매립지 함수율 모니터링을 위한 TDR 센서의 적용성 검토 - 수도권매립지 제2매립장을 중심으로 - (Applicability of TDR Sensor for Monitoring Moisture Content of Landfill - Focusing on the 2nd Landfill of SUDOKWON Landfill Site -)

  • This study evaluated a method for prompt and periodic monitoring of moisture content in the waste layer of a landfill using a Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) sensor, aimed at ensuring the stable operation of the bioreactor facility at the 2nd landfill of the SUDOKWON Landfill Site. It was found that the TDR sensor is sensitive to variables such as temperature changes and ion content in both the waste layer and leachate, indicating that a correction equation is necessary. A correction equation derived through regression analysis demonstrated a high correlation (correlation coefficient = 0.9647), and field verification experiments confirmed its reliability with an average deviation of only 1.5%. This verifies that the TDR sensor is effective for measuring and monitoring moisture content in landfills. It is also anticipated to be useful for various applications, including monitoring leachate levels, detecting leachate leakage, and assessing rainwater infiltration.

정상인과 수면장애 환자군 간의 주간졸림증 비교 및 임상적 의미 분석 (Comparison of Daytime Sleepiness between Normal Subjects and Patients with Sleep Disorders and Analysis of Its Clinical Implications)

  • 배 경 : 주간 졸림증은 흔한 증상으로서 수면 습관, 수면 박탈, 그리고 야간 작업 등과 관련된다. 또한 폐쇄성 수면무호흡증과 같은 수면장애의 중요 증상이다. 문헌 조사에 의하면 그간 국내에서 주간 졸림증에 대한 소수의 연구가 있었다. 그러나 다수의 정상대조군과 수면다원기록법을 사용해 확진된 수면장애 환자들 간에 주간 졸림증의 임상적인 특징을 비교한 체계적인 연구는 찾아볼 수 없었다. 본 연구에서는 야간 작업을 하지 않는 직장인, 만성적인 수면 박탈로 인해 주간 졸림증이 심할 것으로 추측되는 의과대학생, 그리고 수면다원기록법을 사용해 확진된 수면장애 환자를 대상으로 주관적인 주간 졸림증의 정도를 비교하였다. 그리고 수면장애 환자에서 주관적인 주간 졸림증과 수면다원검사 변인들 간의 연관성을 조사하였다. 방 법 : 야간 근무를 하지 않는 병원 직원 103명, 의과대학 3학년 학생 137명, 그리고 수면다원검사를 사용해 확진 된 수면장애 환자 518명을 대상으로 하였다. 수면장애에는 폐쇄성 수면무호흡증, 주기성 사지운동증, 불면증, 그리고 기면병을 포함하였다. 주관적인 졸림증의 정도를 한국어로 번안, 제작된 Epworth 졸림증 척도로 측정하여, 정상군과 졸림증군 그리고 수면장애 환자군 사이의 주관적인 졸림증 정도를 비교하였다. 그리고 각 수면 장애 환자군에서 수면 장애가 심한 정도를 반영하는 수면다원검사 변인과 주관적인 졸림증의 연관성을 분석하였다. 결 과 : 정상군, 수면장애 환자군, 의과대학생군 간에는 Epworth 졸림증 척도 점수의 유의한 차이가 있었다(F=68.190, df=5,752, p<0.001). 폐쇄성 수면무호흡증 환자군에서 주관적인 졸림증의 정도는 평균 혈중산소포화도(p=0.062), 호흡장애지수(p=0.807)와 유의한 상관관계가 없었다. 주기성 사지운동증 환자군에서 주기성 사지운동 지수와 졸림증과는 유의한 상관관계가 없었다(p=0.761). 기면병 환자군에서 입면잠복시간 반복검사(MSLT)에서 측정한 평균 입면잠복시간과 졸림증은 유의한 상관관계가 없었다(p=0.055). 결 론 : 주관적인 졸림증의 정도는 정상군, 수면장애 환자군, 그리고 의과대학생군 간에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 그러나 각 수면장애 환자군 내에서 주관적인 졸림증의 정도는 수면장애의 심한 정도를 반영하는 객관적인 수면다원검사 변인과는 상관관계가 없었다. 주관적인 졸림증의 평가가 임상적으로 중요하나 수면다원기록법과 같은 객관적인 평가방법을 대체할 수는 없다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Comparative assessment of surface and ground water quality using geoinformatics

  • Water quality demonstrates physical, chemical and biological characteristics of water. The quality of surface and groundwater is currently an important concern with population growth and industrialization. Over exploitation of water resources due to demand is causing the deterioration of surface water and ground water. Periodic water quality testing must be carried out to protect our water resources. The present research analyses the spatial variation of surface water and groundwater in and around the lakes of Hyderabad. Twenty-Seven lakes and their neighboring bore water samples are obtained for water quality monitoring. Samples are evaluated for specific physico-chemical parameters such as pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Cl, SO4, Na, K, Ca, Mg, and Total Hardness (TH). The spatial variation of water quality parameters for the 27 lakes and groundwater were analysed. Correlation and multiple regression analysis were carried out to determine comparative study of lake and ground water. The study found that most of the lakes were polluted and this had an impact on surrounding ground water.

