Objectives: The objective of this study was to provide clinical evidence to support the use of a herbal medicine (Cheonwangbosim-Dan/Tianwangbuxin-Pellet (TWBXP)) for insomnia. Methods: Randomized controlled trials that verified effects of Herbal Medicine (Cheonwangbosim-Dan, Tianwangbuxin-Pellet) treating primary insomnia were carried out. A literature search of English, Chinese, Korean databases was also performed. The selected literature were assessed by Risk of Bias (RoB). Results: The total number of selected trials was 13 RCTs. Among the 13 RCTs, 10 were meta-analyzed. The Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders-3 (CCMD-3) was frequently used as the diagnostic criteria for interventions during the analysis of the use of herbal medicine (Cheonwangbosim-Dan/Tianwangbuxin-Pellet) for management of primary insomnia. As for outcome measurement, the effective rate was used. From the Meta-analysis of the studies, it was established that the insomnia cure effective rate in the TWBXP group was higher than that in the Western Medicine (WM) group (RR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.07 to 1.24, p<0.0001, $I^2=33%$). Also, the effective rate in the TWBXP+ACU group was significantly different compared to the WM group (RR: 1.32, 95% CI: 1.13 to 1.54, p=0.0004, $I^2=0%$). The quality of the selected RCTs was low. Conclusions: Herbal medicine (Cheonwangbosim-Dan/Tianwangbuxin-Pellet) is effective for treating primary insomnia. It is worth noting that this studies were of relatively poor quality. The sample sizes were also small. Therefore, further investigations into the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia are warranted.

This study was conducted to evaluate the quality characteristics (proximate composition, fatty acids, amino acids, sensory and textural properties) of whole body and dorsal muscle of olive flounders fed extruded pellets (EP) compared to raw fish-based moist pellets (MP). The olive flounders in this study were reared from 300 g to 1000 g for 7 months by feeding either EP or MP. The fatty acids and total amino acids of the whole body and dorsal muscle of the fish were similar among both groups. The major fatty acids in whole body and dorsal muscle werepalmitic acid and oleic acid. Finally, no significant differences were observed between groups for sensory and textural properties of the muscle. These results suggest that EP could be developed to replace MP without adverse effects on olive flounder quality.

DUPIC powder and pellets were successfully fabricated in accordance with the quality assurance program described in the Quality Assurance Manual for DUPIC fuel fabrication, which was developed on the basis of the CAN3-Z299.2-85 standard. This manual describes the quality management system applicable to the activities performed for DUPIC fuel fabrication. It covers the work processes, policies and procedures used for planning, executing, and verifying the work carried out for DUPIC fuel fabrication. It is important that a Quality Program is in place before the fabrication of the fuel for irradiation testing. In order to qualify the DUPIC pellet manufacturing processes, 3 series of experiments for the pre-qualification and 3 series for the qualification were performed. In these experiments, the optimum process conditions were established. Then, under the control of the QA program, 8 series of production runs were performed to make the qualified DUPIC pellets in a batch size of 1 kg. In these production runs, DUPIC fuel pellets satisfying the standard CANDU fuel pellet specifications could be successfully produced.
Purpose: This study attempted to verify the effect of Koryo hand therapy on menstrual cramps and dysmenorrhea among college students. Method: This study performed the quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group and the pre and post-test design from August 28 to November 4, 2002. The subjects of this experimental study consisted of 64 college students in the nursing college of K University in D city and K college students in K city, who had more than 5.0 GRS score of menstrual cramps. Among them, 16 people belonged to the experimental group A by using Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy, 16 to the experimental group B by using Seo Am pellet therapy, 16 to the experimental group C by using combination of Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy and Seo Am pellet therapy and 16 to the control group. Three different kinds of methods were used three times per week for $5{\sim}6$ weeks(a total of $15{\sim}18$ times) interventions were completed. For the experimental group, A Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy was given for 40 minutes per each treatment; for the experimental group, B Seo Am pellet therapy was given for 4 hours: for the experimental group, C combination of Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy and Seo Am pellet therapy was given. To measure menstrual cramps, the graphic rating scale (GRS) was used and to measure dysmenorrheal, a dysmenorrhea scale (15 contents) was used, which was modified from Han &Hur's scale (13 contents). Cronbach's was 0.78 in the pre-test, 0.83 in the first post-test, 0.89 in the following post-test. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, 2 test, repeated measures ANOVA, time contrast test and Sheffe test with the SPSS/Win 11.0 program. Results: ? The first hypothesis, 'Among the experimental group A by using Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy, the experimental group B by using Seo Am pellet therapy and the experimental group C by using combination of Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy and Seo Am pellet therapy will have different graphic rating scores of menstrual cramps', was supported (F=6.77, p=0.000, Interaction: p=0.000). ? The second hypothesis, 'Among the experimental group A by using Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy, the experimental group B by using Seo Am pellet therapy, the experimental group C by using combination of Ceramic Seo Am moxa therapy and Seo Am pellet therapy and the control group will have a significantly different level of dysmenorrhea', was supported (F=6.88, p=0.000, Interaction: p=0.000). From the above results, it can be an effective nursing intervention to give Koryo hand therapy to college students who have menstrual cramps and dysmenorrhea. Conclusion: These findings indicate that Koryo hand therapy could be applied to improve the quality of life and to prevent drug misuse among college students who are physically, mentally and psychologically suffering from menstrual cramps and dysmenorrhea. Furthermore, Koryo hand therapy could be developed as an effective Korean alternative and complementary care in the future. and it could also provide a guideline to apply Koryo hand therapy to other pain and difficulties.
