Fouling by solids and microorganisms is the major obstacle limiting the efficient use of membrane wastewater treatment. In our previous study, two stages microalgae/membrane filtration system was proposed to treat anaerobic digested palm oil mill effluent (AnPOME). This two stages microalgae/membrane filtration system had showed great potential for the treatment of AnPOME with high removal of COD, $NH_3-N$, $PO_4{^{3-}}$, TSS, turbidity, and colour. However, fouling behavior of the membrane in this two stages microalgae/membrane filtration system was still unknown. In this study, empirical models that describe permeate flux decline for dead-end filtration (pore blocking - complete, intermediate, and standard; and cake layer formation) presented by Hermia were used to fit the experimental results in identifying the fouling mechanism under different experimental conditions. Both centrifuged and non-centrifuged samples were taken from the medium with 3 days RT intervals, from day 0 to day 12 to study their influence on fouling mechanisms described by Hermia for ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), and reverse osmosis (RO) filtration mode. Besides, a more detailed study on the use of resistance-in-series model for deadend filtration was done to investigate the fouling mechanisms involved in membrane filtration of AnPOME collected after microalgae treatment. The results showed that fouling of UF and NF membrane was mainly caused by cake layer formation and it was also supported by the analysis for resistance-in-series model. Whereas, fouling of RO membrane was dominated by concentration polarization.
Purpose: The area such as historic sites where distributed in the hills surrounded by the mountains in the past, if heavy rains occur, soil that distributed in the substructure of a sedimentary layer's permeability decreases therefore, water do not smoothly drainage and increases surface structures' moisture content. Therefore, many phenomena occur such as the muddy ground. This experiment tried to figure out the cause of poor drainage, predicting poor drainage system when rainfall occur. So not only the base of cultural properties distributed in the historic site, but also have big influences on the upper structure. Method: We are going to propose an improvement plan through the various sites exploration and the field permeability test. In addition, analyze interrelationship to figure out the cause of the poor drainage through monitoring under ground water. Conclusion: As the result of the experiment, the cause of the poor drainage system formed on shallow depth of ground level inside of a land. We can see that soil of surface and fill deposit permeability was in poor condition. Therefore, it was in very inappropriate hydrogeological condition when surface water permeate into the underground when rainfall occurs.
The self-designed membrane system was tested to examine the performance of the hollow fiber type polysulfone ultrafiltration(UF) membrane for the treatment of pure water(the 3rd treated water). The molecular weight cut-off's (MWCO) of the membranes used in this study were 5, 000 and 10, 000, respectively. The recovery rate, the ratio of permeate flow rate to the feed flow rate, increased as the temperature rose. The values of MWCO obtained in this study, using 2, 000 ppm polyethylene glycol and dextran solutions with various molecular weight, showed higher values than those suggested by SKI. Based on the results of the primary experiments, the water of the Gongji-stream, in which water quality is deteriorated by the inflow of domestic wastewater, was selected for the UF membrane test. Biological oxygen demand(BOD), total solids, and turbidity of the treated water had much lower values than those of the source water. Therefore, this study confirmed the possibility of the domestic water treatment using the hollow fiber type UF membrane.
Experimental and numerical analysis were performed for separation of carbon dioxide from carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas mixture using a polyethersulfone hollow fiber membrane. The experimental results were compared with those obtained at the same operating condition by the numerical analysis. It was observed that there was a big difference between the experimental results and those by a numerical analysis where the permeance of carbon dioxide and its ideal selectivity over nitrogen were obtained from the pure gas permeation. Therefore, the permeance of carbon dioxide and its selectivity were obtained from the separation experimental results using the numerical analysis as a function of the mole fraction of carbon dioxide, the feed pressure and the permeate pressure in the gas mixture. The results of the numerical analysis using the selectivity obtained from the gas mixture were in good agreement with those of the experimental.

