영가 철로 구성된 Flow-Through Column내에서 미생물 처리에 이한 폭발성 물질의 제거 향상

  • Rusted iron could retain activity to redox-sensitive pollutants in batch reactor. Flow-through columns packed with permeable reactive iron filings (Fe$^{0}$ ) between soil and sand layers were used to evaluate the applicability of bio-enhanced iron barriers to treat explosives-contaminated groundwater. One column was bioaugmented with municipal anaerobic sludge to evaluate the enhancement of biodegradation. Military contaminants (RDX, HMX, TNT, 2,4DNT, 2,6DNT), which coexist in soils at military sites, were completely removed in the bioaugmented Fe$^{0}$ layer after 8 months of operation. Overall, this research suggests that Fe$^{0}$ barriers can effectively clean up groundwater contaminated with military explosives, and that treatment efficiency can be enhanced by bioaugmentation.

주물사가 포함된 투수반응벽체(PRB)를 이용한 아연으로 오염된 지하수 처리기법 연구 (Remediation of Groundwater Contaminated with Zinc Using Permeable Reactive Barriers Containing Foundry Sands)

  • 아연의 주물사에 대한 분배계수는 주물사에 포함된 TOC, 점토 함량, 총 철 함량 등에 따라 변하고 특히 용액 PH에 큰 영향을 받는 것을 관찰하였다. Batch 실험으로부터 얻어진 경험식으로부터분배계수와 제거상수를 예측할 수 있었다. Batch kinetic 실험과 batch sorption 실험으로부터 얻어진 분배계수는 용액 pH가 같을 시 거의 같은 값을 보이고 있다.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate reductive dechlorination of aromatic hydrocarbons using zero valent metals (ZVMs) and catalysts as reactive materials for permeable reactive barriers (PRBs). A group of small aromatic hydrocarbons such as monochlorophenols, phenol, benzene were readily reduced with palladium catalyst and zero valent iron. Poly-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were also tested with the catalysts and zero valent metal combinations. The aromatic rings were reduced and partly reduced PAHs were found as the daughter compounds. Current preliminary study implicate that ZVMs and modified catalysts can be successfully applied for PRBs which currently applicable for halogenated organic compounds and some inorganic contaminants including chromium(Ⅵ) and nitrate.

투수성반응벽체 적용을 위한 납석광물 기반 세라믹 반응매질의 특성평가 (The Characterization of Pyrophyllite Based Ceramic Reactive Media for Permeable Reactive Barriers)

  • 본 연구는 세라믹 압출법을 이용하여 납석기반 세라믹 반응매질을 제조하였다. 납석의 광물학적 특성은 XRD, XRF, DSC-TGA 및 제타전위분석을 실시하였으며, 납석기반의 세라믹 반응매질은 다양한 소성온도범위($500{\sim}1,300^{\circ}C$)에서 수행하였다. 소성온도가 증가할수록 반응매질의 강도는 증가하였으나, 비표면적은 감소된다. 온도변화에 따른 납석의 무게손실과 구조변화를 XRD, DSC-TGA 및 SEM 분석을 통해 확인하였으며, 엽납석은 소성온도 $1,000^{\circ}C$에서 pyrophyllite dehydroxylate로 전이되며, $1,300^{\circ}C$에서 뮬라이트와 크리스토발라이트로 상변화가 발생된다. 본 연구를 통해 납석은 투수성반응벽체 적용을 위한 반응매질로서 세라믹 지지체 역할을 수행할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