The present study investigated the effects of feed form and distiller's dried grain with solubles (DDGS) on meat quality and fatty acids profile of broiler chickens. A total of 720 broilers (Ross 308; average BW [body weight] $541{\pm}5.7g$) were randomly allotted to six treatments. Birds were fed three different feed forms (mash; SP, simple pellet; EP, expanded pellet) and DDGS (0 or $200g\;kg^{-1}$) in a $3{\times}2$ factorial arrangement. The addition of DDGS and EP to the diet resulted in increased shear force of breast meat. Moreover, DDGS inclusion in the diet reduced the concentration of stearic acid and behenic acid in thigh meat. Pelleting (SP and EP) of the diets increased palmitic acid content in the thigh, whereas the linolenic acid content decreased. The breast mass was higher with EP and SP diets than with the mash diet. Feed processing led to increased pectoralis muscle and drum mass compared to mash-fed chickens. In conclusion, our results demonstrated that EP decreased thigh linolenic acid and meat shear force. In addition, DDGS supplementation in broiler hampers meat quality by increasing the shear force.

One type of biomass that has promising potential for bio pellet production is spent coffee grounds (SCGs). However, previous studies have shown that SCGs in bio pellets cause a lot of smoke. Therefore, they need to be mixed with a material that has a higher calorific value to produce better quality pellets. One material that can be used is pine wood because it has a natural resin content that can increase the calorific value. The aim of this study was to examine the quality of bio pellets produced with SCGs and pine wood charcoal at different particle sizes. The charcoal was ground using either a hammer mill (HM) or a ball mill (BM). Pine wood charcoal was mixed with SCGs at ratios of SCGs to pine wood charcoal of 4:6 and 6:4 by weight, respectively, and the adhesive used a tapioca with a composition ratio 5% of the raw material. The bio pellets were produced using a manual pellet press. The quality of the bio pellets was assessed based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 8021-2014, and the physical observations include flame length, burning rate, and compressive strength. The average water content, ash content, and calorific value of the bio pellets were in accordance with SNI 8021-2014, but the density and ash content values were below the standard values. The BM variation of bio pellets had a higher compressive strength than the HM variation, and the 4:6 BM variation had the longest burning time compared with 4:6 HM.