The blend films of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) (PHB) with chitosan were prepared and water vapor transmission rate, oxygen permeability and lipid permeability of the PHB/chitosan films were measured. Additionally, the biodegradability of the PHB/chitosan films was also evaluated. Water vapor transmission rate and oxygen permeability of the films decreased by the addition of chitosan. The addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG, plasticizer), however, increased the water vapor transmission rate and oxygen permeability of the films. In the evaluation of lipid permeability, all the films except PHB (the film made of only PHB) and PHB-P (the film made of PHB and PEG) did not permeate beef tallow for 24 hours. The consumed oxygen for PHB/chitosan films during incubation was greater than that for the control on the biodegradability determination of the films, which implies that PHB/chitosan films were degraded by the microorganisms. The higher PHB ratio of the films was, the faster biodegradation of the films occurred.
The cell permeability and cytotoxic effects of different-sized zinc oxide (ZnO) particles were investigated using a human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line called Caco-2. Morphological observation by scanning electron microscopy revealed that three zinc oxides with different mean particle sizes (ZnO-1, 20 nm; ZnO-2, 90~200 nm; ZnO-3, $1\sim5\;{\mu}m$) tended to aggregate, particularly in the case of ZnO-1. When cytotoxicities of all three sizes of zinc oxide particles were measured at concentration ranges of $1\sim1000\;{\mu}g$/mL, significant decreases in cell viability were observed at concentrations of $50\;{\mu}g$/mL and higher. Among the three zinc oxides, ZnO-1 showed the lowest viability at $50\;{\mu}g$/mL in Caco-2 cells, followed by ZnO-2 and ZnO-3. The permeate concentration of ZnO-1 from the apical to the basolateral side in the Caco-2 model system after four hours was about three-fold higher than that of either ZnO-2 or ZnO-3. These results demonstrated that ZnO-1, with a 20 nm mean particle size, had poorer viability and better permeability in Caco-2 cells than ZnO-2 and ZnO-3.

In this study, Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor(AnMBR) treating food waste leachate was operated to investigate treatment efficiency of anaerobic process, operational parameters and production of biogas. AnMBR was operated under the condition of filtration type of inside-out mode. AnMBR was operated under the condition that range of permeate flux was from 15 to 20 LMH and range of transmembrane pressure was from 1 to $3 kgf/cm^2$. It was not good that AnMBR was performed under direct connection between anaerobic reactor and external UF module. so, this connection method changed to indirect connection using buffer tank was placed between anaerobic reactor and UF external module. TCOD and SCOD values were that influent were about 113 g/L, 62 g/L and effluent were 25 g/L, 12 g/L, respectively. also TCOD and SCOD removal efficiency were 77% and 81%, respectively. but after added UF process, COD and SCOD removal efficiency was increased to 93% and 86%, respectively.

The effects of e-beam irradiation on water-repellency and washing durability of water-repellent finished chemically-recycled PET(CR-PET) fabrics were investigated. As results, more doses of e-beam irradiation damaged the fabric surface more severely. It was thought because the high densed energy was formed, where the more e-beam was converged. The contact angle measurement showed that as the dose of e-beam irradiation increased, water wettability of the CR-PET fabric increased slightly. It was thought to be due that the surface etching by e-beam irradiation let water droplet permeate into the fabric surface better. The concentration of the water-repellent finishing agent was more important factor than curing temperature as finishing parameter. It was considered because the water-repellent finishing agent used in this study got to cure sufficiently at low temperature. Consequently, e-beam irradiation improved the washing durability of water-repellent finishing on the CR-PET fabrics.
A strain of Nuruk yeast No. IS (NY-15) which produced high activity of ${\beta}-galactosidase$ was isolated from Nuruk, and the crude enzyme was prepared by whey permeate culture of the microorganism. The crude enzyme was purified 40-fold with a 7.7% yield by acetone and ammonium sulfate fractionational precipitation, and chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and Agarose-PAPT. Purified ${\beta}-galactosidase$ from Nuruk yeast showed two types of subunit patterns; a slow moving band and a fast moving deeply stained band, both anode·migrating at pH 7.5. The molecular weight of the former was estimated to be about 130,000 and that of the latter was 96,000 by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The optimum pH of the enzyme activity was 7.5 and maximum activity appeared at $40^{\circ}C$.

In this study, the efficiency of M/F(micro filtration) system was investigated about the wastewater generated from the production process of ${\beta}-glucan$. M/F membrane used the pellicon 2 cassette filter module of millipore(USA) for the operation of M/F plant system. Flux was rised as operation pressure increased, and decreased with the operation time. As concentration ratio increased, the recovery of ${\beta}-glucan$, which was remaind in retentate was effective. As the fermentation solution of ${\beta}-glucan$ reused, the conversion ratio was 42.5%, and the status of fermentation was stable. Based on these results, we suggested that permeate was applicable as water reuse in cleaner production technology.
