  • Excessive occlusal wear causes loss of tooth structure, occlusal plane disharmony, impaired function and esthetic problems. Although the decrease of occlusal vertical dimension may be compensated by the growth of alveolar bone and tooth eruption, minimal increase of occlusal vertical dimension may be required for esthetics and retention of prosthesis. In this case, a 44-year-old male patient visited Seoul National University Dental Hospital with chief complaint of severe tooth wear and shade disharmony. Based on assessment of diagnostic wax-up, 3 mm increase of occlusal vertical dimension was determined. Removable occlusal splint and interim prosthesis was used to ascertain patient's comfort and adaptation. After the adaptation period, definitive prosthesis fabricated with full-contour monolithic zirconia were delivered and the patient was recommended to wear a nightguard device for prosthesis protection. This report presents a case of full mouth rehabilitation with the elevation of patient's occlusal vertical height, resulting in satisfactory esthetics and functions.

We treated the patient using Korean medicine treatment including Motion-Style-Acupuncture-Treatment, pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, and herbal medicine during 30 days. Numerical rating scale (NRS), EuroQol five dimension (EQ-5D) index, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Modified Barthel Index (MBI), and the changes of symptoms were measured for assessment. After 30 days inpatient treatment, NRS decreased from 4 to 2, EQ-5D index, ODI, MBI, and the symptoms of the patient also were improved. In conclusion, this case shows Korean medicine treatment might be an effective treatment for gait disorder Patient with MOG-associated disorder.

  • This work has performed to find what activities of daily living are required for the intensive interests when inpatient elderly more than 3 months has been supported and convalescent care, where the inpatient elderly were judged by the inpatient assessment report in the time of December, 2013. According to the estimation with logistic function of the relationship between the state of decision making recognition technology and the Activities of Daily Living(ADL), the intensive cares for the elderly are required in the parameters of 'Having meal' and 'transferring sitting' when they are severed and convalescently cared as the degree of functional independence for ADL are severly proceeded. In addition, the senescence and disease the activities except 'Having meal' and 'transferring sitting' seem to be influenced by the decline of body function more than the state of decision making recognition technology for daily living.

Objectives: The object is change of lumbar lordotic angle of a 40 years old woman who had low back pain with Lumbar hyperlordosis, In conservative treatment. Method: In conservative treatment, We added taping therapy(mechanical correction taping of Kinesio Taping) about Lumbar Lordosis. Conclusion: We experienced a 40 years old woman who had love pack pain with Lumbar hyperlordosis. In conservative treatment, Her pain was Improved by additional taping therapy In company with decrease of Lumbar Lordosis. 1. abnormal spinal curvature, specially lumbar hyperlordosis act on induction & perpetuation agent for low back pain 2. In a patient had low back pain with lumbar hyperlordosis, change of lumbar lordotic angle is of utility value for the effect of treatment and assessment of prognosis. 3. pain control is more relative with change of lumbosacral angle than lumbar lordotic angle, in patient had low back pain with lumbar hyperlordosis. 4. mechanical taping therapy with elastic adhesive tape is effective for patient had low back pain with lumbar hyperlordosis

  • Objective : The reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ- 9) was examined in Korean patients with depressive symptoms. Methods : Eighty six outpatients diagnosed as major depressive disorder or depressive episode of bipolar I disorder according to the DSM-IV criteria were assessed with the PHQ-9, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology Self Report (QIDS-SR), and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Results : The Cronbach's alpha coefficient from the PHQ-9 was 0.81. And the correlations of each item with the total score were statistically significant (r=0.28-0.70, p<0.01). The test-retest correlation coefficient (r=0.89, p<0.01) was relatively high and correlations of the PHQ-9 with the HDRS, QIDS-SR and CES-D were 0.70, 0.81, and 0.81 respectively. Conclusion : These results demonstrated that the Korean version of PHQ-9 could be a reliable and valid tool for the screening and assessment of depressive patients. The Korean version of PHQ-9 will be a useful tool for screening depressive symptoms in Korea.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to estimate the appropriate nurse staffing ratio in intensive care units (ICUs) by measuring nursing workload based on patient's severity and needs, using the Korean Patient Classification System for critical care nurses. Methods: The data were collected from January 18 to February 29, 2016 using a standardized checklist by observation or self-report. During the study period, 723 patients were included to be categorized from I to IV using the patient classification system. Measurement of total nursing workload on a shift was calculated in terms of hours based on the time and motion method by using tools for surveying nursing activities. The nursing activities were categorized as direct nursing care, indirect nursing care, and personal time. Total of 127 cases were included in measuring direct nursing time and 18 nurses participated in measuring indirect and personal time. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Two patients were classified into Class I (11.1%), 5 into Class II (27.8%), 9 into Class III (50%), and two into Class IV (11.1%). The amount of direct nursing care required for Class IV (513.7 min) was significantly more than that required for Class I (135.4 min). Direct and indirect nursing care was provided more often during the day shift as compared to the evening or night shifts. These findings provided the rationale for determining the appropriate ratio for nursing staff per shift based on the nursing workload in each shift. Conclusions: An appropriate ratio of nurse staffing should be ensured in ICUs to re-arrange the workload of nurses to help them provide essential direct care for patients.

  • Objective : Ankylosing spondylitic is a chronic inflammatory disease which most frequently the sacro-iliac joints of young men and known as rare disease. There was no clinical report on functional assessment of ankylosing spondylitis. In order to evaluate the effect of clinical treatment, it was necessary to apply valuable and useful of assessment. Methods : We evaluate 1 cases of diagnosed patient with askylosing spondylitis by AIMS2, M-HAQ, K-HAQ, BASFI, and BASDAI after a series of herbal acupuncture treatment.(Solution of herbal acupuncture is made of vaporizing extraction method from the prescription Sineumheo 1.) Results : Herbal acupuncture had relieved pain and morning stiffness successfully and recovered ankylosing spondylitis functionally. Conclusion : 1. Herbal acupuncture had relieved pain and morning stiffness of ankylosing spondylitis. 2. AIMS2 was not useful to evaluate ankylosing spondylitis because of long evaluation time and low specificity. 3. Although there is no translation version of them, BASFI, and BASDAI are clinically useful of assessment, because of short evaluation time and high specificity. 4. K-HAQ with M-HAQ is useful to evaluate the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis because of snort evaluation time and high specificity.
