Initial Rotor Polarity Detection of Single-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Based on Virtual dq-axis (단상 영구자석 동기 전동기의 가상 dq축 기반 초기 회전자 자극 검출)

  • This paper proposes an initial rotor magnetic pole detection method for single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors. The target motor cannot obtain position information based on the back emf in the low speed and stop state. Therefore, an open loop starting process is required, and in this process, initial rotor position information for low current and soft start is need. The proposed initial rotor magnetic pole detection algorithm considers the effect of asymmetric air- gap and magnetic flux. In addition, the high-frequency voltage signal injection and the offset voltage for accurate detection is used. As a result, the permanent magnet poles are is determined by acquiring the maximum value of the induced current using the virtual dq-axis.

  • Recently, super high-speed motor drives have been available due to the development of power electronics technology And they are used in various fields of industry because of their advantages. This paper describes the control algorithm for a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drive at the speed of 118,000r/min using DSP and IGBT inverter. Hall sensors are implemented to measure the rotor position and speed, and a speed observer is used to reduce the performance deterioration caused by the low resolution of hall sensors. To enhance the output power capacity in the high-speed operating region, a flux weakening controller which also can work as an anti-wind up controller is used. Computer simulations and experiments are peformed to validate the proposed method.

  • Reliability and safety of steer-by-wire concepts can be achieved by redundant designs. This paper discusses the design of a fault tolerant concept for a force feedback actuator with a standard three-phase PMSM. In contrast to usual drives, the phases of the machine are separated electrically. This design allows driving the machine with two instead of three phases in case of a fault. A superimposed torque controller adjusts the influence of fault currents and torque harmonics in two-phase operation and guarantees smooth torque at the steering wheel

  • To operate a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) at a maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation point, the exact values of machine parameters such as inductances and back-EMF constant, which are sensitive to motor phase currents and temperature respectively, should be blown. An adaptive estimation method for on-line estimation of the machine parameters is not suitable for practical applications since it has difficulties in estimating exact values and requires complex mathematical calculations. The purpose of this paper is to present a simple MTPA operation point tracking control strategy for vector controlled PMSM drives with slow dynamic loads. The proposed method searches MTPA operation points by modulating current phase angle and observing the variation in command power. The current angle modulation strategy is designed to sense the effect of load variations in the command power. Therefore, the proposed method can track the MTPA operation points of the PMSM regardless of load variations. Computer simulation and experimental study is also presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a model predictive torque control (MPTC) without the use of a weighting factor for surface mounted permanent-magnet synchronous machine (SPMSM) drive systems is presented. Firstly, the desired voltage vector is predicted in real time according to the principles of deadbeat torque and flux control. Then the sector of this desired voltage vector is determined. The complete enumeration for testing all of the feasible voltage vectors is avoided by testing only the candidate vectors contained in the sector. This means that only two voltage vectors in the sector need to be tested for selecting the optimal voltage vector in each control period. Thus, the calculation time can be reduced when compared with the conventional enumeration method. On the other hand, a novel cost function that only includes the dq-axis voltage errors between the desired voltage and candidate voltage is designed to eliminate the weighting factor used in the conventional MPTC. Thus, the control complexity caused by the tuning of the weighting factor is effectively decreased when compared with the conventional MPTC. Simulation and experimental investigation have been carried out to verify the proposed method.

In order to maximize the efficiency in such applications, this paper is proposed the optimal control method of the armature current. The controllable electrical loss which consists of the copper loss and the iron loss can be minimized by the optimal control of the armature current. The minimization of loss is possible to realize efficiency optimization control for the proposed IPMSM. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system, the operating characteristics controlled by efficiency optimization control are examined in detail by simulation.

  • Permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) is widely used in many applications such as an electric vehicle. compressor drives of air conditioner and machine tool spindle drives. PMSM drive system have become a popular choice in various application, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. This paper is proposed maximum torque control for field weakening operation of PMSM drive. At low speeds, the reluctance torque is used to maximize the output for a given current level. This is achieved maximum torque per ampere(MTPA) by selecting an optimal value of the direct stator current component. At high speeds, the system reaches a point at which the inverter will not be able to supply the desired voltage. In this case it is necessary to make use of an increased value the direct current component. The proposed control algorithm is applied to PMSM drive system, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by simulation.

  • The cold staring issue of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) is a chronic problem in the field of PMSM sensorless drives. A traditional starting method, called the I-F method, is widely adopted because of its simple structure. However, when using this method, the pre-defined magnitude and frequency of the starting current should be changed according to the condition of the load and machine inertia. In this paper, a smart and simple algorithm for the cold starting of PMSM is proposed. In the proposed method, an integrated control angle from the estimated electrical rotor speed is used for vector control such as the indirect vector control of the induction machine. Thus, very stable cold starting is performed regardless of the machine load condition or inertia changing.
