  • We demonstrate coherent x-ray diffraction imaging using table-top x-ray laser at a wavelength of 13.9nm driven by 10-Hz ti:Sapphire laser system at the Advanced Photonics Research Institute in Korea. Since the flux of x-ray photons reaches as high as $10^9$ photons/pulse in a $20{\times}20{\mu}m^2$ field of view, we measured a ingle-pulse diffraction pattern of a micrometer-scale object with high dynamic range of diffraction intensities and successfully reconstructed to the image using phase retrieval algorithm with an oversampling ratio of 1:6. the imaging resolution is $^{\sim}150$ nm, while that is much improved by stacking the many diffraction patterns. This demonstration can be extended to the biological sample with the diffraction limited resolution.

  • This paper presents a novel unified DC offset cancellation and I/Q regeneration for five-port junction based direct receivers. It utilizes the symmetry characteristics of the single-frequency continuous-wave (CW) signal, making it possible that the proposed method can be used regardless of carrier phase offset. The proposed method eliminates the additional DC offset cancellation and reduces the I/Q regeneration parameter estimation time. Since the proposed method employs a single-frequency CW signal independent of the modulation scheme, five-port junction based direct receivers can be used for the demodulation of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing and continuous phase modulation as well as phase shift-keying.

  • MultiCode-CDMA (MC-CDMA) system of chip level MPSK incorporating with clipper (MP-CDMA)[l] shows constant envelope signal which can mitigate the performance degradation due to nonlinear transmit amplifier. In this paper, modulation is modified to carry out differential encoded MPSK rather than MPSK. The modified system is called DMP-CDMA. DMP-CDMA using differential detection has advantages on receiver complexity and pilot overhead. However, it is inferior to coherent detection by about 4.0dB due to inherent power inefficiency of noncoherent detection and the error propagation. Multiple symbol differential detection is employed in order to improve DMP-CDMA using differential detection. As the result, the performance of DMP-CDMA system is improved about 3.6dB compared to differential detection.

  • We present one-color nonlinear wavepacket interferometry (WPI) signal calculations for a system of two electronic levels and one vibrational degree of freedom. We consider two cases, a displaced harmonic oscillator system, which can be treated analytically, and a model photodissociative system, whose WPI signal must be calculated by numerical wavepacket propagation. We show how signals obtained with different combinations of intrapulse-pair phase shifts can be combined to isolate the complex-valued overlap between a given onepulse target wavepacket and a variable three-pulse reference wavepacket. We demonstrate that with a range of inter- and intrapulse-pair delays the complex overlaps and variable reference states can be used to reconstruct the target wavepacket. We compare our results with previous methods for vibronic state reconstruction based on linear WPI and discuss further generalizations of our method.

  • This paper presents and analyses the closed-form expression of the average bit error rate (BER) for an asynchronous direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system with coherent binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation scheme using a maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity over a Rician fading channel. In addition to the average BER, outage probability, and user capacity of system are estimated as performance measures. The results are general enough so that it includes Rayleigh fading and nonfading channel with zero and infinite Rician factor, respectively, as special cases. The effects of various channel models, processing gains, and diversity orders on the system performances are also considered for the typical multipath delay profiles characterized by Rician fading channel.

  • Dual-wavelength holography has a better axial range than single-wavelength holography, allowing unambiguous phase imaging. Partial coherence sources reduce coherent noise, resulting in improved reconstructed images. We measured a ball-grid array using dual-wavelength holography with partial coherence sources. This holography method is useful for measurement samples that exhibit coherence noise and have a step height larger than the single wavelength used in holography.

  • Resonance fluorescence is the manifestation of the interaction between the physical system under consideration and the vacuum-field fluctuation. The fluorescence spectrum provides such physical informations as the energy-level structure of the system, instabilities and relative populations of the energy levels, etc.. One of the typical fluorescence spectra is the Mollow triplet appearing when two-level atoms are driven by a strong coherent field in free space$^{(1)}$ . In the weak field limit, the singlet instead of the triplet is obtained with a reduced linewidth due to the squeezing of one quadrature phase of the induced atomic dipole$^{(2)}$ . On the other hand, when the atoms are put inside a cavity rather than in free space, a doublet spectrum due to the vacuum Rabi-splitting is achieved, showing clearly the coupling of atoms and the cavity in the single-quantum limit$^{(3)}$ . • The PAL (Pohang Accelerator Laboratory) is persuading to construct a SASE-XFEL facility (PAL XFEL) that supplies coherent X-rays. The bright and stable electron beam is essential for the PAL XEL. The electron beams has to have an emittance of 1.0 mm-mrad, a peak current of 3 kA, and a low energy spread of 1.0 MeV. In order to provide reasonably stable SASE output, the RF stability of 0.02% rms is required for both RF phase and amplitude. This is a technologically challenging issue for PAL XFEL. An inverter technology is to be applied to charge the PFN of a new modulator. Therefore, a new inverter system should provide very stable charging performances. This paper presents the development of an ultra stable klystron-modulator with an inverter power supply.

  • This paper describes a measuring method of vibration mode shapes by the Electronic Shearography. This method called the speckle interferometer has many merits in practical use, such as low sensitivity to environmental noise, low limit of coherent-length and simple optical configuration. In this study, we developed Michelson-type shearing interferometer provided with a phase stepping mirror and with a bias modulation mirror to quantify the vibration gradient fields. Results of application to a simple cantilever plate show that the vibration amplitude fields obtained are in good agreement with those of the electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI).
