Fault Diagnosis Method of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Electrical Vehicle

  • The permanent magnet synchronous motor has high efficiency driving performance and high power density output characteristics compared with other motors. In addition, it has good regenerative operation characteristics during braking and deceleration driving condition. For this reason, permanent magnet synchronous motor is generally applied as a power train motor for electrical vehicle. In permanent magnet synchronous motor, the most probable causes of fault are demagnetization of rotor's permanent magnet and short of stator winding turn. Therefore, the demagnetization fault of permanent magnet and turn fault of stator winding should be detected quickly to reduce the risk of accident and to prevent the progress of breakdown of power train system. In this paper, the fault diagnosis method using high frequency low voltage injection was suggested to diagnose the demagnetization fault of rotor permanent magnet and the turn fault of stator winding. The proposed fault diagnosis method can be used to check the faults of permanent magnet synchronous motor during system check-up process at vehicle starting and idling stop mode. The feasibility and usefulness of the proposed method were verified by the finite element analysis.

  • This paper proposes speed control system using a Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) in order to realize the speed control of Permanent Magnet AC Motor with no sensor. FLC based MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) estimates the speed of Permanent Magnet AC Motor. Using the estimated speed, speed control is performed. The experiment is executed to verify the propriety and the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • 최근에는 회전자에 희토류 영구자석을 삽입하여 높은 효율과 출력밀도를 얻을 수 있는 매입형 영구자석 (IPM: Interior Permanent Magnet) 전동기 또는 표면부착형 영구자석 (SPM : Surface Permanent Magnet) 전동기처럼 영구자석이 사용된 전동기의 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 영구자석을 사용하기 때문에 릴럭턴스 전동기나 유도전동기와 비교해 효율이 높고 출력밀도가 높은 장점이 있으나 회전자에 영구자석을 삽입함으로써 고속운전 및 영구자석의 감자로 인한 신뢰성 감소, 희토류 금속의 원가 상승 등이 문제시되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 희토류 영구자석 전동기를 대체할 수 있는 미래기술 개발과, 희토류 저감형 전동기와 탈 희토류 전동기의 기술 선점을 요구하는 시대적 이슈(Issue)에 맞춰 영구자석이 필요 없는 스위치드 릴럭턴스 전동기 (Switched Reluvtance Motor, SRM)를 구동시키기 위한 구동 제어에 연구하고자 한다. PSIM 시뮬레이션 프로그램에서 제공하는 3상 SRM library를 이용하여 회전자 위치 정보 센서를 이용한 SRM의 구동 및 제어 시스템 모델링 (Modeling)을 연구하고자 한다.

  • Recently, permanent magnet synchronous motor are applied to various applications. Because of the importance of high reliable operation in these areas, many research related to the fault detection and diagnosis of inverter system are conducted. So, a faults model for an inverter-driven permanent magnet synchronous motor is studied by using the fault current of motor according to switch open, which can be effectively used for performance evaluation of the diagnostic algorithm. And fault of the permanent magnet synchronous motor inverter drive system is divided into four types. The feasibility of the proposed method are improved by simulation and experiment.

Field Circuit Coupling Optimization Design of the Main Electromagnetic Parameters of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

  • The electromagnetic parameters of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) such as the open load permanent magnet flux, d axis reactance $X_d$, and q axis reactance $X_q$, are most essential to the performance analysis and optimization design of the motor. Based on the numerical analysis of the 3D electromagnetic field, the three electromagnetic parameters of permanent magnet synchronous motors with U form interior rotor structures are calculated by FEA. The rules of the leakage coefficient and reactance parameters changing with the air gap length, permanent magnet magnetism length, and isolation magnetic bridge dimensions in the rotor are given. The calculated values agree well with the measured values. The FEA results are integrated with the self compiled electromagnetic design program to optimize the prototype motor. The tested performances of the prototype motor prove that the method is suitable for the optimization of motor structure.

Optimization of PI Controller Gain for Simplified Vector Control on PMSM Using Genetic Algorithm

  • This paper proposes the used of genetic algorithm for optimizing PI controller and describes the dynamic modeling simulation for the permanent magnet synchronous motor driven by simplified vector control with the aid of MATLAB-Simulink environment. Furthermore, three kinds of error criterion minimization, integral absolute error, integral square error, and integral time absolute error, are used as objective function in the genetic algorithm. The modeling procedures and simulation results are described and presented in this paper. Computer simulation results indicate that the genetic algorithm was able to optimize the PI controller and gives good control performance of the system. Moreover, simplified vector control on permanent magnet synchronous motor does not need to regulate the direct axis component current. This makes simplified vector control of the permanent magnet synchronous motor very useful for some special applications that need simple control structure and low cost performance.

  • This paper presents the sensorless drive method for mono inverter dual parallel (MIDP) surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drive system. MIDP motor drive system is a technique that can reduce the cost of the multi motor driving system. To maximize this merit of the MIDP motor drive system, the sensorless technique is essential to eliminate the position sensors. This paper adopts an appropriate sensorless method for MIDP SPMSM drive system, which uses the reduced order observer and phase locked loop (PLL) to reduce the calculation burden. The I-F control method is implemented for start-up and low speed operation. The validity and performance of the proposed algorithm are shown via experiments with 600-W SPMSMs.

  • There are two kinds of the synchronous motor, one is an induction type motor started without a driving system, the other is the one started with an external driving system. but, both are complicated. Nowadays, in order to devoid for the synchronous motor being complicated in design, line start permanent magnet(LSPM) motors are being developed. The LSPM motor is composed of the rotor that has interior permanent magnet and aluminum bar instead of general rotor. In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of the LSPM motor which has both characteristics of an induction motor and a synchronous motor, and we compared the the LSPM motor characteristics with the induction motor.

  • This paper deals with characteristic analysis of permanent magnet synchronous motor with full-ring magnet. The modeling of magnetic circuit is performed analytically. And then, analytical solution for open-circuit field distribution due to permanent magnet, back-EMF and torque are derived in terms of magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional polar coordinate system. The analytical results are validated extensively by finite element analyses. Finally, we performed experiments of permanent magnet synchronous motor with full-ring magnet.

  • Speed and torque controls of permanent magnet synchronous motors are usually attained by the application of position and speed sensors. However, speed and position sensors require the additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of a motor. Therefore, many studies have been peformed for the elimination of speed and position sensors. This paper investigates a novel speed sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed control strategy is based on the MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) using the state observer model with the current error feedback and the magnet flux model as two models for the back-emf estimation. The proposed algorithm is verified through the simulation and experiment.
