but increased to 25.8, 49.9, 74.9, and 77.4 individuals after 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks, respectively. There was a negative correlation between amount of male adults attracted to pheromone traps and number of damaged leaves (r=-0.9572*). Number of adults attracted to various colored light trap for 30 days were 6 in red, 11 in white and none in blue comparing with 1,041 individuals in pheromone trap.
The effect of food source in aggregation pheromone trap of bean bug, Riptortus clavatus, was evaluated in terms of the trap attractiveness using water-ran and cylinder-type traps. Water-pan trap baited with pheromone + food (dried soybean + dried peanut + water) attracted significantly more number of females and males than those with pheromone or control trap. Although cylinder-type trap baited with pheromone + food did not show significantly higher attractiveness, it attracted more adults and nymphs than the pheromone and control traps. Further research on the effect of trap types on attractiveness is needed.

Pheromones of several insect species were evaluated in a screening program in terms of their usefulness in pest forecasting and control in Korea. Species included striped rite borer (Chilo suppressalis) and tortricid moths, which attack deciduous fruit, and colding moth. The pheromone of striped rice borer was supplied through the courtesy of the Tropical Products Institute, London. Pheromones of other species were obtained from Cornell University and the Zoecon Corporation of Palo Alto, California. 'rho results of this experiment were as follows: 1. Live traps containing virgin striped rice borer female moths were more effective in attracting male moths than were the pheromone traps. 2. Since the effectiveness of the striped rice borer pheromone decreased dramatically with time, it was difficult to estimate the peak tine of the borer emergence. 3. The primary species trapped in deciduous fruit orchards was the oriental fruit moth, Grapholitha molesta. The traps were baited with the phermones, OFM and LAW. 4. Several moth species were trapped with OBLR. RBLR. SPAR and ArcM phermones but few were trapped with the remaining eight tortricid pheromones. 5. The following tortricid pheromones might be useful for forecasting the species given: OFM, LAW : Grapholitha molesta OBLR : Archips breviprecanus OBLH, RBLR, ArcM : Archippus coreensis Archips fuscocupreanus Hoshinoa longicellana SPAR, TBM ; Phyroderces sp.

Without pesticide applications, mass-trapping by sex pheromone was successful to control Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) in a large scale tomato glasshouse (10,000 $m^2$) at a low cost of 60 won/$m^2$. Pheromone traps were placed both inside and outside of the glasshouse. Inside the glasshouse traps were installed in a regular space, one trap per 500 $m^2$, to catch the moths that were present in the glasshouse, and traps were also set outside of the glasshouse, at intervals of ca. 20 m, to prevent the moths from invading the glasshouse. In the experiment, more than 400 S. litura were captured per trap.

This study was performed to monitor the seasonal occurrence of Pseudococcus comstocki (Kuwana) by using pheromone traps and to test a mating disruption technique to control this pest in pear orchards. We compared the attractiveness of rubber septa loaded with 1.5 and 3.0 mg of the pheromone, 2,6-dimethyl-1,5-heptadien-3-yl acetate. A total of 1,021 and 1,431 males were caught in traps baited with 1.5 mg and 3 mg of the pheromone, respectively. The numbers of males caught were not affected by trap color, although yellow traps were more attractive than white traps. In 2012, P. comstocki males were captured between June and October, with peaks in late June, early August, and late September. In 2013, the males were trapped between June and October, with peaks in middle June, late July, and late September. In pheromone mating disruption tests, catches were reduced by 17.7, 65.3, and 62.9% in orchards treated with 450, 900, and 1,350 mg per 10 a of the pheromone, respectively. At harvest, 3.4, 2.9, and 4.8% of fruits in orchards treated with 450, 900, and 1,350 mg per 10 a were damaged by P. comstocki, while 9.5% were damaged in the control orchard.
An unidentified moth was captured in sex pheromone traps of the oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta, especially at spring season in apple orchards and their vicinity. Though the captured males were similar in appearance to G. molesta males, they were easily distinguished by a matted difference in body size. Their occurrence pattern was also similar to that of overwintering G. molesta population from April to May, at which more males were captured in the pheromone traps installed in the vicinity of apple orchards than within apple orchards. After May, they were no longer captured in the pheromone traps. To investigate any larval damage due to this unidentified moth, molecular markers needed to be developed. Four PCR-RFLP markers originated from cytochrome b region of mitochondrial DNA could distinguish this unidentified moth from G. molesta.
Seasonal occurrence of the stink bug Piezodorus hybneri (Gmelin) (Heteroptera: Penta-tomidae) was monitored at a soybean field and the campus of Gyeongsang National University, Gyeongnam. Korea, in which host plants are less available for the bug with aggregation pheromone traps of Riptortus clavatus Thunberg (Heteroptera: Alydidae) in 2004. At soybean field, P. hybneri began to be attracted to traps from June 28, earlier than flowering stage of soybean plants. Number of P. hybneri attracted increased sharply after October 11. At the campus the bugs were not attracted to traps from March 21 to October 5, but began to be attracted since October 11. Difference in the occurrences in the two sites may suggest that the stink bug immigrates actively into soybean field to find host plant. P. hybneri that had been attracted to traps since October 11 was assumed to be diapausing adults emigrating to hibernation sites. There was no difference between sexes in trap catches. The fact that P. hybneri was attracted from June to late November may suggest that the aggregation pheromone of R. clavatus was attractive to both non-diapausing and diapausing adults of P. hybneri. The aggregation pheromone traps, when baited with 16.7+16.7+16.7 mg or 7+36+7 mg of (E)-2-hexenyl (Z)-3-hexenoate, (E)-2-hexenyl (E)-2-hexenoate, and myristyl isobutyrate, attracted significantly higher number of both sexes of P. hybneri adults than the live male traps baited with ten R. clavatus males and hexane control.
