  • Seven numerically dominant 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA)-degrading bacteria were isolated from agricultural soils. The isolates utilized the herbicide MCPA as a sole carbon source, producing significant biomass in MCPA mineral medium. They exhibited diverse herbicide degradation capabilities, but most of them grew very slowly in mineral medium containing herbicide. The chromosomal DNA patterns of the isolates obtained by polymerase chain reaction amplification of repetitive extragenic palindromic sequences were distinct from each other. One isolate, SH3, which was identified as Sphingomonas species by fatty acid methyl ester analysis, was able to degrade 5 different phenoxyacetic acid herbicides within 4 days. This strain contains two plasmids, and the smaller one has a crucial role in herbicide degradation. MCPA treated into agricultural soils without indigenous MCPA-degraders persisted for a long time, but the application of the isolate SH3 resulted in rapid decline of MCPA concentration in the soil.

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the influence of kinetin and 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid on the rate of growth, the contents of RNA, DNA, and protein. And also the effect of plant growth regulator on isoperoxidases in callus derived from root (root-callus) and petiole (petiolecallus) was investigated. The rate of growth in petiole-callus was higher than the rootcallus at 0.1 mg/l kinetin and 1mgfl 2,4-D. At 1mgll kinetic, the rate of growth increased, but at high concentration the rate of growth decreased fast. The contents of RNA, DNA and protein also increased, but it did not coincide with the increase of the growth rate of callus. The isoperoxidases of callus grown at various amounts of 2,4-D and kinetic occurred in an almost fashion, but those of root-callus appeared different from those of petiole-callus.

  • Background: Chlorophenols (CPs) and related phenoxyacetic acids (PAs) are pesticide groups contaminated with highly toxic 2, 3, 7, 8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) during production. PAs and CPs exposure is associated with risk of cancer, but the situation regarding lung cancer has not been clearly defined. We proposed a meta-analysis of published researches to evaluate relationship between chronic exposure to PAs and CPs in pesticide production workplaces and the risk of lung cancer. Materials and Methods: After searching PubMed, Scopus, Scholar Google, Web of Sciences until August 2013, the association between chronic PAs and CPs exposure in production workplace and lung cancer was studied in 15 cohort studies. The standardized mortality rate (SMR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were collected from the papers. We used random or fixed-effects models, Egger test, funnel plot and meta regression in our analysis. Results: Five papers with six reports were included in the final analysis. The standardized mortality rate for lung cancer from the random model was 1.18 (95% CI: 1.03-1.35, p=0.014) with moderate heterogeneity. Publication bias was not found for included studies in meta-analysis (p=0.9). Conclusions: Our findings has strengthen the evidence of lung cancer from chronic exposure to chlorophenol related compounds (PAs, CPs).
