텅스텐 차폐체의 감마선 투과선량 측정 (Transmission Dose Measurement of Gamma-ray Using Tungsten Shield)

  • 본 연구는 Apron의 재질로 이용되고 있는 텅스텐 차폐체를 핵의학과에서 사용하는 선원의 종류와 차폐체의 두께, 선원부터 검출기 사이의 거리를 변화시켜 차폐체에 투과시킨 후 투과선량과 차폐율을 알아보고자 하였다. 실험을 위해서 선원과 차폐체와 검출기를 일직선으로 배치하고 높이 100 cm 지점에서 Inspector로 측정하였다. 그 결과 텅스텐에 차폐효과가 가장 높은 선원은 $^{201}Tl$ 선원으로 측정되었고, $^{123}I$ 선원이 $^{99m}Tc$ 선원보다 차폐효과가 높게 나타났다. 실험에 사용한 선원과 검출기 사이의 거리는 멀어질수록 투과선량은 작아졌고, 텅스텐 차폐체의 두께는 두꺼울수록 차폐율은 높게 측정되었다. 하지만 $^{131}I$$^{18}F$ 선원에서는 0.25 mmPb의 차폐체를 사용했을 경우 차폐체가 없을 경우 보다 차폐율이 감소하는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 $^{13}1I$$^{18}F$ 선원을 사용할 경우에는 방사선 차폐효과가 높은 텅스텐일지라도 선원의 종류에 따른 특성과 차폐체의 두께를 고려하여 사용하길 권장하고, 실험 결과를 참고하여 사용한다면 피폭 저 감화방안에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

동해 북동해역에서의 해수의 광학적 성질 (OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF SEA WATER IN THE JAPAN SEA)

  • 1976년 9월부터 10월 사이에 동해 북동해역 9개 관측점에서 투명도, 태양광선의 적색광(파장;$600\~620nm$)에 대한 수심별 수중조도와 태양고도 등을 조사하여 검토한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 본 조사해역의 평균투명도는 $19.8m(15\~23m)$로 나타났다. 2. 태양광선의 적색광에 대한 해수의 흡수계수는 $0.142\~0.323$(평균 0.232)였다. 3. 적색광에 대한 해수의 흡수계수 m와 투명도 D와의 관계는 m=4.93/D로 나타났다. 4. 적색강의 수중투과율은 수성 5m층에서 표면광의 $15\~34.2\%$(평균 $23.11\%$), 수신 10m층에서는 $3.04\~12\%$(평균 $6.49\%$)였고, 수심 20m층에서는 $0.113\~1.27\%$(평균 $0.698\%$)로 나타났다.

The association of follicular fluid volume with human oolemma stretchability during intracytoplasmic sperm injection

  • Objective: Oocyte degeneration often occurs after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and the risk factor is low-quality oocytes. The follicular fluid (FF) provides a crucial microenvironment for oocyte development. We investigated the relationships between the FF volume aspirated from individual follicles and oocyte retrieval, oocyte maturity, oolemma stretchability, fertilization, and development. Methods: This retrospective study included data obtained from 229 ICSI cycles. Ovarian stimulation was performed according to a gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist protocol. Each follicle was individually aspirated and divided into six groups according to FF volume ( < 1.0, 1.0 to < 2.0, 2.0 to < 3.0, 3.0 to < 4.0, 4.0 to < 5.0, and ${\geq}5.0mL$). Oolemma stretchability during ICSI was evaluated using a mechanical stimulus for oolemma penetration, that is, the stretchability was assessed by oolemma penetration with aspiration (high stretchability) or without aspiration (low stretchability). Results: Oocyte retrieval rates were significantly lower in the < 1.0 mL group than in the ${\geq}1.0mL$ groups (46.0% [86/187] vs. 67.5%-74.3% [172/255 to 124/167], respectively; p< 0.01). Low oolemma stretchability was significantly more common in the < 1.0 mL group than in the ${\geq}1.0mL$ groups during ICSI (22.0% [13/59] vs. 5.8%-9.4% [6/104 to 13/139], respectively; p= 0.018). There was a relationship between FF volume and oolemma stretchability. However, there were no significant differences in the rates of fertilization, cleavage, ${\geq}7$ cells at day 3, and blastocyst development among all groups. Conclusion: FF volume is potentially associated with the stretchability of metaphase II oolemma during ICSI. Regarding oolemma stretchability, ensuring a uniform follicular size during ovarian stimulation is crucial to obtain good-quality oocytes.

