  • Bis(diethyldithiocarbamato)ioxomolybdenum(VI), cis-MoO2(S2CNEt2)2, 1, reacted with chlorotrimethylsilane (Me33SiCl) to give a seven-coordinate, pentagonal bipyramidal complex MoOC12(S2CN]Et2)2, 3, in which the oxo ligand is trans to the chloride ligand and the two chloride ligands are mutually cis. The monooxo molybdenum complex bis(diethyidithiocarbamato)oxomolybdenum(IV), MoO(S2CNEt2)2, 2, reacted with phenyl isocyanate (PhNCO) to give an Mo dimer MO2{μ-N(CONPh)Ph}(μ-NPh)(NPh)2(S2CNEt2)2, 4, which contains an Mo-Mo bond, two diethyldithiocarbamato ligands, two terminal imido (NPh) ligands, and two bridging hnido (NPh) ligands. One of the two bridging NPh ligands seemed to have been attacked by the electrophilic phenyl isocyanate carbon, which suggests that the bridging imido NPh ligand is more nucleophilic than the terminal one. Crystallographic data for 4-THF: orthorhombic space group P212121, a=17.932(4) Å, b=22.715(5) Å, c=11.802(3) Å, Z=4, R(wR2)=0.0585(0.1286).

  • The investigation of the catalytic activity of supported rhodium(I) complex [Rh(P-S)$(CO)_2$] (P-S; polymer anchored salicylic acid) toward the reductive carbonylation of nitrobenzene in DMF medium has been reported. Use of basic cocatalysts in the reaction medium enhanced the percentage of more useful phenyl carbamates. Spectroscopic studies indicate that the reaction proceeds through a dimer species [Rh(HS)(CO)(C(O)$OCH_3$)(${\mu}-OCH_3)]_2$ and phenyl isocyanate is formed as an intermediate. A plausible reaction mechanism based on the identification of reactive intermediates from the soluble rhodium variety has been proposed for the carbonylation process.

  • Protected $\alpha$-Phenyl glycine 17 and phenylalanine 18 and 19 have been synthesized through an efficient three-step sequence from the corresponding allyl ethers 5, 7, and 10. The key intermediate in this synthesis is the corresponding allylic amines prepared by reaction of allyl ethers with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate.

  • A new analytical procedure for the measurement of monomeric isocyanates and total isocyanate group in workplaces has been investigated. The method described herd involves derivatization of the isocyanate sample upon collection with the reagent 9-anthracenylmethyl 1-piperazinecarboxylate (PAC). Laboratory investigations have demonstrated that excess PAC reagent can be satisfactorily removed from PAC-derivatized monomeric isocyanates-a requirement for the success f the analytical procedure. After removal of excess PAC reagent, the PAC derivatives of butyl isocyanate, phenyl isocyanate, HDI, MDI, and TDI were reacted with sodium thiomethoxide to convert them all to 9-anthracenylmethyl methyl sulfide (AMMS). Total isocyanate group was determined by HPLC analysis and quantification of the single AMMS peak. This circumvents many of the disadvantages associated with current HPLC methods. There were no longer problems associated with quantifying late-eluting peaks and analysis times were very short. A single detector was used for quantification because a standard of the analyte existed and the retention time could be determined. Because all species were converted to a single analyte, the problem of variability of response factors among different species was averted. Finally, there were no complex chromatograms to interpret. Monomers of other individual species were measured by analysis of the sample before the individual species were converted to AMMS. The favorable performance of PAC warrants its further study as a reagent for the determination of total isocyanate group in air.

  • Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are covalently functionalized with isocyanates by directly reacting commercial hydroxyl functionalized MWCNTs with excess 4,4'-methylenebis (phenyl isocyanate) (MDI) and hexamethylene diiosocyanate (HDI). HDI-modified MWCNTs results in a higher surface isocyanate density than MDI-modified MWCNTs. Anionic ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactam is conducted using a sodium caprolactam initiator in combination with a di-functional hexamethylene-1,6-dicarbamoylcaprolactam activator in the presence of isocyanate functionalized MWCNTs. This polymerization proceeds in a highly efficient manner at relatively low reaction temperature (150℃) and short reaction times (10 min). During the polymerization, the isocyanate functionalized MWCNTs act not only as reinforcing fillers but also as second activators. Nanocomposites with HDI modified MWCNTs exhibit higher reinforcement and faster isothermal crystallization than MDI modified MWCNTs. The results show that PA6 chains grow more effectively from HDI modified MWCNT surface than from MDI modified MWCNT surface, resulting in stronger interaction between PA6 and MWCNTs.

  • Betaines of bicyclic imidazo-thiazoles were synthesized by the reaction of clectrophiles such as methyl isocyanate, methyl isothiocyanate, allyl isothiocyanate and ketene with 3-methyl and 3-phenyl-5, 6-dihydroimidazo [2,1-b] thiazole. In this reaction, the methyl group which was substituted at 3-position increased the yields of the products in comparison with those from phenyl group substituted substrates. Also, the betaines reacted with methyl iodide to give imidazo-thiazolium salts which were unstable at high temperature and converted the quaternary ammonium salts of original biheterocycles.

  • Twelve benzothiazolyl and 6-substituted benzothiazoly phenyl and chlorophenyl ureas have been newly synthesized by reacting 2-amino benzothiazole and 2-amino-6-substituted benzothazole with three or four phenyl and chlorophenyl isocyanate, respectively. The structures of these compounds were determined by measurement of the molecular weights and elementary analysis as well as IR spectrophotometry. The compounds generally exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in the concentration of $50\mu g/ml$. The compounds containing chloro group exhibited stronger antibacterial activity than those containing methyl group against Eschichia coli. The difference in the antibacterial activity according to the substituted group (phenyl, o-, m-, and p-chlorophenyl) was also noted. The compounds containing o-chlorophenyl group, on the whole, exhibited more potent growth-inhibitory activity againsts staphylococcus aureus.

  • This paper describes the results of analysis, syntheses and Roll Stability of various Di-urea greases. Di-urea greases were synthesized by reaction of 4,4'-Methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) and various amines, such as cyclohexylamine, octylamine, stearylamine and p-toluidine with base oil at 80-180 $^{\circ}C$. The synthesized di-urea greases were analyzed by FT-R spectroscopy. The Roll Stability of synthesized di-urea greases was evaluated.

  • We examined the effect of p-substituents in p-substituted cinnamyl methyl ethers and 1-(p-substituted phenyl)allyl methyl ethers with CSI, and confirmed that the CSI reaction of allyl ethers (p-substituted ethers) is a competitive reaction of $S_Ni{\;}and{\;}S_N1$ mechanism according to the stability of the carbocation. And, the only terminal allylic amine was obtained through the migration reaction in thermodynamic reaction condition.
