The construction industry is demanding, dynamic, and complex making it difficult for workers to recognize hazards. The nature of construction tasks exposes workers to several critical risk factors, such as a high rate of exertion and fatigue. Recent studies suggest that fatigue may impact hazard recognition in the construction industry. However, most studies rely on subjective measures when assessing the relationship between physical fatigue and hazard recognition, limiting such studies' efficacy. Thus, this study examined the relationship between physical fatigue and hazard recognition using a controlled experiment. Worker fatigue levels were captured using physiological data and a subjective exertion scale. The findings confirmed that physical exertion plays a significant role in hazard recognition skills (p < 0.05). This research contributes to theory and practice by providing a process for objectively assessing the influence of physical fatigue on worker safety and providing construction professionals with some critical insight needed to improve workplace safety.

Reliability-based structural optimization usually requires designers or engineers model different designs manually, which is considered very time consuming and all possibilities cannot be fully explored. Otherwise, a lot of time are needed for designers or engineers to learn mathematical modeling and programming skills. Therefore, a framework that integrates generative design, structural simulation and reliability theory is proposed. With the proposed framework, various designs are generated based on a set of rules and parameters defined based on visual programming, and their structural performance are simulated by OpenSees. Then, reliability of each design is evaluated based on the simulation results, and an optimal design can be found. The proposed framework and prototype are tested in the optimization of a steel frame structure, and results illustrate that generative design based on visual programming is user friendly and different design possibilities can be explored in an efficient way. It is also reported that structural reliability can be assessed in an automatic way by integrating Dynamo and OpenSees. This research contributes to the body of knowledge by providing a novel framework for automatic reliability evaluation and structural optimization.

Large language models seem promising for handling reasoning problems, but their underlying solving mechanisms remain unclear. Large language models will establish a new paradigm in artificial intelligence and the society as a whole. However, a major challenge of large language models is the massive resources required for training and operation. To address this issue, researchers are actively exploring compact large language models that retain the capabilities of large language models while notably reducing the model size. These research efforts are mainly focused on improving pretraining, instruction tuning, and alignment. On the other hand, chain-of-thought prompting is a technique aimed at enhancing the reasoning ability of large language models. It provides an answer through a series of intermediate reasoning steps when given a problem. By guiding the model through a multistep problem-solving process, chain-of-thought prompting may improve the model reasoning skills. Mathematical reasoning, which is a fundamental aspect of human intelligence, has played a crucial role in advancing large language models toward human-level performance. As a result, mathematical reasoning is being widely explored in the context of large language models. This type of research extends to various domains such as geometry problem solving, tabular mathematical reasoning, visual question answering, and other areas.
For the past few years, the Korean government has been consistently expanding its national research & development budget to accelerate economic growth through technology innovation and the enhancement of international competitiveness in global markets. The objective of this paper is to define the concept and analyze the current status of national R&D programs by measuring R&D efficiencies. We determine R&D efficiency by reflecting inputs and outcomes of the five main agricultural R&D programs between 2010 to 2015, and by categorizing and regrouping figures that may affect R&D performance. Among 1,128 targeted projects, 832 projects with patents and thesis were selected for analysis in terms of measuring technology efficiency, pure technology efficiency, and efficiency of scale. Also, the Kruskal-Wallis test was also utilized as well. As a result of empirical analysis, figures that affected the efficiency level of national R&D programs included differences in research resources, research management levels and skills, and research field. This study can be utilized as a reference for re-establishing national agricultural R&D policies, such as enhancement of national technology competitiveness in the global market environment, improving and adapting to new agricultural conditions, market expansion, national agricultural R&D efficiency, aging rural population, agricultural management cost increase, and climate change mitigation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to design a x-ray screening rating system to improve X-ray screening ability, which is a core job competency of security screener at Incheon International Airport, and to verify its effectiveness through empirical analysis to suggest ways to improve the level management system. Methods: In this study, the effectiveness of the research model was analyzed using T-test tests for effect analysis based on the empirical analysis results derived through the competency evaluation model, the screening rating system. Results: The results of this study are as follows. The average score for regular education before the implementation of the x-ray screening rating system was 94.1 points, but after the implementation of the x-ray screening rating system, the average score for regular education was 95.5 points, an average of 1.4 points increased. In addition, the proportion of those with 95 or more points classified as high scorers also increased significantly from 51.1% to 69.3%. Conclusion: The X-ray screening rating system of security inspectors will systematically manage the level of screening ability, which is a key job competency, and play a strong role in improving competency, while preventing security accidents through early identification and intensive training of level-lowers.
Objectives: The new educational system emphasizes acquisition of clinical competency by the time of graduation from Korean medicine colleges that allow Korean medicine doctors to immediately perform clinical tasks. This study investigated awareness of competency-based education in Korean medicine hospital residents who must simultaneously undergo training and assist medical students in clinical practice. Methods: This was a qualitative research that was conducted using focus group interviews (FGIs) to investigate the awareness of demands for improvement in competency-based Korean medicine education in Korean medicine hospital. To apply the principles and procedures of FGIs, a semi-structured questionnaire was developed. Data analysis was conducted using the five steps of framework analysis. Results: According to contents analysis, first competency-based education that reflects actual clinical practice tasks is needed. Second, sufficient basic skill mastery education must be reinforced. Third, an intermediate curriculum that mediates clinical practice and basic education is needed. Fourth, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination and Clinical Performance Examination must be expanded to prepare for the Korean medicine doctor practical test. Conclusions: Korean medicine residents reported the gap between clinical practice and use of knowledge and skills acquired in the curriculum while acting as direct observers and educations of clinical clerkship in hospitals. Based on this exploratory study it is necessary to conduct research on the educational competency of Korean medicine residents who play an important role as educational leaders in Korean medicine clinical practice training.
Purpose : This study sought to investigate novice nurses' communication education needs in the intensive care unit (ICU) using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) and Borich's need assessment model. This study identified communication challenges in clinical settings to develop a simulation program that enhances communication competencies based on educational requirements. Methods : A descriptive research design and a self-report questionnaire were used. The latter was developed and administered to 121 novice nurses with less than one year of experience in the ICU at various university hospitals in Korea. Data were collected via the online open chatroom from June 24th to July 28th, 2023. The communication education needs were identified using descriptive statistics, t-tests, IPA, and Borich's needs assessment model. Text analysis was used to categorize the participants' communication experience. Results : The results revealed that "communication with physicians," "communication with patients," and "communication with nurse on another shift" domains contained the most substantial educational needs for novice nurses working in the intensive care units. Conclusion : The results provide fundamental data for developing and enhancing customized communication education programs for novice ICU nurses. This valuable information could help ICU nurses and educators improve new nurses' communication skills, which would ultimately contribute to the advancement of nursing education and clinical practice.

