  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for developing a social policy program and group counseling program that will help matriarchs adapt successfully by investigating the level of depression and perceived health status in them. The data was collected from the period February to July, 2000 which included 155 matriarchs who registered at the 'YWCA', 'Working Women Center' located in Busan. The matriarche's depression was measured through a questionnaire composed of 13 selected items which correspond to depression of SCL-90-R scale and the tool for perceived health status measured by Ware(1976) translated by Yoo Ji Soo, Kim Jo Ja and Park Ji Won (1985). The data was then analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and pearson correlation coefficient. The result of which are, as follow: 1. The mean score of depression was 30.8 (SD=${\pm}5.1$) from a range of 13 to 52, and perceived health states was 28.3 (SD=${\pm}4.4$) from a range of 11 to 44. 2.83.3% of the matriarchs have experienced mild depression and above and 3.9% of them experienced high level of depression. 9.0% of the matriarchs perceived their health status low and 78.6% of them have percieved their health status moderately. 3. There was a significant difference statistically in the degree of depression according to the religion(t=2.852, p=.005) and income(t=4.25, p=.000). 4.There was also a negative correlation between depression and perceived health status (r=-.499, p=.000) In conclusion, the majority of matriarchs have experienced depression and perceived their health status below moderately, and there was a significant correlation between depression and preceived health status. Considering these facts therefore, We recommend that this data be used in developing nursing intervention program and in understanding matriarchs. Finally, it is suggested that the nursing assistance for matriarchs should not be limited only to physical support but also psychological and systematic support as well.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors influencing the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of older adult women with sarcopenia. Methods: The study was secondary data analysis using data from the 2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The final sample consisted of 142 women aged 60 years and older with sarcopenia and were selected from 8,110 women. The participants was analyzed using complex descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and regression. Results: In terms of HRQoL, three general characteristics were found to be influential, with an explanatory power of 56.0%: difficulty climbing stairs, difficulty working, and perceived health status. Having no or mild difficulty when climbing stairs (B=.20, p=.001; B=.21, p<.001) and no or mild difficulty when working (B=.25, p=. 002; B=.208, p=.013) had a significant effect on HRQoL compared to severe difficulty. Having good or ordinary perceived health status had a significant effect on the HRQoL (B=.11, p<.001; B=.09, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on study findings that the HRQoL of older adult women with sarcopenia were influenced by difficulty climbing stairs and working, as well as good perceived health status, healthcare providers should assist elderly women to maintain physical activities in their daily lives.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the influence of health status and types of health management on depression in middle-aged women. Methods: A convenience sample of 188 participants was recruited from health centers in S city. Using a structured questionnaire, data was collected and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and linear regression using SPSS/WIN 23 program. Results: Results of the regression analysis showed that perceived current health status (${\beta}=-0.55$, p<.001), no caregiver (${\beta}=0.47$, p<.001), chronic diseases lasting more than three months (${\beta}=0.36$, p<.001), perceived health status compared to peer group (${\beta}=0.32$, p<.001), walking for health (${\beta}=-0.20$, p=.002), caregiver except family (${\beta}=0.18$, p=.001), and gastrointestinal disease (${\beta}=0.10$, p=.022) influenced depression in middle-aged women. Overall, approximately 69.7% of total variance explained this model (adjusted $R^2=0.678$, F=57.21, p<.001). Conclusion: This study suggests that it is more important to understand the level of perceived health status in middle-aged women. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop programs that include various health management methods and strengthen the health care with the help of families and neighbors in order to manage depression in middle-aged women.

  • Purpose: This study was to evaluate a virtual class, 'lifelong health care for women', for female university students. Method: The research design was one group pre-post design. A pretest and posttest were conducted to measure CMI, perceived health status, health promoting lifestyle, and knowledge related to women's health. The subjects of this study were 74 female students in 3 universities, and they were provided with the virtual class by K university consortium for 16 weeks. Data was analyzed by descriptive and paired t-test. Results: There were statistically significant differences in CMI (t=3.367, p=.001), perceived health status (t=-2.788, p=.007), and knowledge related to women's health (t=-10,432, p=.000) between the pretest and posttest. However, there was not a statistically significant difference in a health promoting lifestyle (t=-1.431, p=.157) between the pretest and posttest. Conclusion: These results suggest that a virtual class on lifelong health care for women is aneffective method in decreasing health problems, and improving perceived health status and knowledge related to women's health by female university students.

The subjects of this study were 240 women(40 to 60 years old) The sample data were collected using a purposive sampling method, and collected from August 23 to September 6, 1999. The instruments for his study were a health promoting lifestyle scale, a health locus of control scale, a self-esteem scale and a perceived health status questionnaire. Frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression technique with SPSS program were used to analyze the data. The results of the study were as follows ; 1) The average score of performance in the health-promoting lifestyle variables was 166.40. The variable with the highest degree of performance was the sanitary environment , whereas the one with the lowest degree was the professional health maintenance. 2) Performance in the health-promoting lifestyle was positively related to self-esteem, internal health locus of control and negatively related to accidental health locus of control and perceived health status. 3) A significant difference between educational level and health-promoting lifestyle were found. 4) Self-esteem and perceived health status explained 21.0% of the variance for the total health promoting lifestyle. The results of this study show that self-esteem, perceived health status predicted the health promoting lifestyle of the climacteric women. Therefore, health promoting programs that increase self-esteem and perceived health status should be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle of the climacteric women, especially those who have a low level of education.
