  • Purpose: This study examines the motivations that prompt customers to use commercial sharing services (CSSs), and the relationship between anti-consumption and the perceived utility of CSSs in the fashion-sharing business. This study tries to understand how the two types of anti-consumption can differentially affect consumers' perceived utility to use CSSs. In particular, as the types of CSS have diversified and many consumers have used them, it can be expected that the influence of anti-consumption on the perceived utility of CSSs can change, depending on the field where the CSS is applied. Research design, data and methodology: The structural equation modeling (SEM) with the SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 18.0 programs was used. Results: This study found that (i) two types of anti-consumption (voluntary and selective) differentially affect the perceived utilities to use CSSs; (ii) the two types of anti-consumption differentially affect the perceived utility to use CSSs depending on the level of the brand. Conclusions: In order to promote the spread of consumers' use in the sharing economy, it will be possible to identify what important utility is and make a meaningful contribution to the establishment of future marketing strategies.

  • This research investigates the effect of brand-self identification on brand attachment and brand commitment focusing on luxury brand. Another purpose of this study is to examine how the relationships among brand identification, brand attachment and brand committment are moderated by consumers' regulatory focus. Structural Equation Modeling using 214 questionnaires was conducted to test hypothesized model. The results reveal that perceived luxury brand personality including excitement, competence, and sophistication influences brand-self identification positively, which in turn has a signifiant positive effect on the brand attachment. It is also found that consumers' emotional attachment to luxury brands has a positive influence on the luxury brand commitment while the effect of the brand-self identification on the brand commitment is not signifiant. This finding strongly supports that brand attachment and brand commitment are distinct construct, which confirms the results of the previous studies. In addition, the results show that consumers-luxury brands relationships are moderated by consumers' regulatory focus. This finding explains that prevention-focused individuals who have interdependent self-view respond to the loss caused by relationship break more sensitively compared to the promotion-focused consumers. Finally, based on the findings of this study, theoretical contribution and managerial implications are discussed.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effects of perceived risk and brand attitude on licensing brands comparing with non-licensed brands(virtual brand). Data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire in quasi-experimental design setting. I designed the experimental setting that there were two virtual companies to sell the luxury bags(symbolic goods) or cruise tour(experiential goods) and to launch their goods with own brand or licensed brand. The experimental groups were composed of women consumers who were familiar with consuming experiential goods and symbolic goods. Results from the experiment suggest that consumer's perceived risk on brands gives a negative impact on brand attitude. And congruence in goods types and licensed brand values leads to difference in the level of perceived risk. In experiential goods, brand licensing from famous and experiential brands can reduce perceived risk. But in symbolic goods, brand licensing effect which reduces the perceived risk is less effective than in experiential goods. This findings suggest that brand licensing may lower the level of consumer's perceived risk, but incongruity in goods type and brand value may result in strategic failure.

Additionally, the study investigated how the impact of message sidedness on the formation of information reliability and brand authenticity varies according to consumers' regulatory focus tendencies. Data were collected through online surveys targeting individuals from Generation MZ, utilizing a professional research firm. A total of 300 respondents (150 for one-sided scenarios and 150 for two-sided scenarios) were selected. The collected data were validated using SPSS and AMOS. The following results were obtained. First, message sidedness influenced information reliability and brand authenticity, both of which demonstrated positive effects on brand attitude as mediating factors. However, message sidedness did not directly affect brand attitude. Second, consumers with both promotion and prevention focus tendencies perceived higher information reliability in two-sided message scenarios, and the perception difference in information reliability based on message sidedness was more pronounced among consumers with a prevention focus. Additionally, consumers with a prevention focus did not show a significant difference in brand authenticity between one- and two-sided message scenarios, while consumers with a promotion focus demonstrated an increase in brand authenticity in two-sided message scenarios compared to one-sided ones.