ZanF를 이용한 카드뮴(Cd)과 6가 크롬(Cr(VI))의 동시제거

  • Natural zeolites have exhibited high sorption capacity for inorganic cations including heavy metals and ammonium. Moreover, they were proven to be effective for environmental applications such as permeable barriers for controlling the spread of cation-contaminated groundwater. However zeolites have little or no affinity for anionic species like chromium, as they possess a net negative structural charge. To achieve the simultaneous sorption for anionic contaminants, surfactant-modified zeolite (SMZ) has been employed as the possible sorbents. Current study focuses on simultaneous removal of heavy metals having different ionic form in aqueous solution, cadmium (C $d^{2+}$) and chromium (Cr $O_{4}$$^{2-}$), using newly developed materials, ZanF. ZanF, a potential alternative to SMZ, was derived from zeolite modified by Fe(II) chloride followed by reduction with sodium borohydride. Batch experiments were performed to estimate the removal efficiency of ZanF at different conditions. Under different pH ranging from 2 to 6, removal efficiency was investigated. And C $d^{2+}$ removal efficiency was estimated by varying background concentration of Cr $O_{4}$$^{2-}$, and vice versa. With the test results, ZanF was expected to be a possible reactive materials alternative to SMZ in permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) for treating the contaminated groundwater with cationic and anionic heavy metals.als.

포화 지층내 영양염류 및 중금속의 제거를 위한 제올라이트의 적용인자 도출 (Development of Nutrients and Heavy Metals Removal Technology in Saturated Zone Using Zeolite)

  • Batch test and column test were performed to develop the design factors for permeable reactive barriers(PRBs) against ammonium and heavy metals, Clinoptilolite, a kind of natural zeolites having excellent cation exchange capacity(CEC), was choosen for the reacting materials through the ion-exchange mechanism. In the batch test, the reactivity of clinoptilolite for ammonium, lead, and copper was examined varying the initial concentration of contaminants(ammonium: 20, 40, 80 ppm, heavy metals: 10, 20, 40 ppm) and the particle size of clinoptilolites(0-0.15, 0.42-0.85, 1-1.25 mm). The reactivity is increasing as the initial concentration decrease and particle size decrease. In the column test, the permeability and the reactivity of the specimens were examined using flexible-wall permeameter. Specimens were made of clinoptilolite and Jumunjin-sand with 20 : 80 weight ratio varying particle size of clinoptilolite. The maximum permeability(1${\times}$10$\^$-4/-5${\times}$10$\^$-5/cm/s) was achieved in the specimen made of 0.42-0.85 mm clinoptilolite and sand.

카드뮴, 납, 구리에 대한 슬래그의 흡착특성평가 (Assessment of Sorption Behavior on Slag Against Heavy Metals)

  • 폐금속 광산 지역 등지에서 중금속으로 오염된 지하수의 정화 및 오염확산 방지를 위하여 투수성 반응벽체를 사용 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 슬래그가 투수성 반응벽체 충진물질로서 적당한지 평가하기 위하여 폐광산 지역에서 문제가 되고 있는 몇 가지 중금속(i.e., Pb, Cu, Cd)에 대한 슬래그의 반응성을 평가하였다. 폐광산 지역 지하수에는 중금속류들이 복합오염의 형태로 존재하며, 음이온 물질인 황산염, 탄산염 등도 공존한다. 중금속으로 오염된 현장의 조건을 고려하여, 1) 중금속 종류에 따른, 2) 초기 농도에 따른, 3) 음이온(황산염)의 존재에 따른 영향을 회분식 실험을 통하여 슬래그의 흡착능을 평가하였다. 슬래그의 흡착특성은 등온흡착평형(equilibrium sorption)과 동적인 흡착(kinetic sorption)인 경우 각 조건에 따른 영향을 확인하였다.

Design of Passive Treatment Systems for Mine Drainage Waters

  • Passive treatment systems are commonly used for remediation of mine drainage waters because they do not require continuous chemical inputs and operation. In this study, the selection and design criteria for such systems were evaluated, particularly the two most commonly used ones, i.e., permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) and vertical flow biological reactors (VFBRs). PRBs and VFBRs are operated on the same principles in terms of biochemical reaction mechanisms, whereas differences relate to configuration, engineering, and water management. In this study, each of these systems were described with respect to key design variables, such as metal removal mechanisms and removal rates, effectiveness and longevity, general design and construction, flow capacity, and cost. The information provided from this study could be used as a design guideline when a passive treatment option is considered for potential remediation of a mine site.
