Design and Implementation of QPSK Receiver Using Six-Port Direct Conversion (Six-Port 직접 변환을 이용한 QPSK 수신기 설계 및 제작)

  • A simple six-port direct conversion QPSK receiver which is made up of a six-port phase correlator, a signal power detector, and I/Q channel signal de-modulator is designed and implemented in this paper. The output phase signals of six-port phase correlator are also analysed. On the basis of $90^{\circ}C$ phase relation among the six-port phase correlator output signals, the QPSK de-modulation circuit is designed by a simple circuit. The six-port phase correlator is made up of $90^{\circ}$ hybrid branch line and power detector. The six-port phase correlator, which is designed in frequency range of 11.7 to 12.0 GHz, gets the phase error characteristics less than $5^{\circ}$. By considering matching network and amplitude balance in the designed fiequency range, the designed six-port direct conversion QPSK receiver demodulates the I and Q signals with performance less than $5^{\circ}$ phase error.

VLSI Implementation of CORDIC-Based Digital Quadrature Demodulator (CORDIC을 이용한 디지탈 Quadrature 복조기의 VLSI 구현)

  • Digital quadrature demodulator is needed for the coherent demodulation in the digital communication systems such as Binary Phase-Shift-Keying, Quadrature Phase-Shift-Keying, and Quadrature Anmplitude Modulation. Conventaionally, the DDFS (Direct Digital Frequency Synthsizer) is used for generating the carrier signal and seperate multi-pliers are used for mixing. And the DDFS is implemented using the ROM (Read Only Memory), which can be a bottle-neck neck when the fast-speed and small-area implementation is required. A new architecture is developed, which employs the circular rotation mode of the CORDIC algorithm for signal mixing as well as carrier generation. To optimize the hardware design parameters, the finiteword-length effects of the proposed implementation arachitecture are analyzed in comparison with a conventional ROM-based architecture. The hardware costs are also estimated, which showed that the proposed architecture occupies only a third of the area of the conventional ROM-based architecture for the same performance. A full-custom VLSI is developed using the proposed architecture.

  • This paper implements RFID(radio-frequency identification)System to which the system was apply SS(Spread Spectrum) method. The system designed by using the algorithm for microprocessor with PLL of the receiver, PN spread, modulation and demodulation of the transceiver, and transistor amplifier for the output of stabilized BPSK (Binary Phase Shift Keying) signal. furthermore, it reduced the interference of the signal by designing the micro-strip narrow banded patch antenna, which is convenient for printing and producing, and decreased the volume of filter size in the system. It is also designed for the lower powered system with the possible application to UHF band of $860\sim930MHz$ for the international standard frequency band, which is the quota share of RFID distribution system.

  • Convergence of IT and BT is considered in many area, especially in medical care industry. The example of this trend is a capsule endoscope. But in a capsule endoscope, communication through human body has a few restrictions. At first, the transmit power should be limited not to have a bad effect on human organs and for the battery capacity. Second, the channel characteristic of human body has not been examined exactly. Third, general modulation / demodulation techniques which require a channel estimation cannot be used because of battery limit. There also may be a lot of interference signals because a capsule endoscope uses UWB bandwidth. In this paper, we introduce Chirp Spread Spectrum Differential Binary Phase Shift Keying(CSS-DBPSK) and propose Chirp Spread Spectrum On-Off Keying(CSS-OOK) which don't require a channel estimation and robust to interference signals. Using CSS-DBPSK or CSS-OOK, we can get 5 dB or 2~3 dB of Eb/N0 gain at 10-5 target BER. And if there are interference signals, those gains of CSS-DBPSK and CSS-OOK are increased.