Image Processing-based Validation of Unrecognizable Numbers in Severely Distorted License Plate Images

  • This paper presents an image processing-based validation method for unrecognizable numbers in severely distorted license plate images which have been degraded by various factors including low-resolution, low light-level, geometric distortion, and periodic noise. Existing vehicle license plate recognition (LPR) methods assume that most of the image degradation factors have been removed before performing the recognition of printed numbers and letters. If this is not the case, conventional LPR becomes impossible. The proposed method adopts a novel approach where a set of reference number images are intentionally degraded using the same factors estimated from the input image. After a series of image processing steps, including geometric transformation, super-resolution, and filtering, a comparison using cross-correlation between the intentionally degraded reference and the input images can provide a successful identification of the visually unrecognizable numbers. The proposed method makes it possible to validate numbers in a license plate image taken under low light-level conditions. In the experiment, using an extended set of test images that are unrecognizable to human vision, the proposed method provides a successful recognition rate of over 95%, whereas most existing LPR methods fail due to the severe distortion.

미세유로를 갖는 납작관의 열·유동 해석 (Thermal and Flow Analysis of the Flat Tube with Micro-Channels)

  • In this study, the general thermal and flow characteristics of flat tube with micro-channels has been studied and the correlation of Nusselt number and friction factor is proposed. The optimal flat tube geometry is determined by optimal design process. It is assumed to be a three dimensional laminar flow in the analysis of thermal and flow characteristics. The periodic boundary condition is applied since the geometry of flat tube with micro-channels shows uniform cross-section in primary flow direction. Local Nusselt number is examined for thermal characteristics of each membrane, and module average Nusselt number and friction factor are calculated to determine the characteristics of the heat transfer and pressure drop in overall flat tube with microchannels. The correlations between Nusselt number and friction factor are given by Reynolds number, aspect ratio of membranes, and the width of flat tube. ALM (Augmented Lagrangian Multiplier) method is applied to the correlations to determine an optimal shape of flat tube. It is shown that the optimal aspect ratio of flat tube is approximately 1.0, irrespective of the width of flat tube and Reynolds number.

  • A newly developed cellular metal based on kagome lattice is an ideal candidate for multifunctional materials achieving various optimal properties. Intensive efforts have been devoted to develop efficient techniques for mass production due to its wide potential applications. Since a variety of imperfections would be inevitably included in the realistic fabrication processes, it is highly important to examine the correlation between the imperfections and material strengths. Previous performance tests were mostly done by numerical simulations such as finite element method (FEM), but only for perfect structures without any imperfection. In this paper, we developed an efficient numerical framework using nonlinear random network analysis (RNA) to verify how the statistical imperfections (geometrical and material property) contribute to the performance of general truss structures. The numerical results for kagome truss structures are compared with experimental measurements on 3-layerd WBK (wire-woven bulk kagome). The mechanical strength of the kagome structures is shown relatively stable with the Gaussian types of imperfections.

  • Effects of the subgrid length-scale in the Delayed-Detached Eddy Simulation(DDES) are investigated based on the Spalart-Allmaras(S-A) and the k-$\omega$ Shear Stress Transport(SST) turbulence models. Driver & Seegmiller's experimental results are used to validate numerical results. Grid convergence with grid resolution and subgrid length-scale is investigated. The simulation results show that the volume method for the subgrid length-scale is more resistant to unfavorable effects of the grid size in the periodic direction than the maximum method. Using a sufficient grid resolution and an appropriate subgrid length-scale, both S-A based DDES and SST based DDES methods can provide a good correlation with the experimental data.

  • 최근 구조물의 붕괴사고가 빈번히 발생하고 있어 이에 대한 안전대책 마련이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 C.R.P(Close-Range Photogrammetry)를 이용하여 구조물 전면에 대한 변형측량을 주기적으로 실시하고 측지학적 network과 연결하여 절대변위량 도출을 꾀하였다. 또한 동시에 inclinometer 계측도 실시하여 이와의 상관관계도 아울러 분석하였다. 연구 결과 구조물의 시통 가능한 일부분에 기준점을 배치하여 기준점측량의 난제를 해결할 수 있었다. 또한 reference network과 control network을 연결하여 절대변형량 해석을 위한 좌표전환 parameter를 도출하므로써 지반 거동해석의 가능성을 제시할 수 있고 종래의 국부적인 계측으로 인한 비효율성을 보완할 수 있었다.

  • A method of synthetic time series generation was developed and applied to the simulation of homogeneous turbulence in a periodic 3 - D box and the hourly wind data simulation. The method can simulate almost exact sample auto and cross correlations of multiple time series and control non-Gaussian distribution. Using the turbulence simulation, influence of correlations, non-Gaussian distribution, and one-direction anisotropy on homogeneous structure were studied by investigating the spatial distribution of turbulence kinetic energy and enstrophy. An hourly wind data of Typhoon Robin was used to illustrate a capability of the method to simulate sample cross correlations of multiple time series. The simulated typhoon data shows a similar shape of fluctuations and almost exactly the same sample auto and cross correlations of the Robin.
