Performance Improvement of ISDN AO/DI System with Buffering Scheme (ISDN AO/DI 시스템에서 버퍼링 기능 구현으로 인한 성능 향상)

  • ISDN AO/DI provides efficient communication. It dynamically allocates channels for bandwidth, which is key component for packet data communication. In this paper, we analyze performance improvement of ISDN AO/DI system with buffering scheme and compare with AO/DI system without buffering scheme. From the simulation of AO/DI with buffering scheme, we see that the required bandwidth is less than of the AO/DI system without buffering scheme.

Effects of FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System Characteristics on Business Performance: Mediating Effects of Organizational Capabilities (FSSC 22000 식품안전 경영시스템 특성이 기업 경영성과에 미치는 영향: 조직역량의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the impact of FSSC 22000 food safety management system characteristics on the business performance of food-related companies and to verify the mediating effect of organizational capabilities in the relationship between them. Methods: To achieve this, a survey was conducted among employees of food companies in Seoul and the metropolitan area that have implemented the FSSC 22000 food safety management system, and the following main results were derived. Results: First, the FSSC food safety management system factors, such as measurement/analysis and improve- ment, documentation, management responsibility, and service and product realization, were found to have a significant positive (+) impact on organizational capabilities. The relative impact was in the order of measurement/analysis and improvement, documentation, management responsibility, and service and product realization. Second, organizational capabilities were found to have a significant positive (+) impact on business performance. Third, the FSSC food safety management system factors, such as measurement/analysis and improvement, management responsibility, resource management, and documentation, were found to have a significant positive (+) impact on business performance. The relative impact was in the order of measure- ment/analysis and improvement, management responsibility, resource management, and documentation. Fourth, the factors of management responsibility, resource management, measurement/analysis and improvement, and documentation, excluding resource management factors, were found to have a positive impact on business performance through the mediation of organizational capabilities. Conclusion: The results of this study may provide important implications for the implementation and efficient operation and management of the FSSC 22000 food safety management system in enhancing the business performance of food-related companies.

Study of Compressor-Performance Improvement in Automotive Air-Conditioning System (자동차용 에어컨 압축기의 성능 향상에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to realize compressor-performance improvements in the fuel economy of an automotive air-conditioning system. We conduct cooling performance tests in a compressor calorimeter test stand. To improve the cooling performance, we investigate the increase in the suction flow rate and the decrease in the discharge dead volume. Based on the results of the test, we found that the cooling capacity and the coefficient of performance (COP) of the compressors were improved as follows. The cooling performance improved greater at high speeds than low speeds in the case of an increase in the suction flow rate increase, and it improved more at low speeds than at high speed when there was a decrease in the discharge dead volume. When both of the above factors were included, we observed that the improvement effects were generally balanced for both high- and low-speed modes, and there was a significant improvement in the discharge temperature. The improvement was found to be about 3.2% at low speed, 8.3% at high speed during in cooling performance improvement, about 5.8% at low speed and about 6.2% at high speed in COP improvement, and there was a decrease of about $3^{\circ}C$ at low speed and a $5^{\circ}C$ decrease at high speed in discharge temperature.

  • This study reconstructed the military logistics improvement project currently being implemented by ROK military as a defense logistics strategy. In addition the factors affecting the performance of the defense logistics strategy are analyzed using PLS. The significance of this study is as follows. First, the defense logistics improvement project was structured as a defense logistics strategy according to function. Second, PLS is used for performance factor analysis. Most of the existing defense researches utilized the ML structural equation. However, this study used the PLS structural equation in view of the fact that each detail project is the formation of defense logistics strategy. Third, we identified projects that have a substantial impact on defense logistics performance and those that do not. We found that inventory, process, and information strategy influenced logistics performance among defense logistics strategies. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the facility/equipment strategy had no significant effect on defense logistics performance.

