A Study on Modulation Classification of PSK Signals Based on Statistical Moments (통계적 모먼트에 의한 PSK 신호의 변조분류에 관한 연구)

  • Modulation type classifier based on statistical moments has been successfully employed to classify PSK signals. Previously, the classifier developed utilizes the statistical moment of samples of the received signal phase, which may be difficult to extract from received signal. In this paper we propose a new moments-based classifier to classify PSK signals by using the moments of the demodulated signal for PSK. THe demodulated signal can be easily extracted from the conventional demodulation of PSK. The evaluation of the performance of the proposed classifier for PSK signals has been investigated in additive white Gaussian noise environment using the exact distribution of the demodulated signal. The performances of classifier in terms of probability of misclassification were evaluated. We found that the coherent system classifier gave 4dB improvement for BPSK and 3dB for QPSK over noncoherent system classifier, when the probability of misclassification is 10 and m equals to 4.

  • Holography technology which was developed by Dennis Gabor (1900~1979) in 1948 is a technology to record wave planes of actual 3D objects. It is known as the only technology which can express 3D information most perfectly close to human-friendly. Holography technology is widely used in advertisement, architecture and arts as well as science technology areas. Especially, digital holographic print which is an applied area is greatly used in military map, architecture map and cultural asset restoration by printing and reproducing 3D information. Holography is realized by recording and reproducing the amplitude and phase information on high resolution film using coherent light like laser. Recording materials for digital holographic printer are silver halide, photoresist and photopolymer. Because the materials have different diffraction efficiency according to film characteristics of each manufacturer, appropriate guide lines should be suggested through efficiency analysis of each film. This paper suggests appropriate guide lines through the diffraction efficiency measurement of silver halide which is a holographic printer recording medium. And the objective of this study is to suggest appropriate guide lines through diffraction efficiency analysis of Ultimate 08-C and PFG-03C which are commercially used. The experiment was prepared by self-diffraction efficiency system which measures the strength with the defector by penetrating RGB recording medium and concentrating diffracted beams through collimating lens. The experiment showed Geola's PFG-03C which is a silver halide for full color has price/performance advantage in optical hologram recording, but recording angles and reproduction angles are irregular for digital holographic printer recording. Ultimate's Ultimate08-C for full color shows its diffraction efficiency is relatively stable and high according to recording angles and laser wavelength.

A High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy Study of the Grain Growth of the Crystalline Silicon in Amorphous Silicon Thin Films (비정질 실리콘 박막에서 결정상 실리콘의 입자성장에 관한 고분해능 투과전자현미경에 의한 연구)

  • A high-resolution transmission electron microscopy study of the solid phase crystallization of the amorphous silicon thin films, deposited on SiOS12T at 52$0^{\circ}C$ by low pressure chemical vapor deposition and annealed at 55$0^{\circ}C$ in a dry N$_{2}$ ambient was carried out so that the arrangement of atoms in the crystalline silicon and at the amorphous/crystalline interface of the growing grains could be understood on an atomic level. Results show that circular crystalline silicon nuclei have formed and then the grains grow to an elliptical or dendritic shape. In the interior of all the grains many twins whose{111} coherent boundaries are parallel to the long axes of the grains are observed. From this result, it is concluded that the twins enhance the preferential grain growth in the <112> direction along {111} twin planes. In addition to the twins. many defect such as intrinsic stacking faults, extrinsic stacking faults, and Shockley partial dislocations, which can be formed by the errors in the stacking sequence or by the dissociation of the perfect dislocation are found in the silicon grain. But neither frank partial dislocations which can be formed by the condensation of excess silicon atoms or vacancies and can form stacking fault nor perfect dislocations which can be formed by the plastic deformation are observed. So it is concluded that most defects in the silicon grain are formed by the errors in the stacking sequence during the crystallization process of the amorphous silicon thin films.

Long-term Trends in Pelagic Environments of the East Sea Ecosystem

  • Physical and biological environmental variations in the East Sea were investigated by analysing time-series of oceanographic data and meteorological indices. From 1971 to 2000, dominant periodicity in water temperature variations had two apparent periods of 3 to 4 years and of decades, especially in the southwestern part of the East Sea affected by the influence of inflowing Tsushima warm current. Fluctuating water temperature within a certain period appears to respond to El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ events with a time lag. It was found that there was a strong correlation between water temperature and El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ events with a time lag of 1.5 and 5.5 years for periods of 3 to 6 years and of decades, respectively. Corresponding with El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ events, water temperature variability also showed strong correlation with shift and/or changes in biological and chemical environments of nutrient concentrations, zooplankton biomass, and fisheries. However, there also occurred a short-term periodicity of water temperature variations. Within a period of 1 to 4 years, a relatively short-term cycle of water temperature variation had strong correlation with other climate indices such as Pacific Decadal Oscillation and monsoon index. After comparing coherence and phase spectrum between water temperature and different climate indices, we found that there was a shift of coherent periods to another climate index during the years when climate regime shift was reported.

