A Topic Classification System Based on Clue Expressions for Person-Related Questions and Passages (단서표현 기반의 인물관련 질의-응답문 문장 주제 분류 시스템)

  • In general, Q&A system retrieves passages by matching terms of a question in order to find an answer to the question. However it is difficult for Q&A system to find a correct answer because too many passages are retrieved and matching using terms is not enough to rank them according to their relevancy to a question. To alleviate this problem, we introduce a topic for a sentence, and adopt it for ranking in Q&A system. We define a set of person-related topic class and a clue expression which can indicate a topic of a sentence. A topic classification system proposed in this paper can determine a target topic for an input sentence by using clue expressions, which are manually collected from a corpus. We explain an architecture of the topic classification system and evaluate the performance of the components of this system.

Curriculum Relevance Analysis of Physics Book Report Text Using Topic Modeling (토픽모델링을 활용한 물리학 독서감상문 텍스트의 교육과정 연계성 분석)

  • This study analyzed the relevance of the curriculum by applying topic modeling to book reports written as content area reading activities in the 'physics' class. In order to carry out the research, 332 physics book reports were collected to analyze the relevance among keywords and topics were extracted using STM. The result of the analysis showed that the main keywords of the physics book reports were 'thought', 'content', 'explain', 'theory', 'person', 'understanding'. To examine the influence and connection relationship of the derived keywords, the study presented degree centrality, between centrality, and eigenvetor centrality. As a result of the topic modeling analysis, eleven topics related to the physics curriculum were extracted, and the curriculum linkage could be drawn in three subjects (Physics I, Physics II, Science History), and six areas (force and motion, modern physics, wave, heat and energy, Western science history, and What is science). The analyzed results can be used as evidence for a more systematic implementation of content area reading activities which reflect the subject characteristics in the future.

Direction in Health Education of Drinking Prevention for Elementary School Children (초등학생의 음주예방 보건교육 방향에 관한 연구 - 초등학교 교사들의 의견을 기반으로 -)

  • In order to provide a desirable direction for the health education on preventing drinking of elementary school students. by understanding the views held by elementary school teachers on drinking prevention education. 529 teachers at elementary schools located in Seoul were responded by constructed questionnaires during the period of Nov. 15 to Dec. 18 1999. The results of the survey analysis were as follows: 1. $84.6\%$ of the respondents said that schools should offer education programs on preventing drinking, and this view was more strongly shared by teachers with religions than non-religious ones. 2. $35.0\%$ of teachers responded that the education should start with 6th graders, while $28.3\%$ opted for 4th to 5th grades. With regard to the appropriate class in providing such education, $41.0\%$ selected physical education (PE), followed by extracurricular activity class with $35.4\%.\; 45.6\%$ of the respondents said discussion would be the most effective education method. while $35.4\%$ recommended using experiments. Growth and developmental defect and fall in diseases were pointed out as the most interesting topic for students by $39.4%$ and $31.2\%$ of the surveyed, respectively. As for the most effective media for education, $56.0\%$ recommended video, followed by cartoons $(21.5\%)$ and computer games $(19.5\%),\;63.7\%$ of the teachers picked school nurses as the most appropriate person in carrying out the education. The results of the finding show that it would be most desirable to provide health education on preventing drinking to senior elementary schoolers during the PE or extracurricular activity class by school nurses. The program would be structured to first show video clips on growth and developmental defect or fall in diseases resulting from drinking and to have discussions or experiments on related matters.

The results of the survey analysis were as follows: 1. 91.9% of the respondents said that schools should offer education programs on preventing smoking, and this view was more strongly shared by teachers with religions than non-religious ones. 2. 37.6% of teachers responded that the education should start with 4th-5th graders, while 36.0% opted for 6th grades. With regard to the appropriate class in providing such education, 41.1% selected physical education (PE), followed by extracurricular activity class with 28.8%, 45.1% of the respondents said discussion would be the most effective education method, while 39.9% recommended using experiments. fall in diseases and growth and developmental defect were pointed out as the most interesting topic for students by 33.2% and 28.1% of the surveyed, respectively. As for the most effective media for education, 57.2% recommended video, followed by computer games(19.2%) and cartoons (20.0%). 64.1% of the teachers picked school nurses as the most appropriate person in carrying out the education. The results of the finding show that it would be most desirable to provide health education on preventing smoking to senior elementary schoolers during the PE or extracurricular activity class by school nurses.