DDS를 이용한 중단파대 국ㆍ영문용 DSC/NBDP 개발에 관한 연구

  • In this paper, the needs for introduction and adoption of MㆍHF DSC/NBDP system and for developments of its circuits and call sequences for use in the maritime mobile services for small-ships, leisure-ships and fishing ships are analyzed, discussed. Also design and implement for MㆍHF(1.6-4MHz) DSC/NBDP system is discussed. Most of casualties have been arisen from small-ships and fishing ships during last 5 years. So, the SAR schematic plans should been prepared to prevent casualties and facilitate the activities of SAR for those ships. DSC/NBDP for MㆍHF system is able to fulfill the roles of efficient SAR communication functions, and to advance the SAR system to small ships and fishing ships. This study is focused on the techniques of processing the DSC call sequences and the ARQ sequences of NBDP system. Especially ARQ sequences are expanded into processing of Korean letters, designed the call sequences and code conversion algorithm for Korean-code. It will be evaluated the availability of Korean-NBDP system. In designing the Transmitting circuits and Receiving circuits, for the carrier generation, DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) is used in stead of the Phase Locked Loop and frequency conversion by the mixer, BPF. And PSK modulation signals are directly generated by the controls of DDS, which show the characteristics of Spurious Free Dynamic Range are below -62dBc. Also, the monolithic U subsystem IC which provides various functional components, AD608 is used for designing the receiving circuitsㆍAnd the algorithm of Phasing methode for FSK demodulation are devised to process IF frequency 455kHz in the IF circuits.

  • This paper deals with an analysis of multipath which affect a transmission performance in underwater acoustic channel. For the test of autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV), underwater acoustic channel with multipath structure is introduced to mathmatical modelling for a basin environment. In this paper, SMR(Signal to Multipath Ratio) which is defined as a parameter of mulipath's effect is presented as a mathmatical equation, and the equation or SMR is simulated by MATLAB program.

  • In this paper, we implemented QPSK(Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying) modem which is widely used for communication systems, using a general Digital Signal Processor(DSP), TM320C31. Up to now, almost all of communication systems consist of hardware. However, the implemented system herein is composed of software and hardware part. Software part includes the modulation process, before passing D/A(Digital-to-Analog Converter) and the demodulation process, after passing A/D(Analog-to-Digital Converter) in IF(Intermediate Frequency) node. Hardware part is related to input, output and process of signal. To demonstrate the successful implementation of modem, the output results obtained from DSP processor are compared with the simulated result on the personal computer.

  • A software-driven real-time frequency de-modulator is implemented with the aid of universal-serial-bus (USB) type software defined radio dongle. An analog stereo frequency modulation (FM) broadcast signal is down-converted to the basedband analog signal then converted to digital bit streams in the USB dongle. Computer software such as Matlab, Python, and GNU Radio manipulates the incoming bit streams with the technique of digital signal processing. Low pass filtering, band pass filtering, decimation, frequency discriminator, double sideband amplitude demodulation, phase locked loop, and deemphasis function blocks are implemented using such computer languages. Especially, GNU Radion is employed to realize the real-time demodulator.

A Study on Modulation Classification of PSK Signals Based on Statistical Moments (통계적 모먼트에 의한 PSK 신호의 변조분류에 관한 연구)

  • Modulation type classifier based on statistical moments has been successfully employed to classify PSK signals. Previously, the classifier developed utilizes the statistical moment of samples of the received signal phase, which may be difficult to extract from received signal. In this paper we propose a new moments-based classifier to classify PSK signals by using the moments of the demodulated signal for PSK. THe demodulated signal can be easily extracted from the conventional demodulation of PSK. The evaluation of the performance of the proposed classifier for PSK signals has been investigated in additive white Gaussian noise environment using the exact distribution of the demodulated signal. The performances of classifier in terms of probability of misclassification were evaluated. We found that the coherent system classifier gave 4dB improvement for BPSK and 3dB for QPSK over noncoherent system classifier, when the probability of misclassification is 10 and m equals to 4.

  • Recently, the demand of broadband communications such as high-speed internet, HDTV, 3D-HDTV and ATM backbone network has been increased drastically. For transmitting the broad-bandwidth data using wireless network, it is needed to use ka-band frequency. However, the use of this ka-band frequency is seriously affected to the received data performance by rain fading and atmospheric propagation loss at the Ka-band satellite communication link. So, we need adaptive MODEM to endure the degraded performance by channel environment. In this paper, we will present the structure and design of the 155Mbps adaptive Modem adaptively compensated against channel environment. In order to compensate the rain attenuation over the ka-band wireless channel link, the adaptive coding schemes with variable coding rates and the multiple modulation schemes such as trellis coded 8-PSK, QPSK, and BPSK are adopted. And the blind demodulation scheme is proposed to demodulate without Information of modulation mode at the multi-mode demodulator, and the fast phase ambiguity resolving scheme is proposed. The design and simulation results of adaptive Modem by SPW model are provided. This 155Mbps adaptive MODEM was designed and implemented by single ASIC chip with the $0.25\mu{m}$ CMOS standard cell technology and 950 thousand gates.
