With the increase in the annealing temperature, the volume fraction of austenite phase increased and the volume fraction of ferrite phase decreased. In compliance with the addition of N, not only the volume fraction of austenite phase was increased but also the austenite structure was made larger. Volume fraction of ${\sigma}$ phase was increased by decreasing of the volume fraction of ferrite phase, with the increase in the aging time and in compliance with the addition of N. As increasing in volume fraction of ${\sigma}$ phase, tensile strength and hardness increased, while elongation and impact value decreased. Elongation slowly decreased and impact value rapidly decreased at the early stage of aging. By the added N, tensile strength, elongation, hardness and impact value was increased.

Two-phase compressible flow fields of air-water are investigated numerically in the fixed Eulerian grid framework. The phase interface is captured via volume fractions of each phase. A way to model two phase compressible flows as a single phase one is found based on an equivalent equation of states of Tait's type for a multiphase cell. The equivalent single phase field is discretized using the Roe‘s approximate Riemann solver. Two approaches are tried to suppress the pressure oscillation phenomena at the phase interface, a passive advection of volume fraction and a direct pressure relaxation with the compressible form of volume fraction equation. The direct pressure equalizing method suppresses pressure oscillation successfully and generates sharp discontinuities, transmitting and reflecting acoustic waves naturally at the phase interface. In discretizing the compressible form of volume fraction equation, phase interfaces are geometrically reconstructed to minimize the numerical diffusion of volume fraction and relevant variables. The motion of a projectile in a water-filled tube which is fired by the release of highly pressurized air is simulated presuming the flow field as a two dimensional one, and several design factors affecting the projectile movement are investigated.

The effective longitudinal shear modulus(LSM) of continuous composites is studied theoretically and numerically using 3-phase unit cell model. Circular, hexagonal and rectangular shapes of reinforced fiber are considered to predict the shear modulus as a function of elastic modulus of each phase and volume fraction of interphase and reinforced fiber. It is found that rectangular fiber shape in low fiber volume fraction($v_f$<30%) and circular fiber shape in high volume fraction($v_f$>40%) shows the higher longitudinal shear modulus. Also the obtained values of LSM for rectangular array and by numerical analysis are higher than those of hexagonal array and by theoretical analysis respectively. The reinforcing effects of interphase are more significant in cases of higher fiber volume fraction and circular fiber shape. Not only the spatial distribution and shape of reinforcing fiber but also the volume of interphase have a pronounced effects on the overall LSM. It is also found that the tangent moduous of 2-and 3-phase polymer matrix composites is insensitive to the shape and distribution of reinforcing fibers.

Ductile fracture of dual phase steel begins with void nucleation, at martensite-ferrite interface of deformed martensite particle. In this study, void nucleation, growth, and coalescence under various strain were studied in dual phase steel. Therefore, by means of the heat treatment of low carbon steel, the study deals with void nucleation and growth for ferrite grain size and martensite volume fraction of dual phase steel using statistical method. Void nucleation and growth with increasing strain are shown depend upon the ferrite grain size. Voids volume fraction generally increase as ferrite grain size decease.

Heterophase polymer system has been attractive for a potential applicability to gas separation membrane material. It has been known that there is a trade-off between gas permeability and its selectivity in common polymers. Therefore, the heterophase polymer can be an alternative for a gas separation membrane material because its transport properties can be readily controlled by blending of two different polymers. The transport properties of immiscible polymer blends strongly depend upon the intrinsic transport properties of corresponding polymers. Another important factor to determine the transport properties is their morphology: volume fraction, size and shape of dispersed phase. Although the effect of the volume fraction of the dispersed phase on the transport properties has been widely investigated, the size and shape effects have been paid attention very much. In an immiscible polymer blend of two polymers, its morphology is primarily controlled by its volume fraction of dispersed phase. Therefore, the effect of the size of the dispersed phase can be hardly seen. Therefore, a block copolymer has been commonly employed to control their morphology when each block is miscible with one or the other phase. In this work, gas transport properties will be measured by varying the morphology of the heterophase polymer membrane. The transport properties will be interpreted in terms of their morphology. The effect of the volume fraction of the PI phase and, in particular, its size effect will be investigated experimentally and theoretically.

Use of dual phase steel are growing for its high strength and light weight in automobiles. The effect of the martensite volume fraction with various impact velocities on the strength, ductility and absorbed energy of dual phase (ferrite-martensite) steels were investigated in low carbon 1.5% Mn steels which were soaked at 700.deg. C, 730.deg. C, 780.deg. C, and brine quenched. Both the yield load and the maximum impact load increased when the martensite volume fraction increased, the loading time and the absorbed energy of the specimen decreased when the martensite volume fraction increased.
Based on the pore filling theory, the microstructure evolution during liquid-phase sintering has been analyzed in terms of interrelationship between average grain size and relative density. For constant liquid volume fraction, the microsturucture trajectories reduced to a single curve in a grain size(x)-density(y) map, regardless of grain growth constant. The slope of curves in the map was inversely proportional to average pore size, while it increased fapidly with liquid volume fraction. Increase in pore volume fraction retarded the densification considerably, but showed marginal effect on the slope. The activation energy of densification was predicted to be the same as that of grain growth as long as the liquid volume fraction is constant for any temperature range studied. The present analyses on microstricture evolution may demonstrate the usefulness of pore filling theory and provide a guideline for process optimization of liquid-phase sintering.
This study is to investigate the characteristics of fatigue crack propagation in rolled super duplex stainless steel that was changed austenite-ferrite volume fraction by heat treatment. It was used two kinds of specimen the rolling and the transverse directions δ-phase fraction affected sound velocity hardness and Young's modulus. Characteristics of fatigue crack propagation was affected by anisotropy and (δ+γ) phase volume fractions.
Not only difference of fatigue crack growth and propagation behavior resulted from the grain size, the hardness ratio and volume fraction in M.E.F. dual phase steel composed of martensite in hard phase and ferrite in soft phase, but also the effects of the plastic constraint were investigated by fracture mechanics and microstructural method. The main results obtained are as follows: 1) The fatigue endurance of M.E.F. steel increases with decreasing the grain size, increasing the ratio of hardness and volume fraction. 2) The initiation of slip and crack occures faster as the stress level goes higher. These phenomena result from the plastic constraint effect of the second phase. 3) The crack propagation rate in the constant stress level is faster as the grain size gets larger, the ratio of hardness lower and volume fraction smaller.
This study aims a investigating the effect of volume fraction of chromium carbide phase(VFC) of hardfaced iron/chromium alloys on fracture toughness. The alloys were deposited twice on a mild steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding process. In order to examine VFC effect, different VFC (0.28∼0.62) were employed by changing the Cr and C content, while the ratio of Cr/C was fixed in the range of 5.7∼6.6. Fracture toughness was constant as increasing VFC because fracture surface was developed in the eutectic phase which was growing parallel with introduced sharp notch in the hypoeutectic alloys, but fracture toughness did not decreased in spite of increasing volume fraction of coarse primary chromium carbide phase which was easily craced at the low stress because the growth direction of chromium carbide phase were more irregular as increasing VFC in the hypereutectic alloys.