그래뉼 타입 활성탄 필터의 100 나노 미만 다분산 초미세먼지 표면흡착 제거 효율 연구 (Filtration Efficiency of Granular Activated Carbons to Polydisperse Ultrafine Particles through the Surface Adsoprtion)

  • Many commercial air purifiers currently have deployed granular activated carbon (GAC) filters for removing volatile organic compounds in the indoor air. GACs are generally used to remove gaseous contaminants in the air through adsorption by the inner surfaces of pores. In addition, airborne particles can be also filtered by the surface adsorption of the GACs, which can improve the life-time of the particulate filters. In this study, the filtration efficiency of GACs to ultrafine particles through surface adsorption was investigated at different volume flow rates by deploying a continuous particle filtration system. The polydisperse sodium chloride (NaCl) particles were generated by a set of an atomizer and a diffusion dryer, and then mixed with particle-free air at different volume flow rates. The penetration of ultrafine particles and pressure drop for each experimental condition were measured to figure out the effect of the volume flow rate on the surface adsoprtion of the GACs to particles, ~ 2 mm. The particle filtration efficiency of the GACs decreased as the volume flow rate increased from 4 to 14 lpm. However, the 5 times thicker GAC filter layer decreased the penetration of ultraparticles than a preious study. The filtration efficiency of the single granule was also higher than the previous result in the literature with smaller granule filter materials.

Penetrating behavior of target prawns (Sicyonia penicillata) contacting netting panels in an experimental water tunnel

  • Capture efficiencies of commercial shrimp trawls may improve if their designs took into better account behavioral responses of wild shrimp to approaching cod-end of the trawls. Here we report results of water tunnel-based experimental studies of responses of wild California target prawns to several different near-realistic netting configurations over a range of water velocities (0.3-0.7 m/s). Netting panels were oriented at parallel to water flows (FP) on the bottom of test section, vertical (VT) or diagonal sloping backward (DG), bottom to top. Behavioral responses were recorded by video camera and analyzed frame by frame. Measured responses included rates of penetrating through netting by behavioral features and tail-flip frequencies. Frequencies of prawn passing through the nets increased with flow speed for both orientations and were higher at given speeds for sloped nets. Other behavioral features (e.g., passage head-or tail-first) also varied significantly with water velocities and netting orientation. Interactions of penetrating rates between netting orientations and flow speeds also were significantly dependent, except for prawn size. Additional studies are needed of other shrimp species and at higher water velocities more similar to actual field operations using trawls to improve size selectivity.

배추좀나방과 파밤나방에 대한 flupyrazofos의 체벽 투과량 (Penetrations of flupyrazofos against Plutella xylostella(Lepidoptera :Yponomeutidae) and Spodoptera exigua(Lepidoptera : Noctuidae))

  • 배추좀나방과 파밤나방에 대한 flupyrazofos의 작용기작을 구명하기 위하여 한국화학연구소에서 분양을 받아 실내에서 19세대 누대 사육한 배추좀나방과 포장에서 채집하여 실내에서 인공사료를 이용하여 25세대 누대 사육한 파밤나방을 대상으로 $^{14}C$-flupyrazofos를 처리하여 $^{14}C$-flupyrazofos를 검출하기에 적합한 용매와 두종간의 체벽 투과량을 조사하였다. 배추좀나방과 파밤나방 충체에 있는 $^{14}C$-flupyrazofos의 각 용매별 검출율은 hexane과 ethyl-acetate보다 acetone을 사용할 때 가장 높았다. flupyrazofos의 반수침투시간($PT_{50}$)은 배추좀나방에서는 0.731 시간(44분)이었고, 파밤나방에서는 0.504시간(30분)으로 나타나 배추좀나방보다 파밤나방에서 침투시간이 다소 빨랐고, 배설량도 배추좀나방보다 파밤나방에서 많았으며 배설되는 시간도 빨랐다.

