3D Finite Element Analysis of Skew and Overhang Effects of Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM의 Skew 와 Overhang 효과에 대한 3D 유한 요소 해석)

  • This paper deals with skew and overhang effects of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM). The detent force and thrust characteristics considering skew and overhang effects of permanent magnet are analyzed by 3D finite element method and the results are compared to experimental values. As skew and overhang are applied to permanent magnet, the thrust is almost the same value but the detent force is reduced remarkably. By harmonic analysis, the distortion ratio of thrust is remarkably reduced from 4.29[%] to 2.3[%]. and, the ripple ratio of thrust is decreased from 8.2[%] to 3.56[%] at the same time. But, the lateral force which operate as the perpendicular direction of skew direction is generated. The lateral force and normal force acts by braking force between mover and LM-guide.

  • In order to tune the speed controller in the linear servo applications an accurate information of a mover mass including a load mass is always required. This paper suggests the mass estimation method of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM) 4y using the parameter estimation method of Least-Squares algorithm. First, the deterministic autoregressive moving average(DARMA) model of the mechanical dynamic system is derived. Then the application of the Least-Squares algorithm shows that the mass can be accurately estimated both in the simulation results and in the experimental results.

  • 영구자석 선형 동기 전동기(Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor)는 회전 모터와 달리 사용 용도에 맞추어 설계할 필요가 있으며, 회전 모터와 다르게 고정자와 가동자의 길이가 유한장이기 때문에 회전 모터에 비하여 누설 자속이 크다. 따라서, 반송장치용 영구자석 선형 동기 전동기의 전원용량을 정확히 산출하기 위해서는 영구자석 선형 동기 전동기에서 발생하는 누설자속량을 산출할 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 영구자석 선형 동기 전동기의 전원용량의 산출법에 대하여 나타낸다.

Detent Force Analysis in Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor Considering Longitudinal End Effects

  • This paper presents a uniform analytical model by energy method and Fourier series expansion to analyze detent force in uneven magnetic field for permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM). The model reveals that detent force in long-primary type is mainly influenced by non-ideal distribution of permanent magnet magnetic motive force, while nounified air-gap permeance makes a great impact on detent force of short-primary type. Hence, magnetic field similarity of motor design techniques referring rotary counterpart are adopted. For long-primary type novel method of splitting edge magnets is proposed to reduce end effects force, and optimal widths of edge tooth in short-primary type also verify the effectiveness of magnetic field similarity. The experimental results validate finite element analysis results.

  • This paper deals with a polynomial thrust equation of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor that is considered by a skew and overhang effects of permanent magnet. The skew length, the overhang length, the width and height of permanent magnet, the teeth length and air-gap length which effect to the flux density of air-gap are selected as variables of the polynomial thrust equation. Polynomial thrust equation is elicited by the 6 parameters. The results are satisfied that the values by polynomial thrust equation are compared ones by using 3-dimensional finite element analysis and experiment.

  • Recently, more attention has been paid to the development of high-speed permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size, and low weight. In high-speed PM machines, core loss and windage loss form a larger proportion of the total losses than usual in conventional mid- or low speed machines. This article deals with the analysis on the core loss and windage loss in PM synchronous motor for high-speed application. Using the data information from a manufacturer and non-linear curve fitting, this paper investigates the magnetic behavior and its core losses in the stator core using the electrical steels. And, the windage loss is calculated according to the variation of the rotational speed, motor inner pressure and temperature.

  • The problem in improving the positioning precision of a Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) is the detent force caused by the interaction of the magnets with the teeth of stator. This paper presents 3-Dimensional Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method (3-D EMCN) for the analysis of PMLSM. 3-D EMCN is a numerical analysis method which supplements magnetic equivalent circuit by using numerical technique. We analyzed the fields and forces of PMLSM in case of skewed magnet and axially segmented magnet construction.

  • In this paper, the rotor losses in high-speed permanent synchronous motor (PMSM) considering the operating condition are discussed. In order to maintain the mechanical integrity of a high-speed permanent magnet machine rotor intended for high-speed operation, the rotor assembly is often retained within a stainless steel or Carbon-Fiber/Epoxy sleeve. The sleeve is exposed to fields produced by the stator from either the slotting or the mmf harmonics that are not synchronous with rotor losses. On the basis of analytical field analysis, the rotor losses are analyzed. In particular, the no-load, rated with air-cooled, and forced water cooled conditions are considered. The results are validated extensively by comparison with non-linear finite element method (FEM).

  • The stationary discontinuous armatures that are used in permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PM-LSMs) have been proposed as a driving source for transportation systems. However, the stationary discontinuous armature PM-LSM contains the outlet edges which always exist as a result of the discontinuous arrangement of the armature. For this reason, the outlet edge cogging force generated between the armature's core and the mover's permanent magnet. This paper contemplated the outlet cogging for ceaccording to 2-D numerical analysis by FEM. We installed the auxiliary pole for in order to minimize the outlet cogging force.

  • The direct thrust control of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor using digital signal processor (DSP) is presented. The motor self inductance, the initial flux linkage by the permanent magnet is calculated in advance by the finite element analysis. The equivalent circuit method and the digital signal processor are used for the simulation and experiment, respectively. The simulation and experimental results such as, thrust, current and speed responses to the commands are examined.
