In recent years, a number of long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridges have been constructed to the advantages of relatively low cost construction and the many tourists visiting. However, most of the pedestrian bridges are located in parks or sightseeing areas, so they are conducted without proper review and design process. It is necessary to review the aerodynamic stability of the long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, and it should be designed in detail from various points of view rather than the road bridge. In this study, we investigated the wind characteristics of the cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, and the empirical equations for the relationship between the main span length and the fundamental natural frequencies are presented for future use. In addition, the flutter wind speed limit of the flat plate deck pedestrian bridge calculated using the Selberg's equation is also presented. The final aerodynamic bridge section which satisfied the aerodynamic stability was found from open grating method. The proposed method can be used for long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridge in the future.

Glass fiber reinforced composite decks have high-strength, light-weight and high durability. The composite decks having vertical snap-fit connections are designed for pedestrian bridges and their structural behavior are studied. Especially in this paper, local behavior of the developed composite deck for pedestrian bridge is verified by both analysis and experiment.

A pedestrian UHPC cable-stayed bridge(Super Bridge I) of the KICT was completed as a test bed. A long-term monitoring system has been installed on the UHPC bridge in order to acquire all types of long-term data such as strain, acceleration, tension force, wind direction and speed, temperature, etc. This system will provide valuable database enabling to assess the long-term behavior of the UHPC pedestrian hybrid cable-stayed bridge. This database will be exploited for the evaluation of the mechanical characteristics and serviceability of the UHPC members so as to estimate the behavioral features of long-span hybrid cable stayed bridges.
This research is an analysis of the working plan, to build a pedestrian bridge for Eunpa amusement park in Kunsan, South Korea. This research takes into consideration the need of harmony with the surrounding area as well as the assessment of the activity of people on the pedestrian bridge. This research finds that it is possible for an efficient method to understand the interaction between humans and movement in this space. Another research objective is to understand human interaction and the relationship with the local scenery through a study of the scale and form of the bridge, the form of the main tower, and various subsidiary facilities in the space studied too. This research is to be an attempt to access a new way to approach bridge design and with the hope for the revitalization of the site.
A novel approach is presented to improve dynamic responses of a pedestrian bridge by utilizing decorative wind chimes. Through wind tunnel tests, it was verified that wind chimes can provide stabilization effects against flutter instability, especially at positive or negative wind angles of attack. At zero degrees of angle of attack, the wind chimes can change the flutter pattern from rapid divergence to gradual divergence. The decorative wind chimes can also provide damping effects to suppress the lateral sway motion of the bridge caused by pedestrian footfalls and wind forces. For this purpose, the swing frequency of the wind chimes should be about the same as the structural frequency, which can be achieved by adjusting the swing length of the wind chimes. The mass and the swing damping level are other two important and mutually interactive parameters in addition to the swing length. In general, 3% to 5% swing damping is necessary to achieve favorite results. In the study case, the equivalent damping level of the entire system can be increased from originally assumed 1% up to 5% by using optimized wind chimes.
An analytical method is proposed for the evaluation of the static response of a prestresse-dribbon concrete pedestrian bridge, which may also be applied for the roofing of large areas. On the basis of an established analogy with a suspension bridge system, a procedure is presented for the prestresse-dribbon direct analysis, leading to the introduction of two dimensionless parameters as governing factors of the design, namely the thinness and the prestressing steel ratio. The exposed procedure, applied by a simple computer program, allows a quick evaluation of the response and permits the investigation of the influence of the aforementioned parameters on it, by means of comprehensive diagrams. The presented diagrams may be directly used for the preliminary design of a pedestrian bridge of this type, for the whole practical range of span lengths. A design example is also included, showing the applicability of the proposed procedure.

This paper describes the design and construction of main Arch bridge using Ultra-high performance concrete, Ductal in the Sunyudo pedestrian bridge project. Ductal is a new family of cementing materials with remarkable properties. Its mechanical characteristics reach unique values, with compressive strength in industrial use of 180 to 230 MPa and bending tensile strength of 50 to 80 MPa. By the use of Ductal, main Arch bridge crossing the Han-river is designed to the span 120m-long with optimized $\pi$ shape section.

In this paper, we present the analysis results on the vibration serviceability of a pedestrian bridge considering the effect of pedestrian moving mass inertia. Using dynamic finite element analysis, we considered different walking scenarios, including pedestrian density, walking speed, random walking, and synchronized walking, to analyze the acceleration response of a 40m long single-span bridge with a steel composite box cross section. We showed that the equivalent fixed mass analysis method did not significantly differ from the moving mass analysis in the random walk scenario and a wider frequency excitation band may be useful to consider when evaluating vibration serviceability in a random walk scenario.

This paper describes a vibration control by using tuned mass damper(i.e., TMD) for an existing footbridge. The footbridge is the simple steel box girder bridge with main span length of 47.7m. This bridge has light weight, low damping and the 1st bending frequency of 1.84㎐. Its frequency is close to a walking cycle, which is 2㎐. Therefore the uncomfortable resonant vibrations due to a pedestrian walking have occurred frequently. The vibration control by means of TMD for suppressing the pedestrian induced vibration was conducted. Taking into account economical benefits and the easiness of installation, a compact TMD installed within a handrail was designed. From field tests of the TMD, it was confirmed that the structural damping of the bridge via. the compact TMD was enhanced by 13 times and the resonant vibration due to pedestrian walking was suppressed.
