  • In this paper, we propose a class of polyphase signature sequences, whose general odd correlation properties are useful for 4-phase signaling systems. The performance of the direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems using the proposed sequences is compared with that using binary pseudo-noise sequences. The performance of the system using the proposed sequence is shown to be better than that using other conventional sequences both from the worst-case analysis and bit error rate simulations.

  • We propose a novel approach to measure the residual phase noise (RPN) of a photodiode (PD) based on a two-tone correlation method. Compared with the previous measurements of the RPNs of PDs, this method is more convenient in practical application. In this method, two microwave sources and other components were placed in two isolated links sharing the same PD, so the noises of them were uncorrelated. With an FFT analyzer, the uncorrelated noises could be mostly suppressed while only the RPN of the PD was preserved. Voltage-dependent nonlinearities of PDs were studied previously. In this letter, we investigate the relationship between the RPN of the PD and the bias voltage on the PD. By changing the bias voltage, the difference of the RPN can be up to 10 dB.

  • Under General anesthesia with isoflurane, we insert a chicken's esophageal catheter into the near the left atrium. 1MHz radio wave was added to electrocardiogram electrodes of the esophagus, and the change of impedance (phase) was obtained by amplitude synchronous detection technique. At the same time, a thin tube is surgically inserted into the axillary artery to continuously measure blood pressure. The correlation between impedance (phase) and blood pressure was obtained. Both showed a very high correlation (R2=0.9665). It was also observed the waveform flowing from the left atrium into the left ventricle. When an individual infected with the avian influenza virus develops, the cytokine storms lead to hypotension earlier than the test for antigen-antibody reaction. In order to detect this, in the future, this impedance technique will be useful for screening individuals infected with avian influenza virus by measuring the blood pressure of chickens in cages in a non-contact manner using microwaves.

  • In this study, we propose a method to improve the accuracy of acoustic odometry using optimal frame interval selection for Fourier-based image registration. The accuracy of acoustic odometry is related to the phase correlation result of image pairs obtained from the forward-looking sonar (FLS). Phase correlation failure is caused by spurious peaks and high-similarity image pairs that can be prevented by optimal frame interval selection. We proposed a method of selecting the optimal frame interval by analyzing the factors affecting phase correlation. Acoustic odometry error was reduced by selecting the optimal frame interval. The proposed method was verified using field data.

  • This study investigated the differences between emotional parameters BDI, VHI, STAI-X-I and STAI-X-II according to the menstrual cycles of the female and the relation between changes of the depression index and voice characteristics (jitter, shimmer, CPP, HNR, $pF0{\cdot}F1{\cdot}F2{\cdot}F3$, sF0, sF4, sB1, $H1_{c/u}$, $A1_u$, $A3_c$, $H1A3_{c/u}$, $H1A1_u$). Twenty three females ($30{\pm}4.4$ years old) living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were participated in this study to answer the questionnaires and record their voice. The participants prolonged /a/ vowel for 5 seconds in a natural condition for their voice recording. Voice data were analyzed using the Matlab and Praat program. A t-test and a correlation analysis were conducted by using SPSS for the statistical analysis. The results are as follows. First, the BDI is significantly higher in group I (lurear phase contrast the menstrual period) and group II (follicular phase against the menstrual period) than group III (luteal phase for follicular phase) (p<.05). Second, shimmer, CPP, pF0 showed a statistically high correlation regarding the BDI in group I (lurear phase contrast the menstrual period). Voice parameters may be useful as supplement in evaluating the emotional change in the phase of menstrual cycle.

  • This review article described the electrochemical Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) and deuterium (OPD D) for the cathodic $H_2$ and $D_2$ evolution reactions (HER, DER) at Pt, Ir, Pt-Ir alloy, Pd, Au, and Re/normal ($H_2O$) and heavy water ($D_2O$) solution interfaces. The Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of intermediates (OPD H, OPD D, etc.) for sequential reactions (HER, DER, etc.) at electrode/solution interfaces are determined using the phase-shift method and correlation constants, which have been suggested and developed by Chun et al. The basic procedure of the phase-shift method, the Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of OPD H and OPD D and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic parameters, i.e., the fractional surface coverage ($0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}1$) vs. potential (E) behavior (${\theta}$ vs. E), equilibrium constant (K), interaction parameter (g), standard Gibbs energy (${\Delta}G_{\theta}{^{\circ}}$) of adsorption, and rate (r) of change of ${\Delta}G_{\theta}{^{\circ}}$ with ${\theta}$ ($0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}1$), at the interfaces are briefly interpreted and summarized. The phase-shift method and correlation constants are useful and effective techniques to determine the Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic parameters (${\theta}$ vs. E, K, g, ${\Delta}G_{\theta}{^{\circ}}$, r) at electrode/solution interfaces.