This study evaluated the quality characteristics of yukwa pellets and yukwa bases on the ratio of soju addition (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% v/v). Yukwa base with 50% ratio of soju addition displayed the highest diameter, volume and specific volume. The yukwa base with 75% ratio of soju addition displayed the longest in length. The weight of yukwa base increased as the ratio of soju increased. Lightness increased in yukwa pellet and yukwa base as the ratio of soju increased. Lightness of yukwa base was higher than yukwa pellet, but yellowness and redness of yukwa base were lower than yukwa pellet. Air cell size of yukwa base decreased as the ratio of soju increased. The compression and cutting force of yukwa base with 50% ratio of soju addition were lowest, while yukwa base with 0% soju was highest. In the sensory evaluation, preference of color increased as the ratio of soju addition increased. Yukwa base with 50% ratio of soju addition was the highest in internal compactness, mouth-feel, and overall preference. The results show that a soju ratio of 50-75% addition for total liquid is useful in the production of high quality yukwa base.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical effect of Moxa-Pellet treatment for nasal symptoms and quality of life(QOL) in patients with allergic rhinitis. Methods: Subjects were voluntarily recruited through newspaper and internet advertisement. In this randomized, single blind and controlled study, experimental group (n=19) received real Moxa-Pellet treatment and control group(n=20) received sham Moxa-Pellet treatment for 3 weeks. Acupuncture points used were $LI_4$, $ST_{36}$, $LU_7$, $GV_{14}$ and $GB_{20}$. Patient's nasal symptoms and QOL were assessed before and after 3 weeks treatment by the Nasal Symptom Scores(NSS) and the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey(SF-36). Results : The results were as follows; 1. Among items of NSS, Sneezing' Rhinorrhea' Itching scores and Total Nasal Symptom Scores(TNSS) were significantly improved in experimental group after 3 weeks Moxa- Pellet treatment(p<0.05). In control group, there was no significant difference in all items except Headache item of NSS. 2. Among 8 domains of SF- 36, experimental group showed significant difference in Role-Emotional(RE), Mental Health(MH) and Bodily Pain(Bp) after 3 weeks Moxa- Pellet treatment(p<0.05). Control group showed no significant difference in all domains except one domain(Role limitation-physical). Conclusions: These results suggest that Moxa-Pellet treatment can be applicable to improve nasal symptoms and QOL in the patients with allergic rhinitis. Further long tenn studies on the Moxa-Pellets treatment's sustaining power and safety is needed.
In this study, the availability of cow manure as raw material for solid fuel production was investigated. Since the water content of the cow manure was too high, it was dewatered using a laboratory hydraulic compressure ($11.3kg/cm^2$). The moisture content of the cow manure decreased from 82.01% to 73.36 wt.%. The dewatered cow manure was homogenized by the experimental apparatus and then put into the rotating cylindrical apparatus. From the consecutive processes, the cow ball-shaped pellet which size ranged from 3.0 to 25.0 mm was produced. The major factor for making palletized fuel from cow manure was the moisture content. Based on the experimental data, the moisture content of cow manure for pelletizing cow manure was identified as 65~75 wt.%. When the moisture content of the cow manure was lower than 30 wt.%, the diameter of the pellets maded from cow manure was smaller than 3 mm. On the other hand, when the water content of the cow manure was higher than 75 wt/%, the diameter of the processed pellets tended to be larger than 25 mm. The characteristics of the processed cow manure pellets was analyzed to be in accordance with the livestock solid fuel quality standard. The pyrolysis characteristic of the pellet was analyzed by raising the heating temperature of the experimental equipment from 200 to $900^{\circ}C$. The mass change between of 20 and $130^{\circ}C$ corresponds to the amount of moisture contained in the cow manure. The amount of moisture was about 15% of the total weight of cow manure samples. The cow manure pellet was thermally stable up to $280^{\circ}C$. It can be interpreted that combustion of cow manure pellet does not occur until the surface temperature reaches $280^{\circ}C$. The mass change of pellet between of 280 and $450^{\circ}C$ was considered to be due to the vaporization of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) present in the cow manure pellet. The maximum production of VOCs was showed near $330^{\circ}C$.
To investigate the effect of dietary mugwort pellet on the growing performance and meat quality barrow (T1) and boar (T2) were alloted into six treatments : 1) commercial feed, 2) T1-1 and T2-1 (commercial feed supplemented with 3.0% mugwort pellet), 3) T1-2 and T2-2 (commercial feed supplemented with 5.0% mugwort pellet). They were fed experimental diets for 60 days before slaughtered. Meat samples were taken in wrap package and stored at 4$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$. Daily gain in both groups (T1 and T2) were higher than those of the control (p<0.05). Feed conversion tended to be lower in barrow group than boar group and tended to be decreased according to supplementation of mugwort pelleted diet in barrow group. In both barrow and boar groups, proximate compositions of pork were not sigificantly different, except for crude fat. Crude fat content was tended to be low in barrow when fed mugwort pelleted diet. Shear force value and sensory properties were siginificantly higher in barrow group than in boar group (p<0.05) and these results were also seemed due to great fed mugwort pelleted aiet(p<0.05). In the barrow group, values of tenderness and flavor were the highest in pigs fed diet supplemented with 3.0% mugwort. The catechin content of pork tended to be higher in boar group than in barrow group and catechin tended to increase with supplementation of mugwort in the diet.