Use of a Xanthine-Xanthine Oxidase System on In Vitro Maturation and Fertilization in Pig

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of catalase using xanthine (X) - xanthine oxidase (XO) system on in vitro maturation and fertilization in pig. When follicular oocytes were cultured in maturation medium with X and/or XO, the maturation rates were not significantly different between in medium with and without catalase despite of different culture periods. However, significantly (P<0.05) higher maturation rates were obrained in culture with X-XO system. The rates of degenerated oocytes were increased with culture periods prolonged, and were significantly (P<0.05) higher in medium without than with catalase at 120 h of culture. On the other hand, the parthenogenetic oocytes were observed with high proportions at 72 h of culture, hut were not different in medium with and without catalase at various times of culture. In another experiment, the frozen-thawed boar spermatozoa treated with X-XO system for in vitro fertilization. The penetration rates were higher in medium with that than without catalase during the in vitro fertilization with, none (P<0.05), XO and X+XO. On the other hand, when sperm were treated with none, X, XO and X+XO, lipid peroxidation were higher in medium without that than with catalase. However, the changes in sperm penetration and lipid peroxidation showed opposite patterns. The sperm suspensions were also treated with X and/or XO for assay of sulfhydryl (-SH) group content. Under the above all conditions, sperm-SH group were higher detected In medium with that than without catalase. The activity of sperm binding to zona pellucida was also evaluated through binding to salt-stored porcine oocytes. In control group, sperm binding to zona pellucida were higher than in medium with X, XO and X+XO groups. No significant differences, however, were observed between medium with and without catalase. In conclusion, the exposure of follicular oocytes and spermatozoa to X-XO system may be caused stimulating in vitro maturation and fertilization in pig.   • Objective s: To assess the fertilizing capacity using sperm penetration assay (SPA) to predict the outcome of the in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) outcome. Materials and Methods: Semen samples were provided by 129 patients undergoing IVF. We attempted to correlate the extent of sperm penetration under enhanced SPA protocol with the results of fertilization, cleavage, preimplantation embryo development, and pregnancy. Results: Univariate analysis demonstrated a statistically significant correlation between fertilizing capacity and motility, kinetics, fertilization, cleavage and embryo development, and pregnancy rate. By logistic regression analysis, fertilizing capacity was found to be the only variable that was statistically significant with respect to pregnancy rate. Fertilizing capacity, cleavage rate and pregnant rate were significantly higher in pregnant group. However, the fertilization rates was comparable with both group. Conclusions: Lower fertilizing capacity could denote a poorer prognosis for establishing a pregnancy, even after satisfactory fertilization rate is achieved.

  • The aim of the study was to investigate the ability of sperm derived from the epididymis in regard to sperm motility, sperm penetration to oocyte and subsequent development of the embryo. Frozen-thawed sperm from epididymis showed similar percentage of motile sperm (VSL ${\geq}25{\mu}m/sec$) as compared to that of commercial sperm (control). Sperm penetration of frozen-thawed epididymal and commercial sperm was not significantly different. Moreover, cleavage and blastocyst rates were similar in both epididymal and control. Sperm derived from the epididymis also showed fertilizability and subsequent embryonic development.

분사압력에 따른 CRDI 분사계의 분무특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the spray characteristics of CRDI system with injection pressure)

  • Injection rate, injection quantity and injection timing of fuel are controlled precisely by electric control in CRDI system. Particularly, injection rate being influenced with injection pressure affects to spray characteristics and fuel-air ratio, so it is a very important factor in diesel combustion. In this study, injection rates in accordance with injection pressure at a constant ambient pressure were measured with Zeuch's method. Under the same condition, non-evaporating spray images were taken with a high speed camera and analyzed carefully with Adobe Photoshop CS3. Macroscopic spray characteristics and breakup processes in the spray could be found from the examined and analyzed data. Injection start time and injection period were practically affected with injection pressure. Also, initial injection rate, spray penetration, spray angle and breakup of high density droplets region in the spray were affected with injection pressure. The results and techniques of spray visualization and injection rate measurement in this study would be practically effective to study a high pressure diesel spray for common rail direct injection system.