Machine-Learning Based on Relevance Feedback: A Powerful Engine to Enhance the Performance of SDI System (기계학습 기반 피드백 과정을 통한 SDI 시스템의 성능향상에 관한 연구)

  • As the Internet facilitates the rapid increase of information availability, the study on SDI service that provides users with relevant document in a timely manner has been developed. However, the practical use of this service has been low. This thesis aims at analyzing the reasons for this and developing relevance feedback based SDI system to improve the performance of the existing SDI system. Experimental systems that are developed for this study are SDI system based on users' minimum intervention feedback, SDI system based on perfect automation feedback, and SDI system based on users' maximum intervention feedback. The fourth system that utilizes the traditional SDI system is also studied to evaluate the level of performance improvement of the newly developed three types of SDI system. As a result of this study, SDI system based on users' maximum intervention feedback showed greatest performance improvement. The next performance improvement happened in order of SDI system based on perfect automation feedback, SDI system based on users' minimum intervention feedback, and the traditional SDI system. Feedback based systems showed greater performance improvement as they went through more feedback processes.

Factors associated with the Degree of Quality Improvement Performance (질 향상 활동성과에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study was conducted to assess factors associated with the degree of performance of qualify improvement(QI) activities. A mailed questionnaire survey was conducted between September 15 and October 30, 2000, with the staffs being charge of QI at each of the hospitals with 400 beds or greater. Of the 108 hospitals eligible for inclusion in our study, 79 participated, yielding a response rate of 73.1%. After excluding 12 hospitals that did not perform any QI activities, 117 responses from 67 hospitals were used for the analysis. Using the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria(MBNQAC), perceived performance of QI was measured in terms of the improvement of the quality of clinical practice, clinical supporting department, administrative procedure of receiving care, customer satisfaction, efficiency and standardization of work process. Factors evaluated for the association were the extent of QI implementation, compliance to 5 QI principles, participation of hospital CEOs, budget allocation, history of QI, and bed size. Path analysis was performed to assess the relationship between QI performance and these factors. Major findings of this study are as follows. Hospitals showing higher degree of QI implementation (path coefficient=0.5967, p<0.001)) and better compliance with the basic principes of QI(0.5736, p<0.05) tended to achieve better performance. Path analysis results showed that interest and participation of hospital CEOs(0.1954, p<0.05) and compliance with the basic principes of QI(0.4028, p<0.0001) indirectly affected the outcomes of QI by influencing the intermediate variable of the level of QI implementation. This study results suggest that having employees have a good orientation of the basic concept and principes of QI through relevant training be the most important requirement to achieve better outcomes from QI activities. In addition, to educate leaders of hospitals the need of active implementation of QI is important to encourage their participation and draw strong support for QI programs.

Modification and Installation Design of Airframe Structures for Performance Improved Aircraft (성능개량 항공기의 기체구조물 개조 및 장착설계)

  • This paper addresses the installation and modification design of airframe structures for new and modified equipment installations that are essential for aircraft performance improvement. Typical performance improvement equipment mounted on the exterior of the aircraft include antenna, radar, electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR), and self-protection system equipment, which require structural reinforcement, modification, and mounting design of the green aircraft for operation. In the interior of the aircraft, console and rack structures are modified or added according to user operation requirements. In addition, this is accompanied by the installation design of equipment to be replaced and added for performance improvement, and the according modification of environmental control system components for internal cooling. The engineering process and cases in which airworthiness was verified through the detailed design of airframe structures with structural integrity, operability, and maintainability of performance-improved aircraft are presented.

A Selective Compression Strategy for Performance Improvement of Database Compression (데이터베이스 압축 성능 향상을 위한 선택적 압축 전략)

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) significantly increases the amount of data. Database compression is important for big data because it can reduce costs for storage systems and save I/O bandwidth. However, it could show low performance for write-intensive workloads such as OLTP due to the updates of compressed pages. In this paper, we present practical guidelines for the performance improvement of database compression. Especially, we propose the SELECTIVE strategy, which compresses only tables whose space savings are close to the expected space savings calculated by the compressed page size. Experimental results using the TPC-C benchmark and MySQL show that the strategy can achieve 1.1 times better performance than the uncompressed counterpart with 17.3% space savings.

  • A rotor overlap technique was adapted to improve the performance of a axial turbine. The technique secured sufficient flow passage by additional height at the rotor tip and hub. especially in a supersonic turbine, the technique reduced the chance of chocking in the rotor passage, and made to be satisfied the design pressure ratio. However, the technique also made additional losses, like a pumping loss, expansion loss, etc. Therefore, a optimization technique was appled to maximize the improvement of the turbine performance. An approximate optimization method was used for the investigation to secure the computational efficiency. The design variables was shape factors of a rotor overlap. Results indicated that a significant improvement in turbine performance can be achieved through the optimization of the rotor overlap.