When a competent employee leaves an organization, the technical skills and know-how possessed by that employee also disappear, which may lead to various problems, such as a decrease in organizational morale and technology leakage. To address such problems, it is important to increase employees' job satisfaction. Due to the advancement of both information and communication technology and social media, many former and current employees share information regarding companies in which they have worked or for which they currently work via job portal websites. In this study, a web crawl was used to collect reviews and job satisfaction ratings written by all and incumbent employees working in nine industries from Job Planet, a Korean job portal site. According to this analysis, regardless of the industry in question, organizational culture, welfare support, work system, growth capability and relationships had significant positive effects on job satisfaction, while time and attendance management, performance management, and organizational flexibility had significant negative effects on job satisfaction. With respect to the path difference between former and current employees, time and attendance management and organizational flexibility have greater negative effects on job satisfaction for current employees than for former employees. On the other hand, organizational culture, work system, and relationships had greater positive effects for current employees than for former employees.
Purpose: This study seeks to address the following research questions: (1) What are the fundamental principles of sports psychology that can be applied to business leadership? (2) How can these principles enhance business leadership effectiveness? As a result, the study may evaluate the necessity and benefits of incorporating sports psychology principles into business leadership practices. Research design, data and methodology: The data collection process in this study involved a systematic Literature review approach, following the prior literature analysis guidelines by numerous past studies. This methodical approach to selecting articles can be useful in synthesizing existing literature and can be referred to as Literature review and selection. Results: The literature analysis has indicated that there is much support for assumptions underpinning business leadership modules, which can be enhanced by applying sports psychology. This topic discusses the traits of self-positivity and mental toughness, goal perspective and interpersonal relationships within a team, and visualization in a sporting organization that can be implemented in business management to support organizational performance. Conclusions: All in all, it can be concluded that organizations must consider adopting Sports Psychology principles into their Leadership Development Programs. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a standardized patients managed instruction program for a fundamentals of nursing. The standardized patients managed instruction was evaluated by using a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group posttest design with two separate classes of sophomore students attending fundamentals of nursing classes at one baccaleureate nursing school in Korea. Control group was taught by traditional lecture/model instruction and experimental group was taught by standardized patient managed instruction. Data were collected from December, 1999 to July, 2000 using checklist developed by researcher on following areas; clinical nursing performance, communication skills, and learning motivation. There were 36 students in the experimental group and 40 students in the control group. Data analysis was done using SPSS WINDOW. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. Clinical nursing performances were evaluated by change position, back care and hot bag apply. The total score was statistically significant higher in the experimental group than the control group(t=3.325, p=.000). Thus hypothesis 1 was supported. 2. Communication skill was evaluated by professional attitude and ability to explain to patients. There was a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group (t=4.232, p=.000). Thus hypothesis 2 was supported. 3. Learning motivation was evaluated by self-reported questionnaires. There was statistically a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group(t=3.024, p=.004). Thus hypothesis 3 was supported. In conclusion, this study suggests that standardized patients managed instruction is an effective learning method to nursing students. By utilizing a standardized patient managed instruction, learning can proceed in a more relaxed environment and reduce the risks to patients because student inexperience are avoided. It is recommended to develop more standardized patients cases for wider areas of nursing educational and evaluate the program with more students using logitudinal method.