  • Growth factors and the receptors play an important role in the regulation of the growth and development of mammalian cells. In particular, epidermal growth factor is a polypeptide with potent mitogenic activity that stimulates proliferation of various normal and neoplastic cells through the interaction with its specific receptor(EGFR). EGFR has been described as a parameter of poor prognosis in many human neoplasms such as breast, bladder, and vulvar cancers. The objectives of this study are the evaluation of the expression of EGFR and cell cycle analysis in the head and neck squamous cell carcinomas(SCC), and the evaluation of the correlation between clinico-patholgic features and expression of EGFR and S-phase fraction. 37 head and neck squamous cell carcinoma specimens were evaluated for expression of EGFR by Western blot analysis and S-phase fraction by cell cycle analysis using the flow cytometry. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The expressions of EGFR were observed in 20 specimens(54%) among 37 head and neck SCC specimens. In case of oral SCC, 15 specimens(56%) out of 27 specimens were observed, and in case of nasopharyngeal SCC 5 specimens(50%) out of 10 specimens. 2. There was no correlation between clinical features(location, stage) of head and neck SCC and expression of EGFR (p>0.05). 3. There was a significant correlation between histo-pathological differentiation of head and neck SCC and expression of EGFR (p<0.02). 4. There was a significant correlation between expression of EGFR and S-phase fraction of cell cycle in the head and neck SCC (p<0.05). The above results suggest that expression of EGFR and S-phase fraction of cell cycle are adjunctive prognostic marker in the head and neck squamous cell carcinomas.

  • We propose a methods which is reducing direction estimation error of sound source in the reverberant and noisy environments. The proposed algorithm divides speech signal into voice and unvoice using VAD. We estimate the direction of source when current frame is voiced. TDOA (Time-Difference of Arrival) between microphone array using the GCC-PHAT (Generalized Cross Correlation with Phase Transform) method will be estimated in that frame. Then, we compare the peak value of cross-correlation of two signals applied to estimated time-delay with other time-delay in time-table in order to improve the accuracy of source location. If the angle of current frame is far different from before and after frame in successive voiced frame, the angle of current frame is replaced with mean value of the estimated angle in before and after frames.

  • Critical two-phase flow rates of subcooled water through very short tube (L=20 mm) with small diameters (D=1.0 mm) has been measured for wide ranges of subcooling(0~186$^{\circ}C$) and pressure (0.5~2.0 MPa). Experimental results show that subcooled critical two-phase flow rates can be expressed in terms of two scaling parameters for geometries and initial conditions. They are discharge coefficient of cold water, ( $C_{d}$ )$_{ref}$, and dimensionless subcooling, $\Delta$ $T^{*}$$_{sub}$, respectively. A new empirical correlation expressed in terms of ( $C_{d}$ )$_{ref}$ and $\Delta$ $T^{*}$$_{sub}$ is obtained for subcooled two-phase flow rates through very short length tube. Comparisons between the mass fluxes calculated by Present correlation and a number of experimental data show that the agreement is very good.ood.ood.ood.

  • Research on calibration of array antenna has become a hot spot in the area of signal processing and it is necessary to obtain the phase mismatch of each antenna channel. This paper presents a new calibration method for an array antenna system. In order to calibrate the phase mismatch of each antenna channel, we used primary synchronization signal (PSS) which exists in LTE downlink frame. Primary synchronization signal (PSS) is based on a Zadoff-Chu sequence which has a good correlation characteristic. By using correlation calculation, we can extract primary synchronization signal (PSS). After extracting primary synchronization signal (PSS), we use it to calibrate and reduce the phase errors of each antenna channel. In order to verify the new array antenna calibration algorithm which is proposed in this paper, we have simulated the proposed algorithm by using MATLAB. The array antenna system consists of two antenna elements. The phase mismatch of first antenna and second antenna is calculated accurately by proposed algorithm in the experiment test. Theory analysis and MATLAB simulation results are shown to verify the calibration algorithm.
