Chemical and Biological Investigations of the Constitutive Phenolics of Two Egyptian Folk-Medicinal Plants; A Novel Phenolic from the Galls of Tamarix aphylla

  • A new natural product, 3,4,8-trihydroxybenzopyranopyran-6,9-dione was isolated from the aqueous ethanolic gall extract of Tamarix aphylla (Tamaricaceae) along with the known phenolics, monodecarboxyellagic acid and brevifolin carboxylic acid as well. The structures have been established by ESI-MS, $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR spectral analysis. Antiinflammatory, antipyretic and ulcerogenic activities determination for both plant (Tamarix aphylla and Phragmites australis) were carried out on aq. ethanolic of extracts.

  • 함박꽃나무 수피 및 목부의 EtOH 조추출물로부터 prep. TLC, silica gel 및 Sephadex LH-20 칼럼 크로마토그라피를 이용하여 4종의 화합물을 단리하였다. 이들 화합물들은 NMR, MS 등의 기기분석에 의해 sesquiterpene lactone 구조의 costunolide (I)를 비롯하여, 리그난 배당체 화합물인 syringin (II)과 1, 2-dihydroxyxanthone (III) 및 vanillic acid (IV)으로 각각 동정하였다.

  • Zearalenone (ZEA) is a phenolic resorcylic acid lactone compound produced by several species of Fusarium. ZEA has toxic effects in the testes of domestic and laboratory animals. Korean red ginseng (KRG), the steamed root of Panax ginseng Meyer, has multiple pharmacological effects such as vasorelaxation, anti-thrombosis, anti-hypertension, etc. In this study, we investigated the effects of KRG extract on testicular toxicity induced by ZEA. Rats were treated with 300 mg/kg oral doses of KRG for 4 weeks every other day. The rats were then treated with a single dose of 5 mg/kg ZEA delivered intraperitoneally, whereas control rats received only doses of the vehicle. As a result, germ cell apoptosis induced by ZEA was decreased by KRG pre-treatment. In addition, Fas and Fas-L expression was reduced in rats that received KRG pre-treatment compared to ones treated with ZEA alone. In conclusion, impaired spermatogenesis resulting from ZEA treatment was prevented by KRG through Fas-Fas L modulating.

오리엔트엽, 판상엽, 팽화엽 첨가에 따른 담배 연기성분 변화 (Changes of Tobacco Smoke Components by Adding Oriental, Reconstituted, and Expanded tobacco leaves)

  • This study was conducted to determine the smoke component changes by adding oriental, reconstituted, and expanded tobacco leaves. 7 different cigarette brands which were mixed with flue-cured, burley, oriental, reconstituted and expanded tobacco leaves were used for this study. 64 kinds of smoke components which were 6 of general components, 34 of semi-volatile and volatile components, 9 of acid components, and 15 of phenolic components were analyzed. All smoke components of mainstream smoke were changed by the different branding. As Tar, nicotine, ammonia, pH, all of acid compounds(except lacatic and glycolic acid) were decreased; HCN, levoglucosame, 4-vinyl phenol, 4-vinyl catechol, quinic acid-r-lactone, acetaldehyde, 2,3-butadiene, stylene were increased by adding oriental tobacco leaves. When the reconstituted tobaccos were added to 20%, the concentration of nicotine, all of acid compounds(except lactic. glycolic, palmitic acid) and all of phenol compounds were reduced; the concentration of ammonia, HNC, CO, aeconitrile, benzene, 2-butanone, moth-acrolene, butyronitrile, stylene, o-xylene were increased. As decreasing ammonia, pH, nicotine, all of acid compounds, all of phenol compounds, Isoprene, acetonitrile, 2-methyl-2-butene, 1,3-pentadiene, 2-nlethyl furane, ethylene cyclopentanone, ethyl bezene; increasing CO concentration were followed by adding expanded tobacco leaves.

모과의 휘발성 Flavor 성분에 관한 연구 (Volatile Flavor Components in Chinese Quince Fruits, Chaenomeles sinensis koehne)

  • 모과의 휘발성 flavor 성분은 상압 수증기 증류법에 의해서 추출되었으며, 추출된 휘발성 flavor 성분은 중성, 염기성, 약산성 및 산성구분으로 분획되었다. 분획된 4구분중 산성 구분은 carboxylic acid를 동정하기 위하여 diazomethane법에 의해서 methyl ester화 시켰다. 각 구분중에 함유되어 있는 휘발성 flavor 성분은 fused silica capillary column을 장치한 고분해능 GC 및 GC-MS에 의해서 분리 동정하였다. 모과의 수증기 증류유출액으로부터 얻어진 휘발성 flavor 농축액 중에서 총 145성분이 동정되었으며, 이들은 지방족 탄화수소 3성분, 환상 탄화수소 1성분, 방향족 탄화수소 4성분, terpene 탄화수소 9성분, alcohol 17성분, terpenealcohol 3성분 phenol 6성분, aldehyde 21성분, ketone 7성분, ester 28성분, 산 27성분 furan 3성분, thiazole 2성분 acetal 2성분 lactone 3성분 및 기타 9성분이었다. Carboxylic acid를 제외한 나머지 휘발성 flavor 성분의 대부분은 중성구분으로부터 동정되었다. 중성구분은 다른 구분보다 상당히 높은 수득량을 나타내었으며, 관능검사의 결과에서도 중성 구분은 모과의 방향성을 재현시키기 위해서 필요불가결한 것으로 나타나다. 관능검사용 GC에 의해서 얻어진 결과에 의하면 1-hexanal, cis-3-hexanal, trans-2-hexanal, 2-methyl-2-hepten-6-one, 1-hexanol, cis-3-hexanol, trans, trans-2, 4-hexadienal 및 trans-2-hexanol은 풋 냄새의 주성분으로 생각된다. 한편으로, ester 화합물은 모과의 과일 냄새의 주성분인 것으로 생각된다.