  • MAI(Multi-Access Interference) and fast channel variation due to the fading environment are the major problems in the mobile CDMA communication systems. Recently, interest has been increasing in applying the Adaptive Linear MMSE Detector to MAI cancellation in the CDMA reverse link. In this paper, we propose a modified Adaptive Linear MMSE Detector structure which can be used in Long-duration code CDMA system in the presence of independent Rayleigh fading. We use independent multiple tap-weight vector structure to cope with the variation of spreading sequence pattern between neighbor symbols because of the Long-duration code. In this case, more exact channel parameter estimation is required. To solve this problem, we use coherent CDMA structure which can track the channel parameters like amplitude and phase by employing the low power pilot channel in the CDMA reverse link.

Variation and Structure of the Cold Water Around Ganjeol Point Off the Southeast Coast of Korea (하계 용승현상에 따른 간절곶 주변해역의 냉수역 구조와 변동)

  • The variation and structure of the cold water mass around Ganjeol Point during the summer of 2011 were studied using data from CTD observations and temperature monitoring buoys deployed at 20 stations off the southeast coast of Korea. There was a $-12^{\circ}C$ surface temperature difference between the cold water mass and normal water during the monitoring period. Variations in the isothermal lines for surface temperature along the coast showed that the seabed topography at Ganjeol Point played an important part in the distribution of water temperature. Cold water appeared when the wind components running parallel to the coast had positive values. The upwelling -response for temperature fluctuations was very sensitive to changes in wind direction. Vertical turbulent mixing due to the seabed topography at Ganjeol Point can reinforce the upwelling of cold bottom water. From wavelet analysis, coherent periods found to be 2-8 days during frequent upwelling events and phase differences for a decrease in water temperature with a SSW wind were 12-36 hours.

Temperature Dependent Terahertz Generation at Periodically Poled Stoichiometric Lithium Tantalate Crystal Using Femtosecond Laser Pulses

  • Coherent tunable terahertz generation was demonstrated in periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal via difference frequency generation of femtosecond laser pulses. Simultaneous forward and backward terahertz radiations were obtained around 1.35 and 0.63 THz, respectively at low temperature. By cooling the crystal to reduce losses caused by phonon absorptions, the generated THz bandwidth was as narrow as 23GHz at the center frequency of 0.63 THz. The measurement result of temperature-dependent showed gradual intensity increase of the generated terahertz pulse and red shift of the center frequency as the temperature decrease from 291 to 143 K, but insignificant reduction of the spectral bandwidth. Furthermore, the stoichiometric crystal was very suitable for the suppression of THz loss at low temperature compared to the congruent $LiNbO_3$ crystal.

  • The Talbot effect for periodic objects with the spatial period p illuminated by expanded coherent light is analyzed by Fresnel diffraction theory, and the Talbot distance (Zr) at which we can observe 1: 1 imaging without any lenses can be defined. We confmned experimentally the Talbot imaging of line, circular, X -type and '||'&'||'copy;-type 2 dimensional alTay gratings at ZT. At the same time, we observed phase reversed Talbot imaging at Zr/2 and Talbot subimage with p/2 at Zr/4 and 3Zr/4. The visibility of Talbot images as a function of the number of slits of the input grating was measured by the FFf (Fast Fourier Transform) results of these images. As a result stationary maximum visibility of V = 0.25 was obtained from grating numbers with more than 15 slit pairs.

  • If two signals with the same single-tone frequency and differing phases impinge simultaneously on an antenna at slightly differing angles, then a large error in the angle estimation might occur if the phase difference is either $0^{\circ}$ or $180^{\circ}$. This phenomenon might arise with an airborne fire-control radar, which has a relatively small bandwidth, for a low-flying target over the sea or terrain surface. In this paper, we show that the $Cram{\acute{e}}r$-Rao lower bound for such a target can be significantly lowered with the use of two frequencies.

  • Since radar wind profiler (RWP) provides wind field data with high time and space resolution in all weather conditions, their verification of the accuracy and quality is essential. The simultaneous wind measurement from rawinsonde is commonly used to evaluate wind vectors from RWP. In this study, the simulation algorithm which produces the spectrum and raw time series (I/Q) data from the average values of moments is presented as a step-by-step verification method for the signal processing algorithm. The possibility of the simulation algorithm was also confirmed through comparison with the raw data of LAP-3000. The Doppler power spectrum was generated by assuming the density function of the skew-normal distribution and by using the moment values as the parameter. The simulated spectrum was generated through random numbers. In addition, the coherent averaged I/Q data was generated by random phase and inverse discrete Fourier transform, and raw I/Q data was generated through the Dirichlet distribution.
